After finishing his business with Hammer, Clyde left the forge with his new sword secured in his left hand. The weapon felt unfamiliar but not uncomfortable. Its weight was slightly different from the Elderglass sword he had once wielded but Clyde already felt that it would not take him long to adapt.
Hammer understood that everything about Clyde’s return had to remain a secret. If the Council learned that the young survivor they had recently rescued was actually someone resurrected from death, questions would follow immediately.
He believed that Maethion could handle the situation for now, but involving too many people would only create unnecessary risks.
Clyde trusted Hammer to keep his mouth shut. The dwarf had never been particularly good at keeping a pleasant expression but he had always been reliable when it mattered.
Clyde also expected him to make sure his apprentices did not spread anything they had overheard.
For now, all Clyde could do was wait for Maethion to arrange his assignment.
But that would not happen so soon.
Clyde had not officially joined the fighters of Sivagadh Fortress yet. Without that position, he had no legitimate reason to leave the fortress and enter a Ruin. Even if Maethion wanted to help him, sending him out too quickly would attract attention.
So while he waited, Clyde decided to train.
He eventually reached the central area streets of Sivagadh Fortress. Several large portals stood there, each leading to different locations. Some were connected to the outside world and allowed the fortress’s fighters to travel into Ruins. Another led to a special dimension designed specifically for training.
Clyde stepped through that portal.
The world changed instantly. There was no disturbance while he was transferring between dimensions when he traveled here.
He emerged into a vast open plain covered in green grass. Low hills stretched across the distance, scattered trees grew throughout the landscape. The sky was clear, and a gentle breeze moved across the field.
Several people were already training.
Some of them were practicing with swords. Others were testing their magic power or fighting against summoned targets.
None of them paid attention to Clyde’s arrival. They were too focused on their own training.
Clyde walked farther away from the others until he found a secluded area near one of the hills. He stopped there and looked down at the sword in his hand.
The blade was longer than his old Elderglass sword. He rotated the weapon slightly, feeling its balance.
"It shouldn’t take long," he thought with a small smile.
His fighting style had been built through countless battles. Changing weapons would require some adjustment but the fundamentals remained the same. That was because he had a skill called [Weapon Master].
Clyde slowly raised the sword. Then he closed his eyes. For a moment, he stood completely still. The wind passed through the grass around him.
Then his body moved. The sword cut through the air.
Clyde stepped forward and swung horizontally, then immediately reversed the motion and brought the blade downward.
He twisted his waist and thrust forward, imagining an enemy standing directly before him. His movements flowed from one attack into another without hesitation.
He slash, thrust, step, turn, then another slash followed. His movements became faster.
Clyde’s body moved according to memories carved deeply into his muscles. His attacks had a purpose, and every step carried the instinct developed through a lot of fighting for survival.
But something was missing. His body was still too weak. Clyde felt the difference with every movement he made.
His muscles could not produce the same explosive strength as in his life before. His reaction speed was lower. His stamina was nowhere near what it had once been. Even his control over his physical movements felt slightly restrained by this unfamiliar body.
Clyde frowned. This body still has a long way to go.
He did not stop. If he could not immediately regain his old strength through levels, then he would strengthen the foundation first.
He swung again and again. He stabbed forward repeatedly before transitioning into a series of sweeping attacks. His feet moved across the grass as though an invisible army surrounded him.
Sweat gradually covered his body. His breathing became heavier and his muscles began to ache. But Clyde continued anyway.
He practiced until every movement became boring. He adjusted his grip, changed his stance, experimented with different angles, and gradually adapted the longer blade to his fighting style.
The sun slowly descended across the artificial sky. The shadows of the hills stretched farther across the grass.
Clyde finally stopped and lowered the sword and breathed heavily. His body trembled a little bit from the exhaustion. It was nowhere near enough but it was a start.
Clyde wiped the sweat from his forehead before turning toward the portal.
He walked back without saying anything and stepped through.
The familiar streets of Sivagadh Fortress appeared around him once again.
Not long after, he reached the living quarters assigned to him. Clyde entered his room and closed the door behind him.
The room was simple. A bed, a small table, a chair, and a few basic facilities were all he had been given. He placed the new sword carefully beside his bed. For a moment, he looked at it. Then he entered the bathroom.
After washing away the sweat and dirt from his training, Clyde returned to the room wearing fresh clothes. He sat on the edge of the bed for a while before finally lying down.
His eyes remained fixed on the ceiling. There were too many things to think about. His hand slowly tightened against the blanket.
He had returned to Sivagadh Fortress and regained his two old friends. It was easier than he had thought. He even had obtained a new weapon.
But none of that changed the most important fact that he was still too weak. Beyond this hidden world, the Higher Beings were still alive and thriving.
Clyde closed his eyes. He needed to train more tomorrow.
