The world very slowly and very painfully came back to Lind. If not for being impossible, he thought he had gone on a 3 day bender after a hard week of work. His blurry vision really confused him as it was not blue sky but rafters of dark wood with white plaster coming into focus.
When had such a thing existed in his hold? His sluggish mind was not working properly. Each thought was like a battle to just question colors let alone context.
It was only when he attempted to get his body to move, which filed a strong complaint about it, that he realized he was on a bed. That thought was quickly followed by gravity still exists.
He fell to the floor and found dark wood with a simple blue carpet waiting for him. It was the only fact he registered before he had to close his eyes once more. Pain throbbed through him again but compared to the rest of his body, it was fairly minor.
Still, the new pain helped clear some of the fog.
He was in a building that thrummed with power. He tried to extend his aura only to nearly black out. In fact, any attempt to even touch his foundations resulted in mind searing pain.
"What the–COUGH!" His throat was bone dry and resulted in coughing when he spoke. The limbs he once counted on refused to help him stand up as if the connections to the nerves were dulled.
That was a blatant lie as the pain kept coming!
He could only think that his brain was overloaded just working at its current level. Anything more was beyond it.
He lay face down focusing on healing as best he could. While his cultivation could not respond, his body was in better shape. The mental focus allowed the pain to slowly recede as the bright day became dim.
There had to be a window but his current deep inspection of the rug fiber prevented him from confirming that fact. Since he did not need to eat, it made sense no one came to check on him at meal times yet any healer should at least do a bed check at some point!
As if the thought was a summons, he felt a flow of air across his skin. He dared not try to speak as he had no desire for a new coughing fit. There was no cry of surprise or any cry of alarm.
He was confused until he heard a familiar giggle. By the spirits why?!
"Our beloved husband is such a powerful and wonderful man that he is even inspecting the weave of a rug for our room." Shoti's voice was welcome yet he desperately wanted to grasp her and tell her it was not the time for jokes.
"He cannot move, obviously. We will need some help." Qing?! She betrayed him like that?!
A sudden movement was accompanied by the gentle flow of prismatic flames cleansing him. Ethry was looking at him with concern but he could still not make his body respond.
His eyes must have revealed his situation as Shoti quickly dropped her smile. Her violet eyes filled with concerns as the 3 women quickly checked him over and administered some basic care.
He noticed a strange artifact in Qing's hands that he had never seen before. It glowed with gold and white light as it was waved over him. It was a half cube with the other half being moving metal appendages.
Some were very close to antennae from an insect but others were like tiny radar dishes. It fit easily in her hand so he could not see everything. Still, he could make out it drained her heavily.
The aura then shot up her arm and into her eyes. She was reading something! He could see her eyes move!
Her pale face frowned deeply.
She turned to Ethry and Shoti yet did not speak aloud. They were transmitting and he could not sense it at all! What was going on?!
The trio then looked at him in a way he could read like a book. He was not in good shape. He probably should not be conscious but dragons were resilient bastards.
They could lose limbs and be bleeding to death but would not go into that darkness alone if they could help it.
Resilient did not mean they could recover from everything if they lived.
"We will be back, Beloved." All 3 kissed him on the forehead or cheek as they desired. He could not even respond without pain!
Darkness fell and time actually felt like it crawled. He had never been so trapped in his life. Even when he fell into the Ruin that led to his World Realm breakthrough, he had still been able to cultivate and move.
He slowly found his fingers and toes finally responding but it came with soreness. It was like his entire body was bruised very badly.
A floating orb of violet light came in and a recent acquaintance came in. It was the old woman Eternal Realm. She was solemn and bowed low to him.
"Your actions saved trillions. Many that were standing aside in this fight have now come to our side. Others that thought to fish in troubled waters also have come. We are still tallying for certain all the dead but they are far eclipsed by those you saved." It was a small comfort.
He knew mentally there was little else he could have done, yet he had seen it. He had seen all those souls forcibly taken in by the Bastard.
As if reading his mind, she smiled sadly at him before a dark wand appeared in her hands. A feeling of soothing relief passed through his body.
His dry throat actually became usable as well. His arms, legs, and neck finally responded to his commands. Still, soreness remained.
"This is temporary. What you did was full of risks of crippling you. If it was not your Primal Path Intent, you likely would be. Never do that again if you can. A crippled Eternal Realm is not a way to live, believe me." He could imagine the horror of it.
A body that would never die but no power to wield. Constant and unending pain whenever he was touched by Qi which he would be the source of was no better than Hell.
"Can they stop living?" Fading was sometimes a choice for crippled Divine Realm cultivators but she shook her head.
"Without our powers, we are unable to die on our own. Even asking others to help may not work. It is a warning we all take seriously due to living examples. In a way, the Fiend is a blessing to them." Lind shivered at that.
"What have you done to me exactly?" He could start to feel the pain slowly increasing in his joints.
"The short version is my speciality, suspending calamity. I cannot stop it forever, but I can buy time. If a landslide occurs, I can literally pause it for a few years or reverse and hold it a few months. In your case, I have lifted the pain but it is so immense I cannot hold it for long. You need to try and make something to heal yourself as no one who has survived has the ability to help you." Her words made him stare at her.
There were no healers in the Eternal Realm?
He had no idea what to make as he had not really had the chance to but he felt raw healing was better than nothing.
Haro appeared and seemed to have a small mountain of herbs, Qi stones, beast cores, and various other items. The beast cores made him look up and see a smile from the old woman.
He moved fast and was shocked how easily the power came to him. It was like some door had been opened and commanding extraction was far easier.
Yet, instead of essence, it was pure intent he pulled out of each item! It shimmered and he realized he was pulling what he needed. He quickly conjured water and fire.
The intents merged in the swirling water and fused to make a vibrant orange and gold elixir. He moved to put in vials when he realized he had none. He dared not delay but the clink of jade bottles drew his eyes.
She had rather ornate jade bottles lined in gold, black and silver patterns. He moved the orb over them and filled the bottles. Oddly, the quantity to fill was far less than he expected.
Even she was surprised. Lind still had a third left but Haro summoned a crystal casket he had made at the peak of the Mystery Grade. It was meant to contain a powerful beast so it might work.
The remaining liquid dropped into the casket. It steamed and creaked but it held!
The instant he sealed it, pain rocketed back into his body as he spasmed. Haro was outside so he helped him back to bed. The old woman was looking at the casket with an intense gaze.
"You really are a Transcendent Maester. Even this Divine Artifact at Mystery Grade is able to withstand the power of a grade 9 elixir." He barely noted her words.
Was his pain worse?
"Master, forgive me." A strong grip suddenly held his neck and jaw while violet energy forced his body to stillness.
"Hurry, even injured, his strength is immense!" The old woman was covered in sweat. She had clearly undersold how much burden her skills put on her.
The casket was the first to come, obviously, as it would degrade faster than the vials. Lind nearly choked but the liquid magma now flowing in his body brought a kind of numbness.
As he had thought previously, the elixir was basically overkill on healing. It was pure vitality, restoration, and enhancement of his healing ability. The fact the pain was not gone, just numbed told him how bad his body actually was.
He had paid a very steep price but he was alive. Now, he had to heal.
