"So you are telling me if it wasn't for the principal, you would have killed Daniel and Ben?"

"Yep."

Nathan flashed a grin, and Kael couldn't help but feel weird.

Wasn't this still the same senior of his who was always kind to everyone? How come he was now speaking of killing a person like he was talking about the weather?

Even now, Kael subconsciously diverted from thinking about Logan. He didn't want to deal with any such thoughts now.

Nathan suddenly raised a hand, and a dagger flashed into existence. The weapon's blade was curved almost like a small sickle, with intricate dark patterns etched on its surface. His hand flashed so quickly Kael couldn't even trace his movement.

Two daggers appeared in his hand rather than the previous one.

-Whoosh!

His hand moved once more, and four daggers appeared this time. Before Kael could even realize what was going on, an entire fan of daggers appeared in Nathan's right hand, rotating with a whirring sound and causing a sharp sensation to prickle across his skin.

Kael's eyes widened at the sight.

"Is this your soul weapon?"

Nathan smiled.

"Yes, it is."

His wrist flicked slightly, causing the rotating ring of daggers to cut across the room with a sharp splitting sound.

Kael's head shifted to the side to follow the blades' movement, only for Nathan to raise his left hand and, with a poof, the flying ring some distance away disappeared before suddenly appearing on his raised limb as if it had always been there.

"So cool!"

Nathaniel beamed, his eyes glowing like stars.

Kael's eyes lingered on the strange soul weapon before falling back on Nathan.

"So what's this? Are you showing off?"

"You guessed that right!"

"Tch, so you are finally revealing your true colors, huh?"

"Hahaha! I don't know what you are talking about. Your bro here is now strong enough to protect you."

The two's eyes locked for a few seconds before Kael raised a fist.

"Nice to have you back!"

Kael almost couldn't believe the changes to Nathan. His skin seemed to glow like a newborn baby's, his handsome features becoming even more sharper.

"It's nice to be back."

Nathan fist-bumped him, a small smile on his face.

Kael nodded and suddenly asked,

"So how did you suddenly appear behind me? I didn't sense you at all."

"An assassin would never reveal his cards."

The words barely left his mouth when a series of messages flashed before his vision. Soon after, he coughed out a mouthful of blood.

Yet before Kael, Natalie, and Nathaniel could react, Sophia, who had been silent within Kael's embrace, suddenly snapped a finger.

A pillar of warm golden radiance fell on Nathan, and his pale look instantly became rosy once again.

The words about to leave the trio's mouths died within their throats at the sight.

They couldn't help but look at the pair.

Had they become that formidable?

A strange glint flashed within Kael's eyes as he picked up Nathan's subtle message.

'An assassin, huh?!'

Still, Kael couldn't help but flash a strange smile.

"But didn't you just reveal your soul weapon?

Nathan smiled sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his head, the sight causing even the rugged-looking Nathaniel to be mesmerized, not to mention Natalie.

With his emerald eyes and auburn hair that had somehow become silkier, Nathan was just that much more attractive.

'Bloody hell!'

Kael couldn't help but curse within his mind.

The group chatted for a while longer, yet a part of Kael couldn't help but feel gripped with fear.

From what he had gathered, all the Epic-ranked Awakened had already appeared from their trials.

And considering his sister was a Legendary, Kael felt she might take longer than the others.

No, he hoped so, because the implication otherwise wasn't one he even wanted to entertain.

But if that was the case, what about Alice?

She was the only Epic rank yet to appear.

'It couldn't be that...'

A feeling of loss almost engulfed Kael, the corners of his eyes turning wet.

He didn't know why he was feeling like this. Was it because they had experienced life and death together, so they had grown so close?

He couldn't tell.

And honestly, he didn't care. He just wanted to see her again.

'No, no, no... there's no way she is dead.'

He glanced subtly at Natalie and noticed the girl didn't seem strangely worried.

For some reason, that calmed his rapidly beating heart slightly.

'She will definitely come back.'

The image of those two mesmerizing amethyst gems filled his mind, and once again, for some reason, his heart felt a yearning.

---

Kael sat against the wall, with Sophy sleeping in his embrace.

He rubbed the girl's head gently, her breathing, rising and falling rhythmically calmed his restless thoughts.

It was already close to evening, and after catching up with Nathan, the latter had left to support the old man, with Natalie and Nathaniel tagging along.

As for Kael, he really wasn't ready to see anyone, the principal included.

His eyes fell on Sophia's sleeping figure, and a sad smile surfaced on his face.

Despite how calm she had seemed, she must have endured a lot. He shifted slightly to make her more comfortable, and then he turned his attention to himself.

'I really have to get stronger. And do so quickly.'

[Godly Focus has been activated]

His dark as night eyes shone with a blue glow, as several thoughts spun within his mind.

Everyone around him was growing more powerful, and he couldn't allow himself to be left behind. Not in this wretched apocalypse.

'I currently have four ways of growing stronger.' With that thought formed, he summoned his status screen.

It was time for a power up.
