I really couldn’t believe the beauty who I had been hanging out with for hours was the Goddess Ishtar herself. Paige didn’t need to tell me about her, as I already knew about Ishtar quite a bit. That was why I wasn’t surprised why she was so confident in her charms and sexuality.

’Wait...’ I paused, looking up at Ishtar. ’If she passively radiates a god-tier charm aura that drives men wild... why wasn’t I affected at all?’

Paige scoffed loudly in my head, her tone dripping with intense, protective pride. [Are you serious, Host?! As if I’d ever let some ancient Mesopotamian goddess mind-control my Host! My passive system protection filters out all high-tier charm, mental manipulation, and spiritual coercion automatically! You were completely immune from the start!]

I let out a quiet breath of relief. ’Thank God for system safety filters, otherwise I would be no different than other people.’

[Not quite...]

’What do you mean?’ I got confused.

[You still have your Astral Soul, Host. You won’t let me disclose its details so I can’t tell you about it, but it’ll produce different results than you expect.]

’Maybe... I’ll try it out someday.’

[The Mad Scientist, Hououin Kyouma!]

’Shut up!’

Taking a moment to compose myself, I set my half-eaten roasted corn down on the bench and looked up at the Goddess of Uruk with a dry, thoroughly deadpan expression.

"Alright, ’Goddess Ishtar’..." I began, raising an eyebrow. "... if you’re a literal ancient deity, why in the world were you trying to scam a random jewelry shopkeeper in the middle of a commercial plaza earlier today?"

Ishtar’s majestic, confident posture instantly crumbled.

A sharp, panicked shiver ran down her spine as her face flushed bright pink, a reaction she clearly hadn’t expected from a mortal after revealing her true divine identity. But I couldn’t help it. No way, I was going to act all shocked when this goddess was actually scamming her own people.

"I-I wasn’t scamming him!" Ishtar sputtered, waving her hands defensively with a flustered pout. "I was... I was merely exercising divine oversight on local commercial practices! That merchant was overcharging my citizens, so I was just balancing the cosmic ledger!"

"Right..." I said, giving her a look of absolute disbelief. "And I’m the King of England. Try again."

Ishtar huffed, crossing her arms beneath her lush bust and dramatically turning her head away. "Hmph! Fine! Whatever! Think what you want!"

I shook my head, leaning back against the stone bench. "So... why did you follow me through the market and take me on a two-hour date across Uruk, then?"

Ishtar turned her gaze back toward me, her dark eyes softening as she looked at me thoughtfully.

"Word travels fast among the divine, Seth," Ishtar explained quietly, stepping back toward the bench. "Your Astral Soul, Origin, caused a massive disturbance across the higher realms during your awakening. I knew about about you but I didn’t know your face. Naturally, I was curious about the human who held the ultimate authority over reality."

She paused, taking a seat beside me on the bench, her lotus scent drifting through the breeze. "At first... I followed you simply because you seemed interesting. Despite being a mortal, you walked past me in that alley and looked me straight in the eye without falling under my charm aura. Then, I sensed your Sovereign Deck... and I wanted to see if you were truly immune to me or if you were just putting on a clever act."

"And?" I asked, tilting my head.

Ishtar offered a soft, genuine smile, a far cry from her earlier narcissistic flirtation. "Normally... because of my passive divine authority, I can never have a simple, ordinary day. Every man I encounter either grovels at my feet, stammers like an idiot, or tries to use my beauty for political gain. I can never just walk through my own city as a normal person."

She looked at me, her dark eyes shining with genuine warmth. "But today... walking through Uruk with you... you didn’t grovel. You didn’t stare at me like a mindless puppet. You teased me, called out my scams, caught me when I stumbled, and treated me like an actual person. It was... the first genuinely normal day I’ve had in four thousand years."

I stared at her for a moment, letting out a light chuckle. "Isn’t it a bit arrogant to assume I’m the only person immune to your charms?"

Ishtar laughed melodiously, nodding in agreement. "Oh, it’s completely arrogant! But the only other beings immune to my authority are ancient, dusty gods or stuffy council members who haven’t smiled in ten centuries! None of them are my type, and none of them would ever buy me roasted corn on a stone bench."

She looked me dead in the eye, a radiant smile spreading across her face. "So... thank you, Seth. Sincerely. For giving me a wonderful day."

Looking at her bright, genuine expression, a warm smile spread across my face as well.

"You know..." I said softly, looking her in the eyes. "...that’s the first completely genuine smile you’ve shown me all afternoon. You should smile like that more often. It looks way better than your dramatic goddess face."

Ishtar froze.

She stared at me in absolute silence for three long seconds. The warm twilight wind ruffled her dark hair as her eyes searched my face, taking in my calm, sincere expression.

SWOOSH.

Without warning, Ishtar slid off the stone bench.

In a single, fluid, regal motion, the ancient Goddess of Love and War dropped onto one knee before me on the marble pavement. Her flowing crimson silk robes parted slightly, revealing a long stretch of her fair, shapely thigh.

Reaching into her inner sash, she pulled out a small, exquisite velvet box. She snapped it open, revealing a pair of magnificent interlocked rings crafted from shimmering cosmic gold and azure starlight.

Ishtar raised her head, looking up at me with a brilliant, completely unhinged smile that made my heart leap into my throat.

"Seth Fernando..." Ishtar declared softly, her voice carrying a sweet, intoxicating cadence through the quiet plaza. "...will you marry me?"
