ENERGI: THE PRIMORDIAL CONDUIT[OP MC, APOCALYPSE, SURVIVAL, AND LITRPG]
CHAPTER 108: SLURP!Almost as if in silent agreement, no one interrupted the little girl's enjoyment.
Outside, fear was brewing among the survivors, the Principal and Claire working hard to quell their worries, as having five of their members killed within the span of a few days...not by monsters, but by the sibling duo...had made them restless.
Iris met up with Daniel, words being exchanged behind closed doors.
Yet, within the room, a rare peace lingered, even if it didn't mirror what was going on in their hearts.
Kael quietly made a decision.
It seemed this apocalypse was trying to change them in ways he could not even begin to comprehend.
But that didn't matter.
He would simply adapt.
- Sluurp!
Who would have thought the first person to ask a question would be the culprit herself?
"What were you doing outside the school?" Rose asked after savoring a sip.
Kael lingered for a moment, confused by the sudden question, but it wasn't long before realization dawned on him.
Thinking of what he had been doing outside, Kael couldn't help but feel anxious.
'Had she seen me? But I didn't feel her senses!'
Once again, the fact that his sister was now far more powerful than he currently was quietly settled in Kael's mind.
A long pause passed before he responded concisely.
"I was looking for ways to grow stronger."
Rose's sipping didn't stop for even a moment, the little girl quietly nodding in acceptance.
Kael sighed in relief when he saw this.
Taking advantage of the situation, he asked a question of his own.
"Your injury... did it come from your trial?"
Unwilling to directly ask questions pertaining to her trial, Kael could only phrase it this way, as he didn't want to put her in harm's way just when she was recovering.
Rose took another long sip, the carton crumpling slightly in her grip.
"I want another one," she said as she tossed the empty carton aside.
Kael didn't mind and simply bought another drink while waiting for her answer.
After taking another sip, Rose shook her head before pointing upward.
"No. I was injured by that being above us."
The expressions of everyone in the room suddenly changed upon hearing her words.
As for Kael, his brows furrowed into a frown.
"What do you mean? Had you not..." He paused, unwilling to mention what had happened, before deciding to skip that part altogether. "...weren't you already injured the moment you reappeared?"
"Hmm." The little girl shook her head. "When I came out, I spread my perception outward, which was also how I saw your... weird actions outside."
Kael's lips twitched when he heard her words, but when he realized what she meant, a chill couldn't help but run down his spine.
"So, you had been attacked by..."
He was interrupted by another raised hand.
This time, Kael didn't react immediately.
His frown gradually relaxed into a placid expression, his face becoming unreadable.
A few seconds that felt much longer passed before another chocolate drink appeared in his hand, which he silently handed over.
Rose took another long sip, a reveling look appearing on her slightly-chubby face.
She smacked her lips once before continuing.
"I was injured by its mind."
Grave expressions surfaced around the room.
The thought that Rose, whose greatest strength lay in her mental abilities, could be injured through a mental attack made Kael and the other's hearts sink into an abyss.
The situation suddenly became far more hopeless and only now did the gravity of their current circumstances truly settle upon them.
All this while, they hadn't been attacked by the undead. They had tried to theorize the reasons why but couldn't come up with anything tangible.
As for Kael, he had initially believed they were being reared, fattened, and treated like livestock awaiting slaughter. After all, he had seen the Elite Crawlers move to kill the Epic Awakened so they could evolve into First Orders.
So he had reached the conclusion that the survivors were being preserved until they evolved into Second Orders. After all, it seemed the system of advancement for humans differed from that of beasts and zombies.
Yet there was another troubling thought.
The fact that the actual number of undead kept decreasing disturbed Kael to no end. He had noticed this since the second night event, yet no matter how much he thought about it, he couldn't figure out the reason.
Now his sister was telling him that the undead which had only appeared once so far...the same one capable of bypassing the near immunity granted by his Primordial class...was powerful enough to severely injure her using its mind.
One of the undead's supposed weaknesses. So far, only the Crawlers had broken that stereotype.
Now another had appeared and the revelation unsettled him greatly.
Feeling the gloomy atmosphere filling the room, Rose couldn't help but raise a brow.
After pondering for a moment, she spoke again.
"You don't need to be so down. It is only natural that it was able to injure me."
"What do you mean?"
The others merely listened in silence as the siblings continued their conversation.
"Not only might that undead already be a Second Order, but I could also tell it possessed a higher race grade."
An explosion resounded within Kael's mind, genuine shock coloring his features.
"I can't tell you what I know about race grades because of the system... but what I can say is that they are just as powerful as classes... perhaps even more so."
Kael couldn't help but think of his Mythical skill, Godly Focus. Activating it had become almost instinctive, and it was one of the greatest reasons behind his strength despite his low level.
Simply allowing his Mind stat to become more than one hundred and fifty percent stronger automatically elevated his control over Energi to an entirely new level.
That alone greatly boosted the effectiveness of his unique resource when increasing his stats. Not to mention the tremendous enhancement to his skills, the reduction in Energi consumption, and finally, the massive improvement to his perception.
Yet...
That only affected one stat.
What would happen if every stat enjoyed such benefits?
His heart sank into the pit of his stomach, and his shoulders unconsciously slumped as though a mountain had suddenly been placed upon them.
- Sluurp!
Alas, his internal struggle was interrupted by another loud sip.
"One more."
"Get away!"
The words had barely left Rose's lips when Kael all but flung her away.
His frustration instantly turned into irritation as he glared at the little girl, who gracefully twisted through the air before landing lightly on her feet like a cat.
"Do you think I'm plucking coins from trees?"
