Chapter 361: Chapter 332: A Twist of Fate
By now, if one were to look down from the heavens, the entirety of the Chu Capital Inner City had transformed into a deathly silent Demon Realm.
A True Demon, at least of the Golden Core Realm, had gone berserk. For Chu Capital City, where the highest combat power was merely Foundation Establishment, this was clearly a cataclysm of apocalyptic proportions.
Amidst such devastation, the merest aftershocks were enough to annihilate swathes of the ten thousand or so surviving Cultivators.
Blood flowed in rivers, and a dead silence blanketed the entire city.
The clamor of the past was utterly extinguished, leaving only a single, roaring True Demon to continue its violent rampage.
Xu Changqing lay collapsed amidst the ruins, his once-white robes stained crimson. His face was pale, and he was powerless to even move.
Within the Blood Pool, now buried beneath collapsed earth, Chu Mu clung to a sliver of consciousness after suffering one devastating blow after another. But for him, even the slightest movement was now an impossible luxury.
He could only lie paralyzed on the Blood Pool’s altar as the viscous blood churned, ceaselessly washing over his mangled body.
The faint tremors traveling through the earth made it clear that the Demon Bull’s violent rampage was still ongoing.
However, he was clearly powerless to do anything about the outside world. All he could do was pray for that Residual Soul to succeed.
The True Demon’s emergence was a certainty. His only hope was that this new True Demon would not pose a threat to him.
Right now, he was a lamb to the slaughter!
He could clearly perceive the utter devastation within his body.
In his decades on the Immortal Path, this was the first time he had ever been in such peril. His injuries, too, were more severe than anything he had ever experienced.
In his Sea of Consciousness, the Divine Soul Saber—the very source of his Saber Intent—had lost all of its former tangible, metallic quality. It flickered in and out of existence, now almost transparent!
It was like a candle in the wind, liable to be extinguished at any moment.
He had used Saber Intent to forcibly control Sword Intent—and a Sword Intent that originated from a technique left by a Sword Dao Nascent Soul, no less. The gap between the two was simply far, far too great!
His Divine Soul Saber was on the verge of shattering, and the inside of his body was in a similar state of ruin.
Setting aside his festering external wounds, his Spirit Veins and Dantian had been nearly shattered by the terrifying backlash from the Sword Intent!
Even the simple act of circulating his Magical Power felt as arduous as crossing a thousand chasms.
’I need Thousand Cloud Ginseng, Luolei Flowers, and Soul-Calming Grass...’
He thought to himself, drawing upon his profound knowledge of alchemy. One by one, plans to treat his various injuries began to take shape in his mind.
His wounds were far too severe to be healed by ordinary medicine.
For an ordinary Foundation Establishment Cultivator, injuries like these would have spelled the end of their Immortal Path.
He wasn’t much better off, either. While he had accumulated a good number of rare Spiritual Objects during his years in Jingmen, his own rate of consumption had been just as massive.
’Hm?’
Just as he was lost in thought, a strange sensation suddenly emerged. He registered the anomaly, and his expression changed drastically!
The viscous blood churning in the Blood Pool was now slowly seeping into his body as it washed over him!
He instinctively tried to mobilize his Divine Sense and Magical Power to seal off his body, but the searing pain and blockages that immediately followed turned this instinct into a futile hope.
A steady stream of blood poured into his body through his countless wounds. An act that would normally require but a single thought to stop had now become an impossible dream.
The purpose of the Blood Pool was obvious.
It was the culmination of a decades-long plot by the True Demon, created through blood sacrifice for the sole purpose of repairing its Demon Body.
How many people had died in the calamity that had befallen Chu Capital up to this point?
Tens of thousands of Cultivators had perished in the demonic chaos.
Among them were even two Golden Core experts!
It was also through this Blood Pool that the Residual Soul had been able to probe the True Demon’s Body.
Through his Divine Sense Perception, he felt that once the blood invaded his body, it acted like some kind of miraculous Spirit Elixir. Under the effects of the viscous blood, the festering wounds on his body were actually healing and closing with extreme speed.
This was true for his external wounds, and it was also true for the damage to his Meridians and Dantian—injuries he had considered a far more vexing problem.
The blood even possessed a considerable healing effect on the wounds to his Divine Soul.
If he hadn’t known the true purpose of the Blood Pool, he would have thought he’d stumbled upon some heaven-sent opportunity, a legendary Spirit Elixir!
Chu Mu’s expression was grim. The purpose of the Blood Pool was to repair a Demon Body.
Though they were both forms of repair, and though it was healing his injuries.
But he was no demon!
Within his Divine Sense Perception, just as palpable as the healing effects, was the dense evil and chaos contained within the blood!
And along with this healing, it seeped into every part of his body and Divine Soul like a sponge absorbing water!
Chu Mu’s expression was incredibly grim, but he was completely powerless to stop it. He could only let this process of healing and corruption continue.
’It’s not just repairing and healing...’
After observing for only a moment, another answer surfaced in Chu Mu’s mind.
This viscous blood wasn’t just healing his injuries—it was also strengthening his body!
Dantian, Meridians, organs, bones, flesh and blood...
It was a ubiquitous process of healing and strengthening, and simultaneously, a ubiquitous demonic corruption.
’The Energy level is too high...’
Chu Mu understood. The Blood Pool’s purpose was to repair the Demon Body for that True Demon.
And that True Demon’s Cultivation was obviously far, far higher than his.
What was ordinary healing for the True Demon was, for him, clearly much more than just that.
’Spiritual Radiance!’
He called out silently in his mind. Under the Spiritual Radiance Blessing, his thoughts, which had been in slight disarray from the trauma to his Divine Soul, instantly stabilized.
The blood invading his body, the healing of his wounds, the corruption of the Demon Nature—all of it was laid bare in the most minute detail under the perception granted by the Spiritual Radiance Blessing.
’In half a quarter-hour, I should be able to circulate some Magical Power...’
Chu Mu reasoned to himself that at the rate the blood was working, his injuries should be partially healed in half a quarter-hour.
Once his injuries had eased even slightly, he could forcibly execute a Divine Technique to seal his body off from the blood.
This thought brought Chu Mu a small measure of relief. Aided by the Spiritual Radiance Effect, he continued to meticulously observe every single minute change within his body.
He wasn’t too worried about the encroaching Demon Nature. With the methods at his disposal, both his Great Sun True Flame and his Saber Intent were practically perfect counters to this type of corruption.
His worry stemmed from the... mutation that this corruption would bring!
He was very familiar with this kind of mutation.
He had seen it before when he performed the bloodline transplant on Wangcai. The numerous experiments leading up to the transplant, as well as the procedure itself, had all been manifestations of this kind of mutation.
’Is there... True Demon Bloodline in this?’
A heavy feeling settled in Chu Mu’s heart. It seemed the Blood Pool actually contained it!
If he remembered correctly, all the blood spilled in Chu Capital City had been channeled into this Blood Pool through some unknown means.
Whether it was the Demon Cultivator he had slain who had transformed his Demon Body, or the fallen... Golden Core Demon Cultivator, or even the horn he had severed from the True Demon...
All of it was connected to that one True Demon!
If events had unfolded normally, all of this would have ultimately been devoured by that True Demon, becoming its bloody sustenance.
But after this unexpected turn of events, he had been gravely wounded and fallen onto the altar. Through a bizarre twist of fate, he had taken the True Demon’s place...
