Aside from Samuel, Leyan was the only other person who noticed something familiar.
At first, the elf almost did not show any interest in the battle. He stood several meters away with his arms crossed, gazing toward the artificial sky of the training dimension with his usual brooding expression.
But the clash of metal kept going so that it gradually caught his attention.
At first, Leyan just listened. Then he glanced over, and his eyes immediately settled on the scene of the battle and he kept looking at them until the end.
Don was sitting on the grass now, breathing heavily. His shield had been kicked several meters away, the longsword of the young man named Jack was pointed directly at his face.
Leyan stared at Jack. Thinking about that fighting style... For a moment, Clyde’s familiar figure appeared in his mind, it just came naturally to him.
The speed, aggression, and ruthless way Jack constantly pressed forward and gave his opponent almost no opportunity to breathe was disturbingly similar.
Leyan’s eyes narrowed.
But then he shook his head. There was no reason to think about something so absurd. Clyde was dead.
Just because someone else fought with such speed and ruthlessness did not mean there was any connection between them. The way a person fought was often connected to their personality.
Perhaps this young man was just carrying his anger out of the Selection Stage with him. Maybe the things he had experienced there had shaped the way he thought, and fought. That was all.
Leyan looked away. He had no intention of wasting his time thinking about ghosts.
Nearby, the mage lowered his staff. His name was Arven, a quiet man with dark hair and an observant gaze. Beside him, the woman with the curved blades, Maira, finally gave her relaxed smile. Both of them seemed satisfied with what they had seen.
Jack was strong and that was enough. Now they just had to accept him as an official member of their team.
Leyan did not mind because the more capable fighters they had in this party, the better. That had always been his opinion.
Meanwhile, Clyde lowered his sword and extended a hand toward Don. "Come on."
Don stared at the offered hand for a moment before grabbing it.
Clyde pulled him back onto his feet. Don rubbed his bruised jaw and let out a tired breath.
"I underestimated you," he admitted. "That was my mistake."
Clyde smiled lightly. "I got lucky."
Don gave him an incredulous look and a grin. "Lucky, eh?"
Clyde shrugged. "You let your guard down at the beginning. After that, I just managed to keep the pressure on."
Don snorted. "Alright. Anyway, you’re stronger than I expected."
The two walked back toward Samuel and the others.
Samuel smiled.
"Congratulations, Jack. Looks like you’ve officially earned your place in the team," Samuel said.
"Thank you," Clyde replied.
Samuel then gestured toward the others.
"You’ve already met Don. This is Leyan."
Leyan gave Clyde a brief nod.
"Nice to meet you," Clyde said without showing anything.
"And this is Arven, our mage."
Arven raised one hand slightly. "Welcome."
"Finally, this is Maira."
The woman with the curved blades smiled. "Good to have you with us."
Clyde smiled politely and nodded toward each of them.
"It’s nice to meet all of you. I’ll do my best not to become a burden," Clyde said.
"You better not," Don said, then immediately snorted.
Clyde chuckled.
The atmosphere became lighter after that. Then after that, they spent some time training together.
Clyde deliberately restrained himself, allowing the others to get used to his fighting style while carefully observing theirs in return.
Samuel fought with his spear in a precise and controlled manner, his skill was clearly developing.
Leyan was still as calm as Clyde remembered, relying on speed and his techniques.
Don specialized in defense and overwhelming counterattacks, while Maira moved like a fast shadow around her opponents. Arven stayed farther back, supporting the others with utility magic and minor healing.
Clyde watched all of them carefully. He already knew Samuel’s and Leyan’s habits but this was a different timeline so he needed to learn who they had become now.
Eventually, the training session ended and the group gathered their equipment and returned through the portal.
They disappeared from the training dimension. Clyde followed them and a minute later the familiar sights of Sivagadh Fortress appeared on the other side.
Samuel stopped Clyde before the others could disperse.
"Jack."
Clyde turned toward him.
Samuel looked at him seriously. "From now on, we’ll be working together. It won’t be easy. Our missions can become dangerous, and we don’t have the strength to spare protecting someone who can’t keep up. We’ll cover each other when necessary, but I hope you can help us instead of becoming another burden."
His tone was not hostile. It was simply a fact.
Clyde’s expression became determined. "You don’t need to worry about that. I won’t be a burden."
Samuel studied his face for a moment.
There was no hesitation in his eyes. No arrogance either. Only quiet determination.
Leyan glanced at him from the side. The elf had seen plenty of people boast about their strength before. Most of them eventually became liabilities once a real mission began.
But Jack did not look like someone making an empty promise.
Don crossed his arms and gave Clyde a short nod. Maira smiled a little. Arven simply nodded.
They didn’t say anything, but they had already accepted him a little more than before.
Samuel finally smiled. "Good. Then let’s work well together."
The group soon separated and returned to their respective living quarters.
Clyde also returned to his room.

Several days later, Samuel received a summons from the main administrative building.
He arrived there and was directed to the mission counter, where a new mission record was waiting for his team.
The woman behind the counter handed him the document.
"A team entered a Ruin several days ago," she explained. "They were supposed to return already, but we haven’t received any report from them."
Samuel’s expression became serious. "Are they considered missing?"
The woman nodded. "Yes. The Council wants your team to investigate. Find them if they’re still alive. If they aren’t... Confirm what happened."
Samuel looked down at the mission record. Another Ruin, with unknown situation.
He nodded and folded the document.
"I’ll gather my team."
He turned and walked out of the building. It seemed their first mission together had arrived.
