I looked at Yerin, raising an eyebrow at her dramatic declaration. "Fight each other? What, do you want to throw hands in the middle of a theme park?"

"Worse," Yerin smirked, her dark eyes gleaming with mischief behind her face mask. She pointed a slender finger toward a massive, neon-lit indoor arena across the plaza. "Bumper cars. Electric arena. No rules, no mercy, and the last driver standing gets bragging rights for the rest of the week."

I looked up at the glowing sign above the building, which read NEON CRASH ARENA. "Bumper cars? That’s what you consider a fight?"

"Don’t underestimate the electric battlefield, Seth!" Yerin puffed out her chest, planting her hands on her hips. "I have a flawless track record in karting! I’ll spin your car around until you can’t tell left from right!"

"Is that a challenge?" I asked with a grin.

"It’s a declaration of war," she declared. She turned to Val, who was standing quietly beside us. "And you’re in too, Valerie! No standing on the sidelines this time."

Val looked at the glowing arena, then down at Yerin. Her stoic expression didn’t betray a single emotion, but a subtle glint entered her eyes. "Understood. I shall ensure tactical superiority on the track."

"Oho? Look at the quiet one making big promises!" Yerin laughed, grabbing my wrist and Val’s arm before dragging both of us straight toward the arena entrance.

Since Val had already coordinated with the park’s management, the attendant at the gate bowed respectfully the moment he saw us and escorted us straight to the VIP entrance. Within two minutes, we stepped onto the massive, neon-lit arena floor.

The track was huge, surrounded by rubber guardrails and lit by pulsing LED lights that changed colour to the beat of fast-paced arcade music. About twenty sleek electric bumper cars were lined up along one side, each equipped with heavy rubber bumpers and high-torque electric motors.

"Pick your ride!" Yerin cheered, sprinting toward a bright neon-pink bumper car near the centre.

I walked over to a dark metallic-grey car and slid into the small plastic seat. Thanks to my broad shoulders and athletic physique, it was a little snug, but the steering wheel felt solid in my hands. I buckled the safety belt across my lap and gripped the wheel, testing the pedal.

To my right, Val slid effortlessly into a sleek black car. She adjusted her grip on the steering wheel with almost mathematical precision, her posture as rigid and focused as though she were piloting a fighter jet into battle.

[Oh boy,] Paige’s voice chimed in my head, brimming with excitement. [Seth, are we using system modifications for this? I can boost your car’s torque by three hundred percent! You could literally launch Yerin through the roof.]

No system hacks, Paige, I replied with a laugh. It’s just bumper cars. I’m going to beat her fair and square with raw skill.

[Boring!] Paige groaned dramatically. [Where’s the fun in having god-like reality powers if you can’t turn your cousin’s bumper car into a rocket?]

I’m saving my aura for when she inevitably tries to pit-maneuver me, I replied.

BZZZZZZT!

A loud digital horn blared across the arena as the overhead lights flashed green and power surged through the electric ceiling grid.

"DIE, SETH!" Yerin screamed.

Without waiting a second, she slammed her foot down on the accelerator, her pink car shooting across the polished floor with a loud electric hum. She aimed straight for my front bumper, her face mask crinkling as she let out a wild war cry.

I reacted instantly. Thanks to my enhanced reflexes, her movements almost looked like they were in slow motion. I yanked the steering wheel hard to the left and stepped on the pedal.

SWOOSH!

My grey car spun on a dime, dodging her attack by inches. Yerin’s pink car overshot completely and slammed into the outer rubber guardrail with a loud CRASH!

"WHAT?!" Yerin gasped as the steering wheel spun wildly in her hands and her car bounced off the rubber barrier.

"You need to work on your aim, Nova!" I laughed, stepping on the pedal and spinning my car around to face her.

Before I could press my advantage, a dark shape filled my side mirror.

BANG!

A heavy impact slammed into my rear bumper, jolting my whole body forward against the seatbelt. I turned in surprise to see Val’s black car right behind me. She had executed a flawless, textbook PIT manoeuvre, breaking my traction and spinning my car in a complete circle.

Val didn’t say a word. She simply gave me a brief nod through her windshield before stepping on the accelerator and speeding toward Yerin.

"Tactical superiority achieved," Val said calmly over the arena speakers.

"Traitor!" Yerin yelled. Then she immediately threw her pink car into reverse, lined up her bumper with Val’s side panel, and slammed into her with a loud THWACK! "Nobody steals my prey!"

"Engagement accepted," Val replied, turning the wheel to lock bumpers with Yerin.

For the next fifteen minutes, the three of us engaged in total electric warfare across the track.

It was absolute chaos. Yerin drove like a complete maniac, screaming vengeance at the top of her lungs while wildly spinning her steering wheel and trying to ram both of us from every possible angle. Val drove like a seasoned combat driver, calmly predicting trajectories, executing flank attacks, and pinning us against the rubber walls with terrifying precision.

Meanwhile, I used my enhanced reflexes to weave between their attacks, drifting across the polished floor and ramming Yerin’s rear bumper whenever her guard dropped.

"SETH! STOP TARGETING ME!" Yerin shrieked as I rammed her car for the third time in a row, sending her spinning near the centre of the track.

"I’m not targeting you! You’re just in the way!" I laughed, ducking as Val’s black car sideswiped me from the left, forcing my car into a sharp drift.

"Everyone is an enemy on the battlefield," Val stated over the intercom as her blonde hair swayed slightly while she executed another sharp turn.

BZZZZZZT! The digital horn blared again, signalling the end of the session, and the electric current in the ceiling grid cut off. All three cars gradually coasted to a stop in the centre of the arena.

For a few seconds, the only sounds in the arena were our heavy breathing and the quiet hum of the cooling fans.

Yerin let out a long, breathless sigh, flopping her head back against the headrest. Her baseball cap was slightly crooked, with a few stray locks of wavy dark hair falling across her forehead. She pulled off her face mask slightly, her flushed face breaking into a wide, radiant smile as she burst into a fit of genuine, helpless laughter.

"I haven’t... laughed this hard in years!" Yerin admitted, wiping a tear of laughter from the corner of her eye as she adjusted her hat. "That was incredible!"

I unbuckled my seatbelt and stepped out of my car, offering her a warm, genuine smile as I helped her out of hers. "Same here. I never got to do stuff like this when I was younger."

Yerin looked up at me, her dark eyes softening beneath the dim neon lights as she gently squeezed my arm. "Well, you’re going to do all of it now. That’s a promise, Seth."

Val stepped out of her black car, smoothing down her jacket with her usual crisp posture, though a faint trace of an amused smirk still lingered on her lips. "An acceptable combat exercise. My reflexes remain sharp."

"Acceptable?!" Yerin gasped, turning to pout at Val. "Valerie, you almost flipped my car twice! You’re a menace!"

"I operated within standard safety parameters," Val replied.

We all laughed, the shared adrenaline and exhaustion bringing the three of us even closer. We walked out of the arcade area into the cooling late-afternoon sun, the sky above the theme park painted in breathtaking shades of orange, purple, and gold.

As we strolled down the main plaza, watching the park’s lights come on one by one, a profound sense of peace settled deep in my chest.

I looked at Yerin chatting excitedly about her next food target and at Val walking calmly beside us, her vigilant gaze constantly scanning our surroundings. Back in my old life, I was just an exhausted, burnt-out orphan grinding away under an arrogant boss, wondering if my existence even mattered.

Now, with an incredible family, loyal friends, and an energetic cousin by my side, I knew my life would never be dark or lonely again.

"Hey, Seth!" Yerin called out, grabbing my hoodie sleeve and pointing toward a massive, glowing stall near the exit. "Look! Fresh churros and chocolate dip! We have to complete the food section of the list before we leave!"

"Lead the way, Nova," I chuckled, walking beside her into the warm evening light.

Life was good.

And I was going to enjoy every single second of it.
