"What?"
Alex still hadn’t fully caught up to what was happening, as he was still a little focused on the Qi circulating through his body. He slowly let it settle before looking back at the Celestial. Seeing Sunflare’s face, he shrank a little.
"How did you learn the Five Yang Divine Path technique?" the man asked, his eyes as wide as they could be.
"I... I learned it in the lower realm," Alex said quickly. "It was a book I found down there."
"What?" The man looked down for a moment before looking back up. "You found our book?"
Alex blinked in surprise. He had always had some inclination that the book with a name so similar to the Nine Yang Divine Tree had to have something to do with it. It appeared it did, for this was a book belonging to the Nine Yang Court.
"I did," Alex said, saying nothing more.
Sunflare’s eyes darted around for a moment, as though thinking about something important, before looking right back at Alex.
"That doesn’t matter. Tell me how you learned it," the man demanded.
Alex didn’t know what to say. "I just did, senior. I found the book—"
"No, not where you learned it. How you learned it," he said. "That book is not something just anyone can learn. One has to have a Yang spirit root that is of—"
The man’s words stuck in his throat as he looked down at Alex, his eyes widening slowly as he realized something that he had not expected at all.
"Supreme Yang Root!"
There were more strong spirit roots inside of Alex’s body, but the one that the man had focused on, and the only one that was important in this conversation, was the Yang root, and that was the one he noticed was of the Supreme rank.
Alex immediately realized that the Celestial’s Divine sense was inside of his body and flared up his Yang, instantly destroying Sunflare’s Divine sense.
Sunflare moved a few steps back out of surprise. He hadn’t yet gotten used to the previous shock, and already he was receiving more.
"What... what was that?"
Alex stared at the man with a serious look. "Please do not use your Divine senses on me. You may be a Celestial, but you do not have the authority to look into me."
The man hardly cared whether Alex was being rude or not. His entire focus was only on the fact that Alex had a Supreme-rank spirit root, something that had previously been considered downright impossible to achieve.
He remained a distance away from Alex for some time, simply looking at him. And then, after a while, he spoke again.
"How... how do you have it?" he asked.
"The technique?" Alex asked.
"No, the spirit root. The Supreme Yang spirit root. How do you have it?" Sunflare asked.
Alex shrugged. "I’ve had it for a long time. Basically ever since I started cultivating."
The man’s eyes narrowed. "You’ve had it ever since you were born?"
"No, I didn’t have it from birth," Alex clarified. "I had a Superior Yang root from the start, but not the Supreme Yang. That one I received..."
He paused slightly, coming to the realization that perhaps he shouldn’t continue here.
"Received how?" the man asked, practically demanding an answer.
Alex worried slightly for his life going forward. The only thing giving him solace in that moment was the fact that the man wouldn’t attack him or do anything to harm him, all because of the fact that he couldn’t let the tree in his Soul Space suffer the repercussions of his actions.
So, Alex told him.
"My Yang spirit root improved to the Supreme rank when I ate the fruit of the Nine Yang Divine Tree."
Whatever emotions Sunflare may have had before that point could not compare to what hit him next. The emotions overwhelmed him to the point that none of them actually ended up showing on his face.
"I’m sorry. What?"
"I ate the fruit of the Nine Yang Divi—"
"You didn’t die?" the man cut him off immediately.
Alex paused for a moment before shaking his head. "I was already dying when I got to the fruit. Eating it was what allowed me to survive."
Sunflare kept looking at Alex as if wanting to look into his brain directly and find all the answers himself. He was far too curious to ask one question at a time.
He restrained himself from doing anything else.
"The fruit of a Nine Yang Divine Tree is said to be as bright as the sun itself. It is said to be as hot as the sun, and just as destructive. How could you survive it?" the man asked.
Alex shrugged. "I don’t truly remember any of it. I was missing limbs, dying of poison at that time, and had lost every bit of my senses. All I remembered was getting to the fruit and eating it. And then, when I woke up again, I was fully healed, with all the poison in my body destroyed."
"But..." The man didn’t know what to say. That didn’t answer his question. "But how could you survive it? It’s not possible to survive such a thing."
"Maybe it’s because of my body," Alex answered.
"Your body?" the man asked.
"I had the Sun God’s Divine Yang Body back then."
The words caused the old man to nearly fall on his butt. "You... you have the Sun God’s Divine Yang Body?" he asked in perhaps as much shock as when he learned about him eating the fruit.
"I do," Alex answered. "Or rather, I did."
"Did?"
"When I ate the fruit, it upgraded to the Sun God’s Celestial Yang Body," Alex said.
"WHAT?" The man’s eyes widened more than they ever had before. "You have the Sun God’s Celestial Yang Body?"
Alex barely held in his smirk. "I did."
The man’s jaw slowly fell. "You don’t mean..."
"It upgraded too," Alex said. "I currently hold the Sun God’s Godly Yang Body."
