Endless Ocean: Survival Begins with a Dugout Canoe
Chapter 588 - 542: Fleeting Opportunity"Hm?"
Bertutan and the other two new gods were traveling through the starry sky when he suddenly felt his body seize up.
A notification came from his Divine Country, the Civilization Stele Forest. Within the Star Sea, another ancient, minuscule civilization of profound influence had vanished. Bertutan received this message, but he couldn’t perceive which specific civilization had disappeared.
The notification contained three key elements.
First, the vanished civilization had profound influence.
This meant the civilization had at least one Pillar Stone-level Nirvana Powerhouse. And for a civilization guarded by a Pillar Stone to fall, it usually meant the Pillar Stone themselves had perished.
Second, the vanished civilization was a minor one.
This meant it comprised few living beings, not even enough to form a proper race—at most 100 individuals, perhaps even fewer.
Third, the vanished civilization was ancient.
This meant it had existed for a very long time—long enough to be called ancient, with a history of at least a hundred thousand years.
A civilization possessing all three of these traits was extremely rare in the Star Sea. The Cosmic Country powers could be ruled out immediately. ’Could it be a reclusive civilization, or one existing in some Secret Realm?’ Bertutan wondered. ’No, that speculation doesn’t quite fit with "profound influence."’
...
What made Bertutan even more vigilant was that two ancient civilizations had now fallen in just a few short days.
His brow furrowed.
He smelled the scent of danger.
Even his Divine Country, the Civilization Stele Forest, couldn’t pinpoint which branch the fallen civilization belonged to. With civilization as his subject of study, Bertutan’s authority was primarily focused on the "Enlightenment of Civilization." The "Fall of Civilization" was a different domain entirely; there was little he could do in that regard.
He shared the information he had received with Amonev and Uncle Tian.
Perhaps he could get a different perspective.
Amonev, as always, maintained her secretive silence.
It was her defining trait.
The Friend of the Secret had to live up to her name. Bertutan was already used to this, and of course, it also meant she had no new discoveries to report for now.
Creator Uncle Tian, however, let out a sigh and said his [Stillness] hadn’t sensed a thing.
"Heh, drastic changes have been happening in the Star Sea lately. Perhaps this universe has truly reached a stage of destruction and rebirth. In that regard, Candela can surely obtain revelations and guidance from fate. A pity he has left us to pursue his own personal destiny... Who knows what he’s found?"
"Who knows?"
Uncle Tian was slightly displeased by this.
"Perhaps he’s found the legacy and treasures left behind by the gods in this Star Domain and doesn’t want us interfering."
’Sure, the Time Giant’s fate-aspected powers and skills are bizarre, and his time powers are equally hard to counter,’ he thought. ’But whether it’s fate or time, their ultimate end is dead silence. The Time Giant claims to be the strongest, but I, who have mastered [Stillness], am not a step behind him!’
’Besides, unlike that big oaf who’s too proud to use external objects or ultimate treasures and just sits alone on his Gold and Silver Island, I wield the authority of "Creation" and have the entire Dream Core Kingdom behind me! In that respect, my wisdom far surpasses his!’
The topic didn’t extend any further.
Bertutan glanced around the planet they were on.
"This is Planet Yelun. We’re approaching the very core of the Cosmic Country. In just over two days, we will reach the Primordial Star."
"Heh heh,"
"The new will of the Cosmic Country deserves a true enlightenment."
...
...
...
"You’re saying you want to make a move on Bertutan and Herakrode, and you hope we will honor our previous promise and provide the necessary assistance?"
The Star Lamp was already lit.
The voice that came from within the hazy light was, as expected, filled with disbelief.
???
Ali found this utterly inconceivable.
’Wait a minute, little brother.’
’You barely managed to kill Huang Ji by leveraging the uniqueness of the Primordial Star and your authority as the Heir of the Gods. That doesn’t mean you actually possess the power to slay a god. Maybe you just got lucky. And while there’s no denying that luck is a part of strength, if you let it go to your head, you could easily fall into a mire with no chance of recovery.’
’As expected, a kid in his twenties is still not rational enough.’
’Being full of vigor is an advantage.’
’But it’s also a disadvantage.’
Still, Ali could understand. He was just a young man in his twenties, after all; it was only natural for him to be bursting with confidence. At his age, she had just been trailing after her older sister, catching starlight to make clothes that were gorgeous but utterly useless.
Ali felt that although she and Shi Ming could no longer establish a master-student relationship, it was necessary to offer this young man some guidance on his path. ’Arrogance is the tombstone of the strong. In the Star Sea, one must always maintain a sense of awe. Even beings like gods cannot escape their fall, let alone a Nirvana-level fledgling who’s wet behind the ears?’
"I admit, your strength far exceeds our imagination. Your luck, too."
"But luck isn’t everything. Bertutan and Herakrode are two powerful new gods. Even if my sister were to make a complete break with them, disregard the future, and help you without reservation, it would only create a 2v2 situation. We wouldn’t be guaranteed to win, let alone kill them!"
"And if Candela were to return during that time... the chance to execute the usurpers would vanish forever. And that is a high-probability event. The favorite of fate would absolutely not miss such a major affair. Such is the wonder and tyranny of fate."
Losing the chance to execute the usurpers forever was the one result Ali and Amonev could not accept.
"You’re right. But what if the facts prove that the perfect moment has already arrived?" Shi Ming asked.
"If the facts prove the perfect moment has arrived, then my sister will certainly seize it. It’s just that in the past one hundred and twenty thousand years, not even a slightly better opportunity has ever presented itself."
The ethereal voice replied once more.
Shi Ming thought for a moment.
"My thoughts align with yours. The First Civilization Cosmic Country is a starry sky where miracles exist. In most cases, opportunities are fleeting. Only collaborators who are always prepared can grasp and exploit them the instant they appear."
Ali seemed to understand Shi Ming’s reminder.
She was silent for a long time.
Just as Shi Ming was growing impatient, a line of text came from the other side of the Star Lamp.
"I will inform my sister."
"We will also keep a constant watch for any fleeting opportunities."
"But you also need to understand that sometimes, a so-called opportunity might be a trap set by the enemy. If you pounce the moment you see your prey, you might overlook the real dagger at your back."
