I stood there, still slightly dazed, lost in the lingering echoes of her voice
[Seth!] Paige’s sharp, urgent voice suddenly cut through my dreamy thoughts, yanking me back into cold reality.
I blinked, clearing my head as I mentally replied, ’Paige? What’s wrong?’
[Host, we have a minor situation,] Paige reported, her interface flickering rapidly in my vision. [While everyone was distracted by the final song, an unknown group snuck into the deep sub-basement levels beneath the stadium foundation. They’re currently setting up a Super mana bomb. If that thing detonates, it will shatter the structural wards, collapse the main stage, and cause massive civilian casualties.]
My brow furrowed into a sharp frown. ’A magical bomb?! Val’s security grid didn’t pick them up?’
[They used high-grade spatial camouflage and stealth talismans,] Paige explained. Then, her tone shifted into a relaxed, nonchalant giggle. [Don’t panic, Seth! It’s not a huge threat to us. I can easily map out their exact subterranean coordinates for you, and any powerhouse in your family can obliterate them in two seconds.]
Stepping back from the glass window, I turned around to face my family. "Grandfather," I called out, my voice firm and serious.
Alistair turned his head, raising an eyebrow in mild curiosity. "What is it, Seth?"
"I’m picking up a strange, volatile anomaly directly beneath the stadium foundations," I said smoothly, coming up with a plausible cover. "It’s giving me a dangerous feeling. It feels like a mana threat."
Alistair’s sharp eyes narrowed slightly. He closed his eyes for a fraction of a second, expanding his perception outward, but shook his head. "Hmm... I do not detect any ambient mana disruption."
"It might be because of my Astral Soul, Origin," I clarified calmly. "My conceptual awareness picks up subtle structural shifts before normal mana senses can."
Understanding flashed across Alistair’s weathered face. He nodded slowly, stroking his silver beard in thought. "Very well. If Origin is sensing a threat, we shall not ignore it. Go down and investigate the lower foundation, my boy. For safety, take Valerie with you. Her combat skills will be more than enough to handle whatever is lurking down there."
"Understood," I said with a nod.
Pulling out my phone, I quickly typed a message to Yerin. ’Yerin, those final two songs were absolute PEAK! You completely destroyed that stage! I have a quick errand to handle real fast, so I’m stepping out of the skybox early, but I’ll see you backstage the second you wrap up.’
Putting my phone away, I turned my gaze toward Val. Our eyes locked. Without needing a single word of explanation, Val gave me a sharp, decisive nod, her stoic, lethal bodyguard posture snapping back into place. Together, the two of us stepped out of the private VIP skybox and headed straight toward the dark, subterranean depths below the stadium.
...
The transition from the deafening, euphoric roar of the stadium to the suffocating silence of the subterranean sub-basement was jarring.
Guided by a glowing, translucent red pathway that Paige projected directly onto my retinas, Val and navigated through a maze of restricted maintenance corridors. The heavy, thumping bass of Yerin’s music echoed faintly through the thick concrete ceiling above us, a stark reminder of the hundred thousand people dancing completely unaware of the threat below.
[Take a left at the next junction, Host,] Paige directed in my mind, her tone dropping its usual chaotic cheerfulness for a crisp, tactical edge. [They bypassed the main structural foundations by blasting a hole into the natural bedrock.]
I relayed the directions to Val. We slipped past a series of heavy boiler units and found exactly what Paige described, a jagged, artificially melted breach in the reinforced concrete wall that opened into a dark, damp network of natural limestone caves. The air instantly turned cold, smelling strongly of wet earth and burnt ozone.
We moved silently through the winding cavern for over a minute, our footsteps completely muffled by the wet stone.
Finally, the narrow tunnel opened into a wide, hollowed-out underground clearing. I pressed my back against the jagged rock wall near the entrance, peering around the corner with Val right beside me.
In the center of the clearing stood five figures draped in heavy, dark tactical cloaks. They were surrounding a small, hastily erected metal pillar. Hovering three inches above the top of the pillar was a geometrically complex, glowing blue cube. It pulsed with a dense, highly volatile magical resonance that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
One of the cloaked figures standing nearest to the pillar held a long, crude spear wrapped in tattered grey bandages. The moment my eyes landed on the weapon, a strange, static-like sensation washed over my brain, making my vision blur slightly around the edges.
Val leaned in close, her lips barely an inch from my ear as she whispered in a breath so quiet it didn’t even disturb the dust in the air.
"That spear is an illegal sensory-jamming artifact, probably," Val assessed, her violet eyes locked onto the weapon. "It emits a high-density static field that masks mana signatures and disrupts structural wards. That is why the automated stadium security grid failed to detect their infiltration. Furthermore... that blue cube is a Class-A compressed mana bomb. If the core destabilizes, the resulting shockwave will shatter the stadium’s load-bearing foundations entirely."
I narrowed my eyes at the glowing cube. "Can you take them down before they detonate it?"
Val’s expression was ice-cold. "I will eliminate them. But the resulting combat clash might accidentally trigger the bomb’s fail-safe. You must stay back in the tunnel, Young Master."
"No," I whispered back, my eyes tracking the five targets. "While you have their attention, I’m going to slip around the perimeter and disable the bomb."
Val blinked, turning her head to look at me with genuine confusion. "Seth... defusing a Class-A mana core requires highly specialized runic engineering knowledge."
"Trust me, Val," I said with a steady, confident smirk. "I can handle it."
Technically, she was right as I couldn’t do it. I knew next to nothing about it, after all. But I had a horny system to assist with the task.
