ENERGI: THE PRIMORDIAL CONDUIT[OP MC, APOCALYPSE, SURVIVAL, AND LITRPG]
CHAPTER 69: MYTHICAL PHEONIXClaire took a deep breath as her rapidly pounding heart slowly settled.
When the rare-rank Ruinsteed had appeared, she had thought she would die, and this time without any chance to escape.
When power reaches a certain level, no measure of preparation or luck would make a difference.
And she had thought she was exactly in that situation.
But it seemed luck, or perhaps fate, had other designs.
She couldn't help but watch Natalie rubbing the creature's majestic coat even as it snorted softly.
She shook her head and turned her eyes toward her pupils, no, her former pupils.
Sophia was trembling so intensely, with her face so pale, Claire didn't even know when her own tired body moved to embrace the little girl.
"It's okay." She rubbed her silken golden hair and comforted her once more, "You are okay."
Feeling the girl's body relax slightly, she turned her attention toward Rose, who seemed to be handling the situation better than her friend. Still, she didn't hesitate to ask if she was truly alright.
The little girl nodded, wiping her forehead with her hand, her limb coming back slick with perspiration.
Just when Claire wanted to make sure the girl was truly alright, a shadow suddenly loomed over them, a foul stench flooding her senses, and a suffocating aura crashing over her like freezing sludge.
-BANG!
-BOOM!
A blast of air hit her so hard she stumbled onto her rear with Sophia still in her embrace.
'What is going on?'
She opened her eyes, only to see that the Ruinsteed was no longer behind her, but was now directly confronting a...
Seeing that creature that had made her wish for even death, Claire almost lost her sanity as she turned, about to scream for them to run. Escape anywhere, far away from that abomination.
Maybe they could regroup with Alice and Nathan, who were deep outside killing zombies.
However, no word came out of her mouth, and her head barely budged. Before she knew it, her eyes slowly dimmed, and she found herself in a different world, one she wished never to see again.
'This apocalypse is merciless.'
She had just been thinking she had escaped death, yet not even a minute later, she found herself in something worse.
-NEIGH!
The Ruinsteed roared in anger when it sensed Natalie also crumbling to the ground.
It tried to kill the weak creature who dared to harm its new friend, but the crawler was smart enough not to confront it directly.
It blinked in and out as it tried to kill one of the fallen members of the group.
Still, the rare-rank Ruinsteed was also smart enough not to go too far, protecting the unconscious group behind it.
However, it seemed that when it came to intellect, the crawler outsmarted it despite being a lower realm and several levels below the beast.
The crawler seemed to slip, and the Ruinsteed didn't hesitate to make use of the opportunity. It suddenly closed the distance, raised its front hooves, and smashed them down with such force that a crater five meters wide formed on the ground.
Yet, it realized too late that the creature had teleported behind it.
It turned back in time to see the crawler's claw streaking toward Rose.
It opened its mouth, about to release an angry roar when it happened...
-SKREEEEEEE!
A piercing, majestic cry suddenly filled heaven and earth, the presence of an ancient and divine being seeming to freeze the battlefield itself beneath its sacred authority.
The cry of a mythical being was not something the Blue Planet had prepared for.
It must be remembered that while Kael had a primordial class, the power he currently wielded was not even half of what he should have.
Far from it.
Common.
Rare.
Elite.
Epic.
Legendary.
Mythical.
And finally...
Primordial.
Each of these ranks denoted a new peak, an unfathomable mountain looming over those beneath them. A chasm almost too difficult to cross, and an abyss that swallowed all hope of comparison.
And yet, even compared to Kael, the power this cry contained was different. Classes were not the only path to power.
Again, in the grand cosmos, there were countless paths.
Talents.
Bloodlines.
Race Grades.
Titles.
And many more.
Just because Kael had the highest possible rank in one of these paths didn't make him the most special or the most powerful.
Not remotely close.
His potential could certainly not be questioned. But his raw power?
He was not the peak of his level.
And that proof was displayed here.
Despite only possessing a tenth of the strength a true mythical creature would have, the shocking wave of power that exploded from the small chick made the attacking crawler root itself to the spot.
A crimson light suddenly flew out from Sophia's embrace. It cut through the air and streaked into the night sky, only to reveal a majestic bird with a wingspan of more than ten meters. A regal crown sat upon its head, and crimson fire cascaded along its feathers.
It was such a beautiful sight, one that made even the horrors fighting on the battlefield come to a standstill, the monsters instinctively freezing as though faced with a predator far above them.
Suddenly, the massive figure of the Mythical Phoenix seemed to split into several pieces.
Before anyone could react, a shower of small phoenixes, each the size of the original chick, suddenly fell from the skies.
There were easily tens of them, each made of pure crimson fire. They released piercing cries that seemed to merge into one, shaking the minds of the beasts on the main battlefield.
And then destruction descended.
-BOOM!
One of the phoenixes slammed into the crawler still rooted among the unconscious group.
There was no massive detonation of force.
Instead, the miniature phoenix simply dissolved into a wave of fire that spread into the surroundings, instantly incinerating the undead into ashes while simultaneously providing warmth and comfort as it healed the hidden wounds of the unconscious group.
Another mini phoenix stealthily flew toward Kael's mangled figure before turning into bright crimson flames that engulfed him instantly.
As for the main battlefield, it was an entirely different story.
-BOOOM!
-BOOOM!
-BOOOM!
-BOOOM!
It was almost as if several bombs were detonating across the area, pillars of crimson fire erupting one after another, blasting apart the area in waves of incandescent destruction.
If Kael had not been so stubborn and had checked the status of his familiar, he would have noticed that the chick was only Level 1.
Though, that was now changing as it leveled up rapidly.
Despite being a mythical creature, the monsters on the battlefield were already deep into the First Order, so while the flames were no doubt immensely powerful, as proven by how the crawler even Kael had struggled against had died instantly, it was more of a nuisance than a true danger to the abominations.
Within the flames of destruction rampaging across the battlefield, several eyes suddenly locked onto the small creature flying high in the skies.
Undead.
Corrupted wolves.
Corrupted centipedes.
Corrupted Ruinsteeds.
Only one figure remained on the battlefield that had yet to succumb to the corruption.
Its once majestic coat was marred with several deep cuts, its blood pooling beneath it. The crimson mane running down its back fluttered wildly in the burning winds, resembling streams of living blood flowing against the darkness.
And yet it stood tall.
With its power, it could have escaped and only waited for the night event to end before retreating back into the spatial crack.
But what was the purpose of a King without its herd?
Even if it had to die on this battlefield, it would crush the bodies and bathe in the blood of the creatures that dared to harm its members.
It raised its head, opened its mouth, and released a deep rumble that shook the surroundings, concentric waves of air blasting out to snuff out the fire burning around it.
At the same time, the small flaming bird flying in the skies released another piercing cry, as the image of a true Mythical Phoenix formed around it once more.
The second night event had now reached its climax, the moon in the sky hanging low and pale as the final hours before dawn approached.
