Eternal Life: I Can Sell Everything

Chapter 327 - 320: Demonic Winds in a Small Temple

Under the faint moonlight, Song Ciwan sat cross-legged in her room, idly listening to the strange happenings in the small village.

She heard the white shadow patiently consoling Little Yao Family. "You’re worrying for nothing. What have you even done? You don’t have to do anything. At most, you’ll just come up and assist me a bit when I’m performing the pocket trick on stage. That’s it. If something goes wrong, who could possibly blame you?"

Little Yao Family was still worried. "But what if they blame you..."

The white shadow stated flatly, "What would that have to do with me? I’ll be on stage performing!"

Little Yao Family patted her chest and exhaled. "That’s true. In the end, it has nothing to do with either of us."

The white shadow finally nodded. "Exactly. Just remember one thing—you must grip that item tightly and absolutely cannot lose it. If you lose that thing, the one who goes into the pocket and can’t get out will be you! Don’t blame me for what happens to you then..."

Little Yao Family immediately reached out a slender, pale hand to gently cover the white shadow’s lips. In a soft, low voice, she said, "How could you ever harm me? Don’t say such things! Brother Yun..."

Her final "Brother Yun" was spoken with a trembling lilt, like a drop of spring water perched on the very tip of a tender blade of grass.

The spring water trembled, and the blade of grass bobbed up and down, yet the droplet never fell, each near-miss striking a chord in the listener’s heart.

The white shadow’s expression immediately softened, and his voice grew gentle. "Yes, how could I possibly harm you? That being the case, you don’t need to worry. Go on back and rest. Once this is all over, you’ll get three hundred taels of silver. I won’t short you a single coin."

Little Yao Family’s eyelashes fluttered as she said, "Brother Yun, you know how I feel about you. When have I ever cared about something as worldly as silver? In my heart... I’m doing this only for you, Brother Yun..."

Each time she called him "Brother Yun," her voice was filled with a soul-stirring passion. The white shadow sighed and finally took her hand in his.

He brought her hand to his lips for a gentle touch and whispered, "I understand your feelings, my dear. Go back now. Wait for me to finish this and get the silver, and then I’ll come get you. After that, we’ll leave this place and travel far away. Nothing that holds us back now will matter anymore."

Having finally received his promise, Little Yao Family’s eyes welled up with emotional tears.

She said through her tears, "Brother Yun, I trust you! You must come get me as soon as it’s done! You don’t know... that Mr, Gu... he-he’s impotent! My aunt is so cruel. Knowing what Mr, Gu is, she didn’t go ruin some other girl’s life. She came to my family and arranged this for me. I had no choice... *sob* *sob*..."

As she spoke, she broke into quiet sobs, her shoulders trembling.

The white shadow quickly wrapped his arms around her, anxiously trying to comfort her. "Don’t cry, don’t cry. Your crying makes me not know what to do."

Leaning against his chest, Little Yao Family looked up. "Brother Yun, let me see your face again. I want to see your real face just one more time; it will put my mind at ease."

Fearing she would start crying again, the white shadow agreed this time without hesitation.

He sighed. "Fine. Look if you must... Just please stop crying."

As he spoke, he lifted his collar, lowered his head, and peeled something off from the base of his neck.

It turned out his deathly pale appearance was mostly because he was wearing a mask.

Song Ciwan had thought he’d painted his face with white lacquer, but he was actually wearing a mask coated in it. This wasn’t just a simple mask; it covered his entire face and extended down over his neck and shoulders.

He reached into his collar and quickly lifted the large, elaborate mask.

The moment the mask came off, Little Yao Family’s breathing grew ragged.

The face revealed beneath was both handsome and bewitching. With dark, elegant eyebrows, refined eyes, a perfect nose, and cherry-red lips, he possessed a striking androgynous beauty.

Brother Yun’s skin was exceptionally fair and smooth. Under the moonlight, it seemed to emit a cool, pearlescent glow. Never mind an ordinary man—even the most beautiful young woman would be hard-pressed to have such flawless skin.

Little Yao Family stared, utterly captivated. She reached out her hand, seemingly wanting to touch Brother Yun’s snow-like skin.

Brother Yun, however, quickly placed the mask back on. He carefully pressed down along the lower edges where it met his shoulders, making sure every part was sealed flat and not peeling up. Only then did he let out a long sigh of relief.

He then whispered to Little Yao Family, "Jing’Er, we have a long future ahead of us. You should hurry back now. Don’t blow our cover, or our plan will be ruined."

Little Yao Family had gotten her look, even if she hadn’t been able to touch. Being coaxed so gently, she knew she couldn’t pester him any longer.

She replied reluctantly, "Brother Yun, I’m going back now. After everything is done, I will wait for you to come for me."

Brother Yun stretched out his arms, hesitated for a moment, then pulled Little Yao Family into an embrace and patted her gently. "Rest assured," he whispered, "I won’t fail you. Now, hurry and go..."

In the end, Little Yao Family departed, still looking back with longing.

Brother Yun remained behind the large tree, watching her leave. Halfway back, Little Yao Family suddenly turned around and saw the white shadow still watching her from a distance. A sweet warmth filled her heart.

’Brother Yun truly cares for me...’ she thought to herself.

With this, Little Yao Family was finally at ease.

She delayed no longer, quickening her pace toward home.

Back outside the Gu Family courtyard, Little Yao Family slipped in through the back door. She quietly bolted it, completely unaware of what happened next. The very moment her figure disappeared behind the gate, Brother Yun, still by the tree, turned away. He began disgustedly brushing himself down from head to toe.

He paid special attention to the arm he had used to embrace Little Yao Family, scrubbing at it again and again, his disgust plain to see.

Of course, from such a distance, and with no knowledge of Divine Techniques, there was no way for Little Yao Family to have witnessed this scene.

Only Song Ciwan, an observer from the very beginning, had witnessed it all.

She felt as though she was watching some bizarre, real-life film. The Great Zhou was a vast place; all manner of strange things could happen at any moment.

The tales passed down among the people were often not as bizarre or twisted as the events that happened in reality.

Of course, most stories were inseparable from love, hate, desire, greed, anger, and folly. The treachery of the human heart made no distinction between the imperial court and the rustic countryside, between Immortal and mortal.

A small temple can still raise a vicious wind, and a shallow pond is still full of scoundrels.

Who was there to blame?

Song Ciwan did not avert her gaze. She continued to watch.

Her Spiritual Sense split its focus, watching both sides. She saw Little Yao Family sneak back to her room. The woman let down her hair and took off her peach-pink blouse and gray-green skirt.

Dressed only in a set of white under-robes, Little Yao Family quietly climbed back into her bed.

Mr, Gu, who shared her bed, seemed to sense her abrupt return and mumbled in his sleep, "What’s the matter with you, taking so long just to get up in the night?"

Little Yao Family whispered, "My stomach was hurting..."

Half-asleep, Mr, Gu slurred, "Lazy people are full of shit. You’re such a pretentious woman!" With that, a sharp SLAP! His hand struck Little Yao Family hard across the face.

Little Yao Family clutched her cheek, eyes wide with shock. She didn’t dare cry or make a sound, not uttering a single word.

Only when Mr, Gu rolled over and fell fast asleep again did Little Yao Family finally let two streams of tears silently fall in the darkness.

She bit her lip, lay back down under the covers, and turned her back to Mr, Gu.

The silent night watched on, playing host to the sorrows and joys of the Mortal World.
