Chapter 287 - 193: LeavingChapter 287: Chapter 193: Leaving
It radiated a potent, malevolent aura that sent a shiver down one’s spine.
As soon as it appeared, the wolf pack immediately fell back.
’So strong!’ Fang Yue was utterly shaken. The aura emanating from this wolf actually put him under a bit of pressure.
This was definitely not an aura a common Demon Beast could possess!
And just as he stood there in shock, the pitch-black wolf looked in their direction and let out a low snarl.
The wolf’s eyes were filled with thick bloodlust, as if it wanted to devour Fang Yue whole.
"Everyone, don’t be afraid!!! It won’t dare to come in! If we defend the village until dawn, we’ll be fine!" The old village chief, also feeling the terrifying pressure from the Wolf King, immediately stepped forward and shouted.
The villagers all picked up their weapons, warily watching the Wolf King.
"AWOO!" The Wolf King let out another howl.
But its blood-red eyes were fixed tightly on Fang Yue in the crowd.
"The wolves’ target is the outsider! That outsider is the one who drew the wolf pack here!"
A young man stepped forward, pointing at Fang Yue and declaring, "He’s the one who drew the wolf pack here!"
More and more people started blaming Fang Yue, demanding the village chief drive him out.
"What nonsense are you talking about? How could he have possibly led these beasts here? He’s my disciple, not an outsider!"
And at that moment, Qiudi stepped forward, shielding Fang Yue. She fixed a deadly stare on the villagers who wanted to cast him out.
Seeing this, Fang Yue couldn’t help but be surprised.
’This so-called master of mine isn’t half bad,’ he thought. ’She really steps up when things get serious.’
In that moment, his impression of the young woman changed for the better.
However, Qiudi probably didn’t notice that after she stepped forward, the gazes of the village’s young men on Fang Yue gained an extra dose of malice.
’It seems they aren’t just targeting me because I’m an outsider after all.’
"Mr. Lin, look at the situation. We have no choice. If we don’t send this young man out, I’m afraid these wolf beasts won’t retreat tonight."
The old village chief didn’t look at Qiudi, but instead turned to Lin Chan.
The two of them, senior brother and junior sister, were doctors renowned far and wide. The village couldn’t do without Mr. Lin, whether for treating minor ailments or hunting injuries.
Besides, Mr. Lin was the one who had brought this outsider back.
If they were to drive this person out, it should be Mr. Lin who gave the order.
"Forget it. I’ll leave." Fang Yue shook his head slightly, not wanting to force Lin Chan into a difficult decision.
Although he didn’t know who had drawn the pack of wolf beasts here, he was the only outsider in the village. Forcing his stay would only cause trouble.
"Senior Brother, you can’t let my disciple leave! If he goes, I’m going with him!" Qiudi insisted.
"There’s no need!" Fang Yue shook his head and said, "The villagers here are innocent. They shouldn’t be dragged into this."
After speaking, Fang Yue immediately dashed into the darkness. Just as expected, a number of the direwolves broke off from the main pack and pursued him.
Seeing this, Qiudi gritted her teeth and plunged into the darkness as well.
~~~~~~
’These direwolves actually followed me. What do they want?’
Fang Yue raced through the darkness, noticing that a number of direwolves were indeed tracking him from the shadows behind.
’What do they want? Is it really because I’m an outsider? Can these beasts tell the difference between locals and outsiders and hold a specific animosity toward the latter?’
He couldn’t help but wonder.
He quickly dismissed his own guess.
Although this wolf pack seemed ferocious, beasts were still just beasts.
So, what was it that attracted these direwolves?
Fang Yue’s mind raced. ’What do I have on me? What could possibly attract these direwolves?’
He soon found the answer. The reason the direwolves were chasing him had to be because of the piece of beast hide he was carrying.
Other than that, there was nothing else strange on his person.
With that thought, Fang Yue understood.
It turned out the wolf pack wasn’t interested in him, but in the beast hide.
"Wait for me! I know a place where we can hide from these direwolves," Qiudi said, catching up to him from behind.
"Where?" Fang Yue asked, turning around.
"There’s a hill over there. We can temporarily escape the direwolves’ line of sight."
"Alright!"
And so, Fang Yue and Qiudi headed toward the hill.
The hill was about thirty li from their village. A dense, overgrown forest grew on it, offering excellent cover.
Qiudi led Fang Yue to a cave. The entrance was only large enough for a single person to pass through, meaning the massive direwolves couldn’t follow.
Passing through the cave, the two of them arrived in a valley.
The bright moon hung high in the sky, dotted with starlight. The valley was perfectly still, with not a single sound to be heard.
"There shouldn’t be any danger here. The wolf beasts can’t get in," Qiudi said.
"Then I thank you!"
Fang Yue was also a bit tired, so he sat down cross-legged.
Qiudi, meanwhile, went to prepare a campfire and water.
She arranged the firewood on the ground, lit it with a flint, and began to boil some water.
She did all of this in a very orderly manner, showing her familiarity with the place. She must come here often.
Fang Yue sat cross-legged nearby and began to regulate his breathing, entering a meditative state.
Before long, the fire was burning brightly.
BUBBLE! BUBBLE!
The water began to boil, frothing at the surface.
"Have some water." Qiudi held up a bowl of clear, boiled stream water and offered it to Fang Yue.
