Chapter 171: Chapter 115: Another Round?

Early morning.

Sunlight pierced through the thin mountain mist, shining into Shan Weizi’s boudoir in the backyard of Spirit Sword Mountain.

Outside the window, small birds chirped away. On the balcony, dewy flower buds, poised to bloom, unfurled into their most beautiful forms, tempting bees to come and take a taste.

At her vanity, Shan Weizi sat clad in a traditional bodice, gently combing her waist-length hair with a wooden comb.

Through the vanity mirror, she saw Su Ran clutching the blanket, fast asleep. He really was exhausted and needed to rest. Recalling the previous night, a blissful, womanly expression graced her face.

A girl had become a woman.

Shan Weizi was a woman raised by two distinct cultures—that of a Scholarly Family and a Martial Arts Family. Her personality could be gentle or unyielding, but her most defining trait was her genuineness.

In truth, they had known of each other for nearly half a year. Even before their first meeting, Shan Weizi had learned of Su Ran’s name through Li Tai. It had even led to several sleepless nights. ’Who on earth is this Su Ran? Do I know him? How did he know that painting by Wang Changyue was mine?’

The seeds of fate were sown then.

Later, out of boredom, she wrote a novel and encountered a "whale" of a reader who pestered the "damned author" for more Chapters. They chatted for a month or two before he came to Hangzhou on a business trip and they arranged to meet. She never imagined his "business trip" was to her home, and the person she was meeting was Su Ran.

And so, the fruit was borne.

Every woman in the world has something she believes in. For some, it’s money—give them money, and you’re their husband. For others, it’s looks—if you’re handsome, they’ll like you. Shan Weizi believed in the repeated arrangements of fate, so she took him to heart. Su Ran’s subsequent actions only improved her impression of him, especially when his masterful painting skills transformed that piece into ’The Peacock Flies Southeast.’ That was a critical hit against her defenses.

Shan Weizi believed in ’fate.’

But more than believing in fate, she believed in Su Ran. Besides, the Shan’s had all come to see Su Ran as their future son-in-law. What happened last night had an element of impulse to it, but what was given was given. There was no need to dwell on it. What mattered most was building a life together in the future. Sex wasn’t everything. She naturally trusted that he would cherish her. ’You could just call it ’making love as you go,’’ she thought.

If it turned out she’d been played or betrayed, Shan Weizi’s personality wasn’t the type to just say, ’Oh well, guess I slept with a dog.’ She would absolutely grab her sword and go annihilate Su Ran.

That’s just how unyielding she was.

A moment later.

Su Ran awoke, exhausted. He looked around the antique-style room, which was filled with a faint fragrance. Turning his head, he saw a bronze incense burner on the table, wisps of blue smoke curling from it.

"What’s that?"

"You’re awake..." Shan Weizi said, turning back to him with a smile. "That’s a calming incense. It helps with sleep. You... were exhausted, so I lit it especially for you. Mr. Su, are you hungry...?"

Su Ran smiled, picked up the comb, and walked over to stand behind her. He gazed at her reflection in the mirror: her long hair draping over her traditional bodice, her oval face and delicate features, now with a certain extra glow.

"Sit still. I’ll comb your hair for you."

"Oh."

Shan Weizi sat obediently, watching through the mirror as Su Ran earnestly combed her hair. A woman’s heart is naturally filled with happiness at such a moment, and she felt she hadn’t given herself to the wrong person.

Since things had already happened, it was natural for Su Ran to share some of his thoughts afterward. He didn’t make any grand, flowery declarations, just a single sentence.

"Shan Weizi, I won’t let you down."

"Mm, I know, Mr. Su."

Of course, the way she said ’Mr. Su’ this time was different; it was a term of endearment.

After they washed up, Shan Weizi stood and took Su Ran’s hand, whispering some sweet nothings that gave him goosebumps. Then she went to pick out a Tang-style, strapless, pink hanfu to wear. She spun around and asked, "Is it pretty?"

"It’s beautiful."

’Su Ran genuinely thought Shan Weizi was an absolute beauty, the kind of classic stunner who could topple kingdoms. The experience with a woman like this was naturally different. Of course, he liked her a lot, too. Since the die was cast, he just had to not be a scumbag and love her properly. He didn’t want to think about anything else. Su Ran wasn’t one to overthink things anyway. It was simpler to live in the moment. The future would reveal itself when it came.’

"You sit here. I’ll go get some hot water for you to wash your face."

"Okay."

Conditions on the mountain were primitive. There was no gas line, so all hot water had to be boiled.

Shan Weizi threw on an embroidered cloak, walked to the bedside with a hint of shyness, and placed the cherry-red-stained bedsheet into a bucket. Then she scurried away with a PITTER-PATTER.

Su Ran gave a wry smile, not for any other reason than the agreement in his hand.

They had signed it last night before round two.

At the time, Su Ran had wanted to ’compete,’ but she wasn’t having it. Fine, no competition. But after a long while, Shan Weizi got interested and wanted to compete.

Su Ran scoffed. In a very manly fashion, he ruthlessly pushed Shan Weizi off him and said, "Ha! So when I want to, you don’t have to cooperate, but when you want to, I have to cater to you? Impossible!"

...

Su Ran: "And you especially can’t threaten me with a sword. It really feels like I’m competing with tears in my eyes."

Clad in her bodice, Shan Weizi let out a snicker. She leaned in, caressed Su Ran’s face, and said, "I’ll remember, Mr. Su."

Her calling him that made Su Ran feel a little giddy, and his interest was piqued again. He cleared his throat and said, "Ahem, uh, do you have any amendments to add?"

Shan Weizi: "I can add something?"

Su Ran: "Of course!"

Shan Weizi thought for a moment. "Mm, okay, I’ll just add one clause." She picked up the pen and added a line to the paper: the competition time would be based on the 90-minute regulation time of a soccer match.

PFFT—

’It’s all part of the fun, I guess,’ Su Ran chuckled.

...

After breakfast, the snow stopped, and the sunlight was surprisingly warm.

"CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK~ Don’t run, old hen! Good girl, that’s right, just stand there and wait for me..." Shan Weizi was trying to catch a chicken, planning to make some soup to help Su Ran recover his strength. There was no ulterior motive. She was just a devoted woman who, having given him her heart, would now selflessly look out for his well-being.

Seeing the old hen stand perfectly still, Shan Weizi pattered over to grab it.

CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK~

The old hen flapped its wings and ran off.

Shan Weizi was instantly displeased.

"Fine, you old hen. You refused the toast, so now you’ll drink the penalty. Don’t blame me for what happens next."

With that, with a SHING~, she drew the longsword leaning nearby. With a single slash, the blade cut through the air, flying straight toward the old hen.

In the next moment, Su Ran turned his head, unable to watch the ’head-rolling’ scene.

’I have a feeling that if I ever cross her in the future, I’ll meet the same fate,’ he thought.

"La la la la~" Shan Weizi hummed a tune as she carried the bloody old hen to the kitchen.

At that moment, Su Ran was in the courtyard playing chess and chatting with Liu Buqun. They had both witnessed the scene but merely smiled. Neither of them thought it was particularly cruel to the hen. They weren’t bleeding hearts, after all, and this was far more merciful than slitting its throat and letting it die slowly.

"Sect Leader Liu, does your Sect have any fast-track Martial Arts? I’m suddenly very keen to learn."

"Even if we did, I wouldn’t teach you, hahaha..."

Liu Buqun laughed. He knew Su Ran wanted to learn a fast-track martial art so he could overpower Shan Weizi.

"Why don’t you join our Sect? I’ll teach you all our Martial Arts."

Su Ran shook his head vehemently. "No, no, I’m not that interested in martial arts."

Liu Buqun: "Piaopiao told me you’re very interested in painting. Come on, go paint something for me. Consider it payment for the carving."

Su Ran: "No problem."

The two went to the study in the back courtyard. Su Ran painted a landscape of the beautiful scenery of Spirit Sword Mountain. Liu Buqun gave him a thumbs-up in admiration. Standing to the side, Shan Weizi also felt that Su Ran really was more skilled than her. ’His semi-cursive script is so good, too.’

Shan Weizi: "It seems I still need to practice my calligraphy more diligently."

Su Ran: "Come here, I’ll teach you."

Shan Weizi hummed in agreement, untied her apron, and walked over. Liu Buqun found an excuse about mounting the painting and left.

Su Ran stood behind her, guiding her hand as it moved across the Xuan paper. Shan Weizi let out a snicker, shot a reproachful look at the perfectly serious Su Ran, then turned back in embarrassment to look at the character he was teaching her to write on the paper: Dick.
