Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 1878 - 1877 - Disturbance

Patience was not something he lacked. The Great One had spent all of his life as a Celestial exhausting archives and ancient Ruins to find any solution to his bottleneck. No matter how hard he tried, there was nothing.

He would hit a ceiling and his life would run out. He had screamed at the Heavens but it ignored him. Lesser races were free to find opportunities or suddenly be blessed by Heaven and Earth to advance after being stuck for millions of years.

Only when his body died and his soul made it to the spirit world that he found a chance. He observed how rebirth actually worked and his massive efforts found it. There was a tiny chance.

He could not do it while as a Celestial but has a soul, he had the chance!

A Celestial could not possess others. It was one of the restrictions but no one had tried to make a body for them. The Qi they needed was anathema to most processes. For some reason, other Celestials had not bothered to even try which was another annoyance.

As a soul, however, he could create a body! So he tried and found why no one tried. Even when it got close, the perfect golden body would rip itself apart as only rebirth around a soul could make it work.

The very basic piece needed was the one thing he could not manipulate, his own soul.

His rage rose up and that was the moment he tossed it all away. He recalled watching the freely floating souls pulled into vortices and the seed sprang up. He needed a soul? Fine.

He would compensate with a resource no one messed with due to the massive karmic retribution awaiting them. He no longer cared.

In fact, he cursed it all and worked to do the most extreme shattering of the restraints on his soul. Heaven and Earth wanted to wipe him away but he refused to go into oblivion to be the new vessel for someone else!

He had succeeded beyond his wildest dreams and fell lower than his worst nightmares. He had been correct that he could break the restrictions but he could not avoid punishment.

He had worked it out and while he did not grasp the full shape of it, he would live. That was all that mattered to him. He would not die!

A soul cannot cry, even in the spirit world, but that confirmed success brought him close. Then, the spirits tried to stop him!

He had trusted some to help him find answers and admittedly, they were curious. If a Celestial could return via a constructed body, it would be worthwhile to know. Celestials were the closest to the foundational truth of the world.

They manipulated it directly with their True Qi and learned how the fundamental forces worked via the lens of their past lives. The various worlds they once lived on gave comparisons and parallels other cultivators could not.

It allowed Heaven and Earth to grow stronger as the wisdom of the Celestials became a part of it.

That allowed more powerful treasures and more potent Daos or Mysteries to be born. He also knew it had something to do with those defective 6 elementals but the Great One dismissed them out of hand.

He had been a naive fool.

When they came for him, it was already too late. He had shredded souls to refine into his new body. The process was surprisingly easy, yet he felt the Wrath of Heaven lock onto him.

He sneered as power flowed into him right before he broke the world. There was no precedent but even he had been caught off guard. His pristine golden body he had been building actually became his old human one in appearance!

Further, the skin became dark ash grey with white hair and eyes that became disturbing pits even he could not look at easily. He frowned as he had hated how he looked in his first life.

Everyone had always told him he was out of his mind when he asked any girl out no matter what they looked like. Some were kind, but most were quite dismissive. He had died alone in his one bedroom apartment, murdered for the paltry belongings he had.

The anger that his second life was being taken from him at the same time only stoked the rage from that first life even more.

He has screamed that he would never bow to systems that wanted him to die! He found he could pull more souls to get stronger and in that tug of war, something catastrophic broke.

All the resistance fell away but he also suddenly heard trillions of screams in his mind. He nearly fell into an abyss of pain when he instinctively silenced half of them.

It was only much later that he realized that all Celestials were connected on a fundamental level. When he broke the very rules of Heaven and Earth, he took the whole race with him.

By doing so, he got a kind of reward. He was not the locus of all their race and he could absorb them at any time! A deranged smile had spread as he felt the power flowing in his veins as he emerged into one of the Immortal Worlds.

It was short lived as Heaven and Earth tried to reject him once again!

What followed was many billions of years of fighting the very world until its rules could no longer resist and he was free to hunt under the sun.

The only obstacle was the conditions for his ascension. Unlike any other cultivators, Fiends had an almost impossible path. Each major realm was one thing but even the tiers in a realm had the same exponential requirement of souls.

It was only when he reached the Radiant Tier that he realized how horrifying his ascension would be. Yet, the Great One did not care. All Heaven and Earth had to do was let him live and all of the death could have been avoided.

It was their fault!

Still, he had begun to use his connections to other Fiends to build horrific engines to refine entire Immortal Worlds. He even found the one where he had been reborn but all his plans were foiled there.

It still enraged him yet it was a minor thing. He knew the full truth after he broke the rules. He knew about the Eternal Realm and the true freedom it would grant him!

It had all gone well until it failed. Lind Frey then seemed to come out of nowhere. He had discarded the threat until it was far too late.

How could he not recognize the revenge of Heaven and Earth given flesh! He just happened to find a wretch of a mongrel that could give him more chances and resolved the issues with 6 elementals while gaining insane power? The Great One would believe that when a flying pig flew over old Earth.

So, when he realized the Talent of the fox had a limit, he reverted to his basic tactic. Out live his enemy and take all he deserved!

Yet, it had not gone as planned. While he had confirmed the Eternal Realm freed him from many of his issues, he knew it was not complete. There was one more step to be truly free! He also felt it.

The stench of Heaven and Earth was in that strange space the holds floated. It was hiding but it was there! It was also as strong or maybe stronger than him when he first emerged.

He had killed hundreds of Eternal Realm cultivators before Lind Frey trapped him. For some reason, he knew even if he took all of the living Eternal Realm cultivators, it would not be enough. He needed to consume everything.

He had assumed once he was free, it would be too late to stop him but the thrice cursed Lind Frey did something and his harmony had drastically changed. He somewhat regretted not absorbing his echo from the last cycle.

Still, he had died. It was a strange feeling knowing a version of him died but he did not care.

Now, he was floating in the dark because something was wrong. He had been safely inside his construct when all the souls in his dantian seemed to grow stronger! The refinement process had been slowed!

He had tried to speed it back up but it did not work! What was going on?!

He then felt something shift outside but he could not locate the source. What had happened? He knew his 'message' had been delivered. The corpse retained part of the soul to keep it intact.

Once it collapsed, the piece inside him felt it.

He knew Lind Frey would not rush out on a suicidal run but no matter what, he knew it was impossible to gain power quickly at the Eternal Realm. Especially after the one that caged him, he had a good gauge of how much time Lind Frey would need to even come close to his power level.

It would take billions of years and even then, he would sneer. Unlike the others, he did not suffer from struggles to grow stronger. He just needed more souls!

He could feel that the bottleneck was not impenetrable. It just was insanely high in its requirements. Once he stepped beyond, he would reach the true world.

He knew it from the secrets he had scraped away from his resurrection. The cultivation world was just a grinder for the many hamsters on a wheel. They were all going to die one day one way or the other unless they fully escaped.

He kept trying to find the source of the disturbance but nothing came back. The hint of Heaven and Earth was still there but it was impossible to pin down.

"Where are you, Lind Frey? Let's end this and I will finally be free." Part of his bottleneck was tied to his origin world. So long as it existed, he could not ascend. He had to break it down once more and absorb it.

He gave up eventually as he knew his prey had to come to him. The end game was already in his favor but he would not assume his enemy would be weaker. His harmony was tenacious and refused to let him adapt to it.

He went back to preparing. There was only one way to get to him and that was through his construct. He would make impossible to do anything but fight on his terms and if that was the only way, he won!
