Eternal Life Begins with Learning
Chapter 440 - 407: Recovery and Outside the CityChapter 440: Chapter 407: Recovery and Outside the City
The True Demon was furious. As his Demonic Qi churned, the terrifying aura of a Tier Four Nascent Soul surged forth.
But soon, this violent aura suddenly receded. The True Demon returned to a calm and composed state, as if his sudden outburst of rage had been nothing but an illusion.
Chu Mu lowered his head, showing no reaction.
Silence returned to the area outside the massive city.
The True Demon stood with his hands behind his back. The boy remained dazed and foolish, while Chu Mu had already closed his eyes to rest, seemingly oblivious to the dangers lurking everywhere.
Yin winds howled across the Corpse Mountain Blood Sea. A strange, inexplicable fragrance still lingered in the air, and faint roars and low moans could be heard, as if right beside one’s ears.
Several days passed in a flash.
At dawn on the third day, Li Xiu and Xu Ning finally reappeared from within the Corpse Mountain Blood Sea.
"Senior, I have fulfilled my mission."
Li Xiu presented a Storage Ring, his deathly pale face flushed with an unnatural red.
"Once this matter is concluded, I will surely help you resume your path."
A look of approval on his face, the True Demon clapped Li Xiu on the shoulder before turning to Xu Ning. "Have you found a suitable bloodline?"
"I have, Senior. It’s a Succubus bloodline."
Xu Ning replied respectfully. With a wave of her hand, a voluptuous body appeared before them.
"Good."
The True Demon nodded. "This place is relatively safe. Find a secluded spot here to begin the Refinement of the bloodline and transform into a demon."
"As you command."
The two acknowledged the order and promptly withdrew.
The True Demon held the Storage Ring, pondering for a moment. Then, with a leap, he was instantly hovering above the Corpse Mountain Blood Sea. He reached out with one hand, and as his fingers curled into a grasping motion, a massive, illusory claw dozens of yards wide took shape.
The previously calm Corpse Mountain Blood Sea erupted into turmoil. Amidst a cacophony of moans and roars, the giant claw descended, shattering the corpse mountain and annihilating the blood sea.
Countless phantom-like Demon Souls, bizarrely shaped, shrieked and struggled, but they could not escape the claw’s Power of Imprisonment. They were brutally ripped from the Corpse Mountain Blood Sea.
"Bind!"
The True Demon roared, his voice like the boom of Celestial Thunder. As the sound wave swept out, illusory chains formed one after another, coiling around and binding the Demon Souls.
The True Demon’s figure flickered. As countless chains swirled behind him, an endless number of phantom Demon Souls were dragged out of the Corpse Mountain Blood Sea.
The Demon Souls struggled, their shrieks piercing, their whispers insidious. They morphed into a thousand different forms, a chaotic dance of demons, yet remained firmly bound by the chains, unable to break free in the slightest.
The True Demon’s figure flickered again. One by one, the Demon Souls were slammed into the ground as if they were being driven like stakes. The True Demon hammered them in, leaving only faint, strange patterns on the ground.
In just about a quarter of an hour, the demonic phantoms were all gone. The ground in a hundred-meter radius was now covered in a web of strange, intersecting lines. As wisps of Demonic Qi flickered along them, the True Demon reached out, and the dazed boy standing to the side was pulled to the very center of the bizarre patterns.
He waved his hand again, and a massive True Demon corpse landed on the edge of the strange patterns.
The True Demon formed hand seals. As one Technique after another entered the True Demon corpse, wisps of crimson light began to appear on its body. They then flowed along the intersecting strange patterns on the ground, converging on the dazed boy.
"Young friend, refine it with your True Flame!"
the True Demon bellowed. Chu Mu finally reacted, but as he looked at the scene before him, he found himself hesitating.
’This array is bizarre, but it’s not hard to see that it’s for the boy’s bloodline transformation. The True Demon captured Demon Souls for the Array Formation, so if I’m not mistaken, this array should also have the effect of nurturing the Divine Soul.’
’The True Demon is currently presiding over this array. Judging by how much he values this boy, if he can’t free himself from it...’
Chu Mu’s first instinct was to flee. They had already dropped all pretenses; he didn’t believe for a second that this True Demon would be merciful enough to let him go after achieving his goal.
"Get over here!"
But before Chu Mu could act on his impulse, an illusory chain shot out and extinguished his thought of escape.
Bound by the chain, Chu Mu got a taste of the same treatment the Demon Souls had received. Imprisoned and restrained, he was forced to stand in the center of the array.
"The power of this array comes from bloodline and Divine Soul."
"Use your True Flame for the Refinement. Make sure all Demon Nature is purged and kept away from Li’Er."
Chu Mu remained silent. With a thought, the transmuted Great Sun True Flame emerged and floated before him. He stared at the True Flame, then turned to the dazed, unmoving boy, his gaze profound.
His expression impassive, he waved a hand, and the blazing Great Sun True Flame scattered like a goddess scattering flowers, landing in the center of each strange inscription.
Seeing Chu Mu’s actions, the True Demon’s expression changed drastically at first. But then, as if realizing something, a look of joy spread across his face. "Good, good! Excellent! Refine it just like that..."
Chu Mu ignored the True Demon’s changing expression. Under his Spiritual Radiance Blessing, while his True Flame tempered the bloodline and the Power of the Divine Soul, he divided his attention. Taking advantage of his True Flame’s presence throughout the entire Array, he began to examine its construction.
He didn’t care what this array was for.
What he cared about was the True Demon who had set it up.
Had the True Demon constructed this array with masterful ease, or had he simply been copying a blueprint?
The answer to that question was quite important for him.
If he was just copying, it meant this True Demon didn’t know much about the Dao of Arrays.
Once they entered the Demon City, if an opportunity arose, he might just have a chance of survival.
But if the True Demon had created it with ease, it meant he was well-versed in the Dao of Arrays.
In that case, he would have to shelve his idea of using any remaining arrays in the city against him.
After a subtle investigation, the answer became very clear.
Or rather, the rigid and deliberate nature of someone copying a blueprint was plainly evident in this Grand Array.
Even though he didn’t understand this specific array, a quick look revealed numerous Array Prohibition Inscriptions that could have been simplified.
Chu Mu pressed his lips together. His expression unchanging, he continued to manipulate the transmuted Great Sun True Flame, helping the True Demon with the Refinement of the bloodline and the Power of the Divine Soul.
After being refined and purified by the True Flame, the surging power of the bloodline and Divine Soul followed the intersecting, strange patterns and converged at the center of the Array Prohibition, completely enveloping the dazed boy.
Without a doubt, this was a massive stroke of fortune for the dazed boy.
The bloodline power of a True Demon and the Power of the Divine Soul from countless Demon Souls were all converging upon the boy, thanks to the array’s function and Chu Mu’s own tempering.
If the boy could thoroughly absorb such immense and pure power, reaching Foundation Establishment on the spot would likely be a simple feat.
The Array Prohibition flowed and the True Flame flickered. This process continued for nearly a full day and night before finally ceasing.
The Array Prohibition dimmed. The towering True Demon corpse had shriveled into a dried husk. In the center of the array, a large, blood-red cocoon had formed, completely encasing the boy from view.
The moment the Array Prohibition dissipated, the True Demon rushed forward impatiently. He anxiously peeled away the cocoon’s skin, revealing the boy’s naked body, which glowed with a crystalline, blood-red luster, like a piece of exquisite crimson jade.
"Li’Er!" the True Demon called out, his voice filled with apprehension.
"Grand... Grandpa..."
The boy spoke with difficulty as he opened his eyes. The once dazed, vacant gaze now held a spark of intelligence.
"Good boy, my good boy..."
The True Demon’s voice trembled as he gently caressed the boy’s cheek.
"Grandpa, am I still alive?"
"You are, you’re still alive... Don’t worry, Li’Er. With Grandpa here, no one can ever harm you!"
The True Demon pulled the boy into an embrace, tears streaming down his old face, completely devoid of the dignity and dominance expected of a Nascent Soul True Demon.
Chu Mu watched this touching scene of grandfatherly love, his gaze lingering on the boy. ’Early Stage of Foundation Establishment Cultivation, his Divine Soul has just solidified. With his Cultivation having just advanced, he’ll need a long time to stabilize it.’
As thoughts raced through his mind, Chu Mu’s gaze turned profound. He lowered his head slightly, and a cold glint appeared in the depths of his eyes...
...
Several more days passed before Li Xiu and Xu Ning emerged from their seclusion.
Outside the massive city, the five of them gathered. The Nascent Soul True Demon was naturally at their head, with the boy following closely at his side as usual. However, thanks to the Grand Array, the boy’s mind was now clear and his Cultivation had soared, making him completely different from before.
Behind them were the couple, Li Xiu and Xu Ning.
When the four of them had entered this part of the Demon Realm, there had only been one True Demon and one Demon Cultivator.
Now, however, it could be said that all four of them were True Demons.
The only differences were their True Demon Bloodlines and their levels of Cultivation.
Chu Mu, a proper Immortal Dao Cultivator with pure Immortal Dao Magical Power, stood among the demons, looking strangely and utterly out of place.
"Let’s go."
At the True Demon’s command, the group headed toward a breach in the city wall up ahead.
As they drew closer, the Array Prohibition Inscriptions of the Demon Realm carved into the city wall became increasingly clear.
Compared to the vigilance of the other demons, Chu Mu appeared quite relaxed. He seemed to be looking around idly, but his gaze never truly left the Array Prohibition Inscriptions on the wall.
Under his Spiritual Radiance Blessing, the Array Prohibition Inscriptions on the wall were being rapidly analyzed within Chu Mu’s Sea of Consciousness, compared against the inscriptions he already knew.
The continuous flashes of insight once again proved the heaven-defying power of his Spiritual Radiance Blessing.
Seemingly wary of any remaining Array Prohibitions in the stronghold, the group advanced slowly.
The city was only a few hundred li from the edge of the Corpse Mountain Blood Sea, yet in nearly a full hour, the group had covered less than a hundred li.
Chu Mu was happy with the slow pace. By infusing his eyes with Magical Power, while it wasn’t on the level of a Divine Spiritual Gaze, he could still clearly make out the Array Prohibition Inscriptions on the towering city wall without much difficulty.
An entire hour under his Spiritual Radiance Blessing was more than enough time for him to thoroughly study the Array Prohibition Inscriptions on the wall.
With each successive flash of insight, the remaining Array Prohibition Inscriptions on the wall slowly began to connect in Chu Mu’s mind, forming a faint network.
’Slaughter... and detection?’
Chu Mu glanced at the True Demon walking at the very front and slowed his pace slightly.
’The range should be five hundred li?’
’No, no, the Array Prohibition is incomplete and not functioning smoothly. It should be about a hundred li? Or maybe you have to get much closer to be detected?’
’It shouldn’t be completely disabled...’
The thought flashed through his mind and was gone. Chu Mu’s Divine Sense had already dipped into his Storage Ring, where numerous defensive measures he had prepared long ago were now ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice...
