Eternal Life: I Can Sell Everything
Chapter 340 - 331: Act on Your Thoughts, Clear Your MindThe Fox Demon was asking Song Ciwan an unexpected question: Had she achieved mental clarity?
Song Ciwan had likely sensed a Fox Demon passing by when she was dealing with the Deceitful Realm formed by the Skeleton Cultivator.
After that, the Fox Demon had hidden nearby, secretly following and watching her every move.
At the time, Song Ciwan didn’t actually know the observer was Tushan Keji. She had only sensed an abnormality in the space around her, which was why she chose to stop on this mountain peak after dealing with everything and call out her follower.
She hadn’t expected the follower to be the Demon Race’s Celestial Pride, Tushan Keji!
Song Ciwan actually had a very deep impression of Tushan Keji.
This Celestial Pride of the Demon Race roamed the Mortal World of the Nine Provinces. Though a demon, he was singularly focused on pursuing the Dao of the Human Race. To this end, he had read more of the Scriptures of the Saints and Sages than most humans.
Tushan Keji’s presence could be felt all over the Nine Provinces, and he often appeared in many folk tales. He was famous throughout the Nine Provinces for his love of discussing the Dao.
His refined and elegant demeanor while debating the Dao was equally famous throughout the Nine Provinces.
But if you thought this meant Tushan Keji was harmless or friendly to the Human Race, you would be gravely mistaken.
Of course, this didn’t mean Tushan Keji was necessarily an Evil Demon.
It was simply that one had to be measured and cautious when dealing with him.
When Tushan Keji posed his question, Song Ciwan knew that his inquiry about her ’thoughts being clear’ was still referring to the matters concerning Yao Ermei.
This Celestial Pride of the Demon Race would never ask a question without reason. A different kind of debate on the Dao had likely already begun, unseen, with his appearance.
Song Ciwan pondered for a moment before answering honestly, "They’re not very clear."
Her honest reply took Tushan Keji by surprise.
The Fox Demon asked with a smile, "Oh? How are they not clear?"
"I don’t know why they’re not clear," Song Ciwan replied. "But something feels unsettled."
Tushan Keji frowned slightly, a look of confusion on his face. "Is that all?"
"Of course not," Song Ciwan said. "Since my thoughts are unclear and I don’t know how to resolve it, I’ll simply act. I will seek the way to a solution through action."
Tushan Keji then asked seriously, "What Dao is this?"
"The Dao of practice," Song Ciwan said. "What do you make of it?"
As she spoke, she gave Tushan Keji a light bow with her hands clasped. Then, with a single stride, she traveled more than thirty li back in the direction of Shanshui County.
Of course, this wasn’t to say her speed was thirty li per step. Rather, she had achieved Space Crossing within that single step, and thus with a flicker of her body, she appeared over thirty li away.
This Space Crossing Technique could be called utterly miraculous. If Tushan Keji couldn’t keep up, then there would naturally be no need for Song Ciwan to continue the discussion on the Dao with him.
After all, the world of Cultivators always respected the strong. If your skills were lacking, what Dao was there to discuss?
He’d die of shame. Without Song Ciwan needing to say another word, Tushan Keji would have to retreat on his own.
But this step of Space Crossing clearly didn’t stump Tushan Keji. The Fox Demon obviously had his own unique understanding of the spatial Dao.
Song Ciwan took a step of thirty li, and Tushan Keji followed like a shadow, floating gracefully behind her.
What he used didn’t seem like Space Crossing, but more like a spontaneous teleportation. Wherever Song Ciwan went, he appeared!
This pursuit was undoubtedly a contest of its own.
Song Ciwan took another step to the southwest. This time, she passed over Shanshui County Town and returned once more to Gu Family Village.
Tushan Keji followed her every move, staying right with her.
Song Ciwan arrived at the Ancient Gu Mansion. It was late; though the sun hadn’t fully set, the evening glow meandered across the horizon, carrying a hesitant dimness.
The banquet at the Ancient Gu Mansion had long been cleared away. The opera stage in front of the gate was half-dismantled, and a mess of broken cups and plates lay on the ground, yet to be cleaned. Against the backdrop of the evening glow, it created a scene of indescribable desolation.
Lady Gu of the Yao family lay in bed, wiping her tears and repeatedly saying she had failed her maiden family.
Yao Ermei was her niece from her maiden family. With Yao Ermei missing, Lady Gu appeared deeply heartbroken.
As for Mr, Gu, he had lost his wife and killed a man. Now he was locked in the main hall by Old Gu, forced to kneel before the ancestral tablets and reflect on his misdeeds.
Song Ciwan paid no mind to these extraneous matters. She simply stood at the edge of the hall. Just as Mr, Gu kowtowed to the tablets once more, she suddenly pointed a finger at the one in the very center.
The tablet fell with a CRACK, landing on Mr, Gu’s hand.
Mr, Gu let out a heaven-shaking, tragic scream. "AHHH!"
The rest of the Gu family heard the commotion and came rushing over.
Ancient Major Sect was the fastest. He dashed to Mr, Gu’s side and yelled, "Second Brother, what’s wrong with you?"
Mr, Gu lifted his bloody, mangled left hand. The fall had completely shattered it!
An ancestral tablet had broken Mr, Gu’s hand—how could such a thing happen?
Ancient Major Sect’s heart leaped into his throat. He quickly looked down at the tablet, only to be shocked again.
Where the tablet had fallen, incense ash was scattered on the floor.
The fine, curved ash had formed a line of words: "Fated to have no wife; to marry brings misfortune."
Lady Gu, who ran in next, was so shocked by the words that she fell to the ground. A sharp pain shot through her tailbone, and she clutched her back, crying out repeatedly, "Ouch, my back! Ouch! How can this be? How can this be? Oh, ancestors! Wuwuwu..."
She drew out her wails, her sobs winding through the incense ash.
Meanwhile, Song Ciwan, who had secretly orchestrated all of this, did not linger. She turned and left.
One step, and she crossed another thirty li.
The evening glow painted the Wind. Tushan Keji followed close behind and let out a soft laugh. "Fellow Daoist, this time, have you achieved mental clarity?"
Song Ciwan replied, "It’s much better, but my thoughts are still not completely clear."
Tushan Keji asked, puzzled, "Why is that?"
But Song Ciwan didn’t answer directly. Instead, she asked Tushan Keji in return, "Fellow Daoist, what about you? Have your thoughts achieved clarity?"
Tushan Keji said in surprise, "I am not like you, Fellow Daoist, to harbor such compassion for mere mortals. My thoughts have never been unclear. For you to ask such a question is to judge others by your own standards, which is somewhat unbecoming of a Cultivator."
Song Ciwan couldn’t help but laugh. She shook her head slightly and said, "There you are mistaken, Fellow Daoist. If your thoughts were truly clear, why would you wander the Nine Provinces, lingering time and again in the Mortal World? You must have doubts in your heart. That is why you entered the world of dust and have found it so hard to leave."
She turned to look at the Fox Demon beside her and said one sentence, plain yet powerful: "Fellow Daoist, why not be honest?"
Tushan Keji was stunned. He first asked Song Ciwan, "Fellow Daoist, you know of my origins?"
That was right. This time, Tushan Keji had not introduced himself to Song Ciwan.
And although Song Ciwan had met Tushan Keji once before, she had been using her original appearance at the time. This time, however, she had changed her face, and her Big White Goose was tucked away in her Spirit Beast Bag, out of Tushan Keji’s sight.
So, theoretically, Song Ciwan should not have recognized this Fox Demon.
