Thunder Child carefully set Lind's prone form on his bed. Her sisters were right behind her and they were all 3 of one mind.
They had struggled and lost many friends trying to figure out why they were different. Some demons fell into their way of doing things but Elementals never did. Their cultivation path was so diverse from other races it seemed they were forever alien to others.
Everyone knew that while they could master their new powers and methods by combining intent with various levels of their path derivations had a ceiling. Once that ceiling was reached, all progress stopped.
They could all feel there was another step beyond, but it was beyond them. When the aether children learned they did not need intent at all, or could discard as needed, they hoped to find an answer but they smacked right into the same ceiling.
They could perform more impressive feats, mostly related to speed of execution, yet that was all. The same limit was imposed over them all.
Now, they had seen a glimpse of the truth. The very thing they picked up as a Master Tier was the least understood. They had grasped enough to take the step to the Eternal Realm, yet that mistake locked all of them in a trap.
"We have been seeking answers in so many ways but why did none of us consider the tiny flame born in the Master Tier?" Tempest Child's voice was soft but it cut through the silence of the room.
"Because you made the same assumption generations of cultivators had. You assumed 6 elemental cultivators and why they existed was not important until you needed answers." A gentle voice but full of steel came from behind them.
The trio whirled in shock to see no one. At first they thought maybe one of them was pulling a trick but then azure and golden Qi appeared to reveal a gorgeous aether child. Her aura was clearly in the Divine Realm but all 3 had their eyes become pinpricks.
"God?!" The title of God or Goddess was not a minor thing, even at the Eternal Realm. Some of them only became an Eternal Realm because of it. Those that Heaven and Earth acknowledged could be considered Eternal Seeds.
If they lived, they would face the least difficulty becoming an Eternal Realm. The ethereal woman in front of them felt on their level despite clear confirmation she was only a peak Journeyman Tier.
Her gold and azure skin shone with a quiet beauty that even they felt inferior to.
"What–What did you mean by that?" Worldblood Child was suddenly timid but a new voice piped up.
"I have watched him literally die over and over but none of you ever bothered to help him until your own lives were on the line. Are you still trying to use him like a tool?" They whirled to see someone they had heard a lot about. Snow white robes with black edges and burnt orange eyes out of a narrow face.
Her bestial aura made it clear she was a demon fox and a very powerful one. Thunder Child felt a shiver go down her spine as she swept by them. A name appeared in her mind.
"Lady Karu?" The woman paused and smiled yet it did not reach her eyes.
"Lady now, am I? At least I believe you mean it. Most of those leeches thought I was unaware of what they thought of me. Only those cantankerous ones actually were friends." The trio blinked as calling Goldthorn and Violet Cloud cantankerous was grounds for death in their eyes.
They were also eccentrics that were near the top of the totem poll of ranking between Eternal Realms. No one messed with them or those they chose to favor.
They were the first to support Lind Frey from what the trio had learned.
"We–we did not want to draw the monster's eyes. It was already a miracle we ascended to the Eternal Realm without having to leave the others behind. We are also not welcomed with open arms but we were used to that." Tempest Child was normally not one to bring that part of their history up.
Karu's harsh eyes softened and the Goddess also seemed to sympathize.
"You are both too soft, not that I do not understand it. Beloved always suffered from defending aether children and others when he was human." The trio felt the arrivals that time. They had not bothered to hide themselves.
There were 3 human women, a roc, and another dragon. It finally clicked in her mind.
"You are his brides?" The group looked at Thunder Child as if she was a bit dim. She wanted to get angry but something about all of them felt different. One of them was only an Immortal yet even shy seemed beyond her power.
"Husband lives by a simple if naive belief, people are not things." A new voice caught them off guard. A powerful beast with dark robes and strange part black and part emerald eyes were locked on Lind in the bed.
They had felt nothing but they recognized her race. The fearsome Shadow Tiger was a legendary existence due its draconic features. The fact a Divine Realm could avoid all their senses spoke volumes of how terrifying that race was.
The trio came from a Divine World that was ruled by beasts. The Shadow Tigers were overlords on par with dragons or phoenix races.
"Now that we have found him again, what are you planning to do?" The Goddess spoke again. She was highly respected by all the women now arrayed around the bed. The gorgeous blonde human was taking his vitals while whispering to the Immortal woman.
The trio were caught on their back food but then 2 new voices spoke from the doorway. How many people were coming?!
"Lind will help but you cannot abuse that offer. From everything our agents could gather, can you truthfully say you will work with him openly or keep using him to reach greater power?" There were 2 women dressed in simple white robes cinched with golden cords at their waists.
Unlike the rest, there was no feeling of intimacy but there was a connection. They were only Journeyman Tier Divine Realm cultivators but Thunder Child knew if so much as a scratch came to the pair, Lind Frey would be enraged.
"You 2 are ones to talk! How much did Lind suffer because you refused to help him?" The remaining human woman with a whip at her hips glared at the pair but the prismatic dragon woman smirked and bopped her on the head.
"Big Sis Shoti, you know he only is the man we love because they intervened. Lind said a long time ago they never imposed on him even when he ascended to the Divine Realm." Thunder Child felt shocked.
Intervention?! It was rare but considering the Fiends came from their realm, it was entirely possible Heaven and Earth became lax.
Normally, higher realm intervention had a very steep cost imposed on the one who attempted the action. It meant the karmic debt incurred by the soul affected would be multiplied against them!
It was an incredible risk!
How desperate had things been inside their realm? Worldblood Child was the first to find her voice.
"Now that he has ascended, does that not mean you are compelled to obey his will?" The hoarseness of her voice revealed how surprised she was. Heaven and Earth were fair but when it came to such actions, the consequences were clear.
Lind Frey had been an investment that clearly paid off. Whatever they had needed him for, he had done it and then some. The feeling Thunder Child felt was something they had not felt in until trillions of years.
The power of Heaven and Earth tied their lives to him! He was now the one in control!
The pair smiled with ease and shook their heads in unison. They were not related yet they seemed as close as sisters.
"Lind Frey practically screamed at the sky when he found out. He set us free. We are here because we choose to be. We are not family but we are thankfully friends." It was only at that moment that Thunder Child felt tears in her eyes.
Something broke in her. Her sisters noticed but did not understand the cause. The tears just kept coming and her path sparked as they hit the ground.
Her legs became weak and she was caught by them.
"Sister?!" Their worry and confusion was clear but she realized they just didn't see it yet. The room was full of many diverse beings. Many righteous cultivators only held to those morals when it was convenient.
If they wanted something or were overpowered, the finely crafted mask would fall away and expose the selfish being beneath.
She had seen it so many times yet the sincerity was right in front of them! Here was a man who did not just speak of ideals, he lived them! He had given more and more while knowing he was possibly fighting a losing battle.
Finally, he had apparently sacrificed everything to get a chance to save them all. Now, she saw he did not need to be treated with caution and suspicion, but honest words.
"I am afraid my sisters will be consumed by that Fiend. I am terrified that when we go to fight, he will catch us at the wrong moment and we will go into the eternal hell described by Lind Frey long ago." The words flowed out of her. They had held back but they stayed informed.
Their entire society knew the Fiend could kill them but it was Lind Frey that brought the brutal truth.
Lightning began to run in her veins and something snapped inside her. The fear she had been burying under her desperation to get his help as it was the final chance bubbled to the surface.
Her sisters finally understood as they began to cry as well. Eternal Realm cultivators took living for granted. They had forgotten the stark terror of the end of life. Now, it was back but it was so much worse.
A gentle hand suddenly pulled the 3 into a hug.
"We will kill the Bastard and you 3 are why I figured out how." Lind Frey had recovered enough to wake up and the group watched as he calmed the 3.
The scorches from the lightning did not bother him at all and Thunder Child felt it.
Hope actually bloomed in her heart! The 3 of them were like that for a long time but the explosion of hope filled them.
There was a chance to live!
