Chapter 451: Chapter 416: Driving Straight In
The sword’s light was extinguished, and the hundred-zhang Ancient Halberd came crashing down.
Just as it was about to strike, a hand materialized from the void. The palm, as if carved from jade, lifted slightly and actually stopped the cataclysmic descent of the hundred-zhang Ancient Halberd.
PUFF!
There was no earth-shattering collision, only a faint, muffled sound.
The hundred-zhang Ancient Halberd silently shattered, dissolving into countless motes of inky-black light. The specks scattered and rained down from the sky, resembling a beautiful meteor shower in the gloom.
Chu Mu froze for a moment. His gaze shifted to the owner of the hand—a man in a Gilded Dragon Robe, as majestic as the Celestial Emperor.
Then, with a gentle wave of that jade-like hand, an invisible force swept up his utterly depleted body.
The city full of Demon Puppets rapidly receded from Chu Mu’s sight. In the blink of an eye, the True Demon’s towering hundred-zhang form shrank to a faint silhouette before vanishing completely.
When the rushing scenery of the Demon Realm stopped, his depleted body was back on solid ground. Before him was the Spatial Rift, Demonic Qi billowing from it like a tide.
Chu Mu stared blankly in the direction of the Demon City, but it was nowhere in sight. He could only see the roiling Demonic Qi. The great battle... was clearly still raging.
After a long moment, Chu Mu finally seemed to regain his senses.
’Was I... just saved by that man in the Dragon Robe?’
Chu Mu didn’t understand.
’There was no reason, no connection between us...’
’Why would he save my life?’
His mind raced, full of questions.
But right now, he didn’t dare to linger.
He swallowed a Divine Shadow Pill from his private stash and, dragging his utterly spent body, staggered into the Spatial Rift.
In an instant, the gloomy, silent sky of the Demon Realm was replaced by a boundless sea of fire and churning Demonic Qi.
Chu Mu used his last ounce of Magical Power to pull himself from the sea of magma. The moment he was out, his depleted body instinctively began to draw in the dense surrounding Spiritual Qi.
The bright sun hung high in the sky, a gentle breeze rustled through the lush greenery that met his eyes. Chu Mu collapsed to the ground and couldn’t help but smile. It was a smile from the heart, but on his bloody, mangled face, it looked tragically bleak.
After resting for only a moment, he knew he couldn’t linger. The memory of the True Demon defying a Thunder Tribulation to drag him from the Secret Realm into the Demon Realm was still vivid.
He forced himself up and staggered a few steps. As a Golden Core Realm cultivator practicing both Dharma and Body Cultivation, with an Extraordinary Body that had undergone multiple transformations, he now found himself collapsing helplessly. He struggled several times, but even just climbing to his feet felt like an impossible dream.
He grimaced, and blood seeped from the corners of his mouth, adding a fresh crimson sheen to his already blood-soaked clothes.
After lying paralyzed on the ground for a long while, he finally managed to summon a sliver of Divine Sense. He directed it toward the Storage Ring on his finger. An act that normally took a mere thought now felt as difficult as scaling the heavens.
After a long struggle, he barely managed to guide the wisp of Divine Sense into his Storage Ring.
His Divine Sense scanned the inside of the ring. The Storage Space, once packed to the brim, was now almost completely empty, save for a small pile of rare Spirit Materials and Spirit Medicine.
In a corner, seemingly forgotten, lay a Tier One Bamboo Dragonfly Puppet he had refined at some point.
Chu Mu breathed a sigh of relief. Enduring the excruciating pain, he used that wisp of Divine Sense to pull the Bamboo Dragonfly Puppet out from his Storage Space.
He forced the Array Prohibition active and sealed a command into the Bamboo Dragonfly Puppet’s control core.
Once activated, the Bamboo Dragonfly Puppet received its command and immediately shot into the air. Then, as if locking onto a target, it darted underneath Chu Mu’s body.
The puppet, merely a few inches long, somehow managed to lift the utterly exhausted Chu Mu onto its back. Its wings whirred as it flew deeper into the Secret Realm.
Chu Mu lay like a sack of potatoes on the puppet’s back, too weak to move. He had no strength left to even check the state of his cultivation or his injuries. Leaving his fate to the heavens, he forced down a few Healing Elixirs before the overwhelming exhaustion from his Divine Soul pulled him into unconsciousness.
「An unknown number of days passed.」
When Chu Mu awoke, he found himself lying in a cave.
The cave was spacious and bare.
At the entrance of the cave, the Bamboo Dragonfly Puppet stood as still as a statue.
He wasn’t particularly surprised. The command he had given the Bamboo Dragonfly Puppet was to find a safe location, set him down, and then guard him until he awoke.
The Bamboo Dragonfly Puppet was built for reconnaissance. Although carrying him through the rugged mountains was a burden, its excellent scouting abilities made finding a safe place to drop him off a relatively easy task.
He subconsciously raised his hand, intending to check the puppet’s surveillance records. But in the next instant, an indescribable, piercing pain from the depths of his Divine Soul jolted him back to reality.
He tried to shift his body slightly. It was a simple task for any mortal, but for him, it was still as difficult as ascending to the heavens.
’A Demon Puppet Array strong enough to fight a Nascent Soul cultivator... and I, who had only just reached the Golden Core Realm, had taken two direct hits from that hundred-zhang Ancient Halberd...’
’It was a heroic feat!’
’But the price...’
’...was steep. Very steep.’
With extreme difficulty, Chu Mu managed to mobilize a trace of his Divine Sense to perceive the state of his Essence, Qi, and Spirit.
After taking those two blows, his physical body was on the verge of annihilation.
His Meridians were shattered, his Dantian was damaged, and his blood essence was completely depleted. Even his Golden Core, to which his very life was bound, was covered in a web of fine cracks.
’The only good thing, perhaps... was that I’m still alive!’
After lying there stunned for a long time, Chu Mu seemed to remember something. He struggled to direct his Divine Sense into his Sea of Consciousness. His Sea of Consciousness was nearly depleted, and all over his dim Divine Soul, a complex web of Demon Patterns had been sealed.
These sealed Demon Patterns seemed to be alive, rapidly spreading to every corner of his Divine Soul.
The edge of his Sword Intent remained dazzlingly bright. It seemed to instinctively reject the invasion of the Demon Patterns. Within his Sea of Consciousness, the Sword of Sword Intent would tremble from time to time, releasing wisps of sharpness as if trying to destroy the seals. But ultimately, it was unable to truly strike them.
