Chapter 369: Chapter 340: Northern and Southern Differences, Fulfilling the Agreement

Beneath the mountain range stood a majestic city.

The characters for "Dubhe" were carved into the gatehouse. The city gates stood wide open, revealing a clamor of bustling crowds.

As a newcomer to the Cultivation Immortal Realm, everything was novel and wondrous to the young boy, and he couldn’t stop looking around.

Chu Mu paused before the city gate, his gaze fixed on the characters for "Dubhe" on the gatehouse. What he had learned about the Longevity Sect back in the Chu Capital resurfaced in his mind.

The Longevity Sect was situated in the Longevity Mountain Range.

Dubhe City, which lay before him, was one of the seven cities of the Longevity Sect.

These so-called "seven cities of Longevity" were seven marketplaces that encircled the entire Longevity Mountain Range. In a way, they also served as the Garrison Cities for the Longevity Sect.

Dubhe, Merak, Phecda, Megrez Realm, Vega, Kaiyang, and Shaking Light.

Named after the seven stars of the Big Dipper, the seven cities encircled the domain of the Longevity Sect.

Legend had it that this symbolized the Longevity Sect’s wish to endure for all eternity, just like the Big Dipper.

However, another legend in the Cultivation Immortal Realm claimed that the Beidou Seven Cities were, in fact, a single, magnificent Grand Array spanning thousands of miles that protected the Longevity Sect at its heart.

Of course, it was impossible to know if this claim was true.

After all, in tens of thousands of years, no crisis had ever pushed the Longevity Sect to the absolute brink.

So, whether it was true or not remained a mystery.

But the prosperity of the Beidou Seven Cities was renowned throughout the entire Great Chu Cultivation Immortal World.

With the Longevity Sect’s million Cultivators, its legacy spanning tens of thousands of years, and its dominant position in Great Chu, the prosperity of the Beidou Seven Cities was entirely predictable.

Chu Mu glanced around. Throngs of Cultivators bustled beneath the towering city gate. He noticed that as other Cultivators approached the gate where he stood, they would instinctively slow their pace and lower their voices.

"Senior, is this your first time in Dubhe City?"

As they reached the gate, a Longevity Sect disciple immediately approached to greet them.

"As per city regulations, all first-time visitors must register. If I may trouble you to come this way, Senior."

"Alright."

Chu Mu nodded, beckoned to Wangcai, and followed the Longevity Sect disciple to the side of the gate.

Just a day after the incident in the Chu Capital, Xu Changqing had sent him several sound transmissions. The first informed him of the subsequent developments in the capital, and the second was about the cancellation of his Wanted Order.

In other words, the Wanted Order he had shouldered for so many years, along with his status as an Evil Cultivator, had been rescinded after the demonic turmoil in the Chu Capital.

As such, he could stroll openly into Dubhe City without any issue.

After a simple registration process, in exchange for which he received a ring that served as proof of identity, Chu Mu led the boy into the city.

"Battles are forbidden within the city. You can go and wander around by yourself. If anything happens, just send a sound transmission."

Chu Mu handed the boy a Sound Transmission Talisman and a Spirit Stone Bag, adding a casual word of advice.

"Don’t worry, Senior. I understand."

The boy replied at once.

Chu Mu gave a slight nod, and the boy hurried off, unable to wait.

He scanned the street. Pavilions stretched into the distance, shimmering with brilliant light. Shops lined the avenues, and at a glance, it seemed one could find anything imaginable.

Chu Mu took out his Sound Transmission Order, sent a message, and then casually entered a tavern by the street, ordering a pot of Spirit Wine before taking a seat.

Like every other Marketplace he had visited, this rare sort of place where Cultivators could relax was extremely boisterous.

Numerous Low Tier Cultivators sat in small groups, discussing everything under the sun. All sorts of amusing anecdotes could be overheard.

A swig of Spirit Wine went down his throat, a fiery sting traveling down to his stomach where it finally erupted. Searing heat swept through him as if he were in a furnace—an utterly invigorating experience.

Chu Mu had only been drinking alone for a few moments when hurried footsteps sounded from downstairs. Respectfully led by a waiter, Xu Changqing ascended the stairs.

"I happened to be in the city on business."

Xu Changqing explained, his words as terse as ever, as he took a seat at the table.

"Fellow Daoist, if you’d arrived a few days later, our meeting would likely have had to be postponed."

"What happened?"

Chu Mu asked, then explained, "I’ve been teaching the son of an old friend for three years, almost completely cut off from the world. I’m unaware of recent events."

"It’s nothing too major."

"After the incident with the True Demon, the front lines were quiet for a while. But recently, the fires of war have been rekindled..."

Chu Mu asked tentatively, "Has the Vast Sea returned to the Righteous Alliance?"

Hearing this, Xu Changqing’s expression grew a little more solemn. He shook his head. "They haven’t openly broken ties yet, but they’re close."

"For the past few years, the Vast Sea has just been going through the motions in the war against the Righteous Alliance. They either put in minimal effort or use all sorts of excuses to delay. They’ve even used excuses to put off paying their annual tribute to the Sect, and haven’t paid it in years."

At this, Xu Changqing’s voice turned cold. "They’re playing both sides, hoping to be the fisherman who profits while others fight. Everyone in the world can see their intentions!"

Chu Mu frowned. Seeing Xu Changqing’s grim expression, he changed the subject. "Is there any news about that True Demon?"

"He vanished without a trace after the incident in the Chu Capital."

"One of the Sect’s Supreme elders personally performed a Tracking Technique. All we learned was that the person headed north. He should have left the Great Chu Cultivation Immortal World long ago and is now somewhere on the Grassland."

As he spoke, Xu Changqing’s gaze fell on Wangcai, who was lying nearby. He was visibly surprised when he sensed its Cultivation had already reached the Tier Two Middle Stage. "This is your Spirit Beast, Fellow Daoist?"

"Yes,"

Chu Mu nodded and beckoned with his hand. Wangcai immediately shifted its body and rested its head against him.

"It’s not easy to raise a common, mortal dog into a Tier Two Middle Stage Demon Beast!"

Xu Changqing remarked with some emotion, "This beast is truly fortunate to be able to follow you, Fellow Daoist."

"The Hundred Treasures Pavilion in the city will be holding an auction soon. I’ve heard that several Enlightenment Pills will be up for sale. If you’re interested, Fellow Daoist, you might want to attend."

"Enlightenment Pills?"

Chu Mu raised an eyebrow, his interest clearly piqued.
