The creature didn’t move.

It simply… stared.

Hung upside down outside the shattered window, its pale, elongated face pressed close to the gap, those eerie, glowing blue eyes fixed on them with unsettling intensity.

There was no sound.

There was no movement.

Yet...

Something changed.

A pressure descended. It crept into the room like an invisible tide, suffocating and cold. The air grew heavy, thick enough that every breath felt forced.

Kael’s eyes narrowed.

'What is...'

He couldn't finish the thought, as a ripple passed through his mind.

Then, the world shattered into pieces.

---

Sophia was the first to react. Her body stiffened violently, her fingers clutching at her head as a broken whimper escaped her soft lips.

"N-no…"

Her eyes gradually lost focus.

"What… what is that…?"

Rose followed next. Her breathing turned erratic, her pupils shrinking as her gaze locked onto something only she could see.

"Stop… stop it…!"

She staggered backward before collapsing to her knees.

Nathan clenched his teeth, his entire body trembling. His fists tightened, veins bulging along his arms.

"I won’t… I won’t lose…!"

But whatever he saw shattered that resolve in seconds. His legs gave out, and he fell limply to the ground.

Claire tried to hold on longer than the rest. Her lips moved rapidly, as if reciting something under her breath, her mind desperately trying to stay grounded.

But even she faltered, as her body swayed. Then dropped.

Alice...

Didn’t even make a sound.

Her eyes widened slightly. Then dimmed, her body crumpling silently to the floor.

One by one...

They fell.

Kael remained.

But only barely. His breath hitched. The world around him twisted, distorting like shattered glass. The room flickered.

The bodies of his companions were gone.

Blood. So much blood drenched the floor, their metallic scent almost overwhelming his senses.

His eyes suddenly trembled as his gaze slowly lifted when he felt something change in his surroundings once more.

Sophia was lying motionless, her small body torn open, her lifeless eyes staring into nothingness.

"No…"

His voice came out as a whisper.

He saw Natalie collapsed beside Sophia's delicate but now mangled body.

He saw Nathan pinned to the wall like a broken doll.

Ms. Claire was nothing but a mangled heap.

Alice simply stood there, unmoving. Her amethyst eyes stared straight into his dark as night ones.

"You failed."

'No…'

Kael’s fingers twitched.

'This isn’t real…'

The thought formed.

He refused to believe the sight before him. Not after everything he had gone through.

But his body didn’t listen. His heart slammed violently against his ribs. His breathing turned ragged. His legs shook.

'It’s fake…!'

He knew it.

He knew it!

Yet...

The smell of blood filled his lungs, and the sight before him refused to fade.

Kael suddenly heard the sound of silent footsteps, causing him to go still. For some reason, something screamed at him not to raise his head, not to look at the horror before him. But that thoughts were instantly crushed when a familiar voice drifted into his ears.

"Big brother..."

Kael raised his head abruptly only to freeze. Slowly, his eyes grew wet, as he stretched his only good arm out.

"Rose?"

His voice sounded less than a question and more like a plea. A plea that what was before him wasn't real.

"Big brother..."

The voice came again, as Kael watched what stood before him.

It was his sister. Or at least he assumed it should be his sister.

The frame was the same, and the voice was no different. But the appearance was something that couldn't be seen even in a horror show.

The young girl stood before him, her head split into two, her brain clear to see, yet held by an invisible hand in place. He watched as it pulsed in place and tiny tendrils of flesh drew outward from walls of flesh surrounding her split skull.

Her two arms were nailed together down to her small hands with metallic structures digging into her flesh, both limbs raised in the gesture of a silent prayer.

Her stomach was split, with her intestines drawn out and directly wrapped around her neck like a rope knotted to suffocate her.

And her lower limbs...

Were black squirmy tentacles, their cups spurting a noxious pus that filled his senses. The macabre sight was enough to send one into a state of despair.

Kael didn't even realise when the tears spilled from his face as he watched the sight before him in stunned silence, almost as if his brain was failing to process it.

"Big brother..." The squirming tentacles moved as they pulled the creature closer to him.

"You said you will protect me. You promised to keep me safe."

The blank look in Kael's eyes slowly came back to focus. He could hear the emotions in that voice, and truly, he could tell that they belonged to his sister.

"Rose...how...this..."

Incoherent words flew out of his mouth, as a tentacle caressed his wet face.

"You lied."

Kael's breath hitched once more. For some reason, those two words hit so hard he felt his heart shatter. His cloudy eyes started to lose focus when the next words suddenly pulled him back to the wretched sight.

"Big brother...the pain...I am in pain..."

Kael quickly pulled the monster into his embrace, even as the noxious pus rubbed against his body.

"This is not real..." He whispered.

"Big brother..."

"No, this cannot be real."

"Save me..."

"AAAAAH!" The scream didn't come from the creature, but from Kael's own mouth. The raw emotions contained within the scream, would shake the heart of any observer. Kael needed an outlet. He needed a way to release all these pent emotions that were trying to eat their way out from his body. So he simply screamed out his pain.

His sorrow.

His fears.

At the same time, the creature in his embrace suddenly erupted with an hysterical cry as well, despite its head split.

"Big brother, SAVE ME!"

Both of their voices intermingled, creating a melody of twisted sound that would send the devil himself crawling back to his abode.

---

Back in the real world.

Outside the window...

The creature tilted its head. It observed Kael, those glowing eyes narrowing slightly.

As if…

Curious.

Seconds passed.

Or minutes.

No one could tell.

Then...

The pressure abruptly vanished.

Just like that.

Kael collapsed to one knee.

"HAH… HAH…!"

His lungs burned as he sucked in air like a drowning man breaking the surface. The illusion shattered completely. The room returned. He could feel his Energi reserve rapidly depleting as golden embers surrounded his body. His class granted him immunity against any form of mind manipulation, and allowed him to see through illusions.

And it worked.

From the very beginning, Kael could tell what he was seeing wasn't real. That, he was in an illusion. Yet...

His dim eyes looked around the room.

Everyone else was unconscious, their bodies laying on the ground, unmoving.

Kael’s hand trembled as he forced himself to look up, at the window.

The creature was long gone.

Silence filled the room once more.

But that too was soon broken.

  - Drip! -Drip! -Drip!

Kael quickly rubbed his eyes with his arm, but that didn't seem to help in the least.

He hunched closer to the floor still on his knees, as he tried to contain the emotions swirling within him.

  - Sniff!

But it was clear, he was failing at doing so.

Before he knew it, his muffled cries filled the now quiet room.

*****

Kael didn't know how long he knelt their crying. It could have minutes, or even hours. Not that he cared at this point.

Despite how much time had passed, no one showed any sign of waking up. He slowly dragged himself to the entrance of the room, before sitting against the wall.

With everyone unconscious, he had to remain on guard. His dim eyes shone with tiredness, as he sat their in silence.

With what happened earlier, Kael became certain of one thing. These undead, especially those of the elite rank had intellect. Most importantly, he and his group were not alive because of their own strength.

No.

They were being reared.

Fattened.

As for the reason why, Kael had a guess.

He sat there for what felt like hours, without moving an inch. Alas, it seemed the fatigue had finally reached a tipping point. Before he knew it, he fell into a deep sleep.

Time flowed without a care for whatever happened in the room, and soon after, another hour passed.

It was then that with a quiet click, the door to the bathroom slowly pulled open, and a disheveled Rachel came into view.
