Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking
Chapter 203: Why Did You Do This?Secretary Dawson was about to lose his mind. "You... just you wait! What are you all standing around for? Get her!"
He hadn’t wanted to get rough with a young woman, but now she wasn’t getting out of this!
His underlings snapped back to reality and rushed forward to grab Jane Lancaster.
But Jane Lancaster was faster. Before Secretary Dawson could even finish his sentence, she had already thrown off the first goon and blocked the others.
She had been standing closest to Secretary Dawson, making it all too easy. She lunged forward, yanked him back by his suit jacket, and with a few swift twists, pinned his arms behind his back.
Secretary Dawson might have a sharp tongue, but physically, he was a total pushover.
"Don’t come any closer, or I can’t guarantee what I’ll do." A blade glinted in Jane Lancaster’s hand. "You’ve probably heard, right? I killed three vicious dogs last night. I might be having a psychotic episode. I might see anyone who rushes me as just another dog."
Secretary Dawson was stunned. He’d thought that no matter how brazen Jane Lancaster was, she wouldn’t dare lay a hand on him.
After all, she’d only called herself a murderer. The fact that she only dared to slap his underlings suggested she still had some restraint.
But now? It was clear she had no restraint at all. She was completely fearless!
Besides, Jane Lancaster hadn’t just killed a few dogs; she had killed a person before. Years ago, she had jumped off a building while holding a kidnapper. When the news reached Solara, President Hughes himself had commented, saying it was no different from murder.
The hand gripping him was ice-cold, and a chill ran through Secretary Dawson’s heart.
"Stop! All of you, stay back!"
The group of underlings froze. No one dared to step forward.
Secretary Dawson said, "What do you want? I suggest you don’t do anything reckless. We can talk about this calmly."
He felt like his arm was about to break. He had never been so humiliated.
Jane Lancaster said, "Tell your men to get lost. I don’t want to see them. They’re too scary, and I’m very timid. And when I get scared, there’s no telling what I might do."
Secretary Dawson was speechless.
’You’re scared? Who’s more audacious than you! She’s a complete lunatic. The crazy one isn’t Alvin Lancaster in that room—it’s Jane Lancaster!’
The Hughes Family had run roughshod over Solara for far too long. He was usually the one bullying others, stepping on them as he pleased. This was the first time he had ever been so disgraced.
With a strained voice, Secretary Dawson said, "All of you, get out... hurry..."
When Julian and Adrian Lancaster arrived at the hospital, they saw a crowd of people standing outside the hospital room from a distance.
He hurried forward and saw Jane Lancaster holding Secretary Dawson hostage. He froze for a second before his expression turned cold.
"Jay, let go!" Julian Lancaster said in a low voice as he walked over.
Adrian Lancaster was also furious. ’What on earth is she doing? Behaving so violently at a time like this will only push things to a point of no return.’
"Are you crazy? Do you see what’s happening right now? Can you please stop making things worse!"
Adrian Lancaster stepped forward and slapped the knife out of Jane Lancaster’s hand.
The knife fell to the ground with a dull thud.
Adrian was about to continue his tirade when he suddenly realized the sound was off. He looked down and saw that it was just a plastic prop knife.
Secretary Dawson stared in disbelief. He had been played by a plastic knife?
Jane Lancaster smiled. "As despicable as you all are, I can’t actually break the law."
’I’m not an idiot. Holding someone hostage with a knife in public? That’s just asking to be thrown in jail.’
Furious and humiliated, Secretary Dawson snapped, "Fine! Just you wait! I’ll be reporting this to President Hughes!"
He stormed off, completely ignoring Julian Lancaster’s apology.
Julian Lancaster took a few steps after him but eventually stopped.
"Jay, why would you do that?" Julian Lancaster asked in a low voice, his eyes filled with a bone-chilling coldness and rage.
Lucy Finch tried to explain, "Young Master Julian, they were trying to take Young Master Alvin away. They said they suspected he was faking his illness..."
"Jane Lancaster!" Julian Lancaster suddenly raised his voice. "I’m asking you. Why did you do it?"
His shout startled Lucy Finch, who instinctively fell silent.
She had never seen Julian yell at Jane like that. Forget yelling; he was usually afraid that even raising his voice slightly wouldn’t be gentle enough.
Jane Lancaster’s voice was calm. "Brother, what exactly are you asking?"
’Why is he acting so hurt and disappointed? He should have known this was coming.’
’There’s no need to keep up the act now. The masks are off.’
Adrian Lancaster crossed his arms and said coldly, "Our brother is asking why you insisted on attending the Hughes family’s banquet when we told you not to. And why you provoked Secretary Dawson, causing the negotiations to reach a stalemate."
Jane Lancaster tilted her head. "Is that all?"
’There must be more. Didn’t you two just go see Henry Hughes?’
Julian Lancaster’s eyes grew even colder. She even knew they had gone to see Henry Hughes.
"So, why did you trick Alvin into going to the Hughes’ estate? You knew he developed amnesia from the trauma of seeing you kill that dog there all those years ago. Why did you deliberately scheme to make him remember it all again?"
Lucy Finch was completely stunned. Julian’s accusation made it sound as if Jane had intentionally harmed Alvin, with the goal of driving him insane.
Good heavens, what a vicious and heart-wrenching accusation!
As an assistant, Lucy Finch couldn’t just stand by and watch the siblings turn on each other.
"Young Master Julian, you’re not calm right now. Let me go get you a cup of coffee..."
Jane Lancaster said, "There’s no need for coffee. I think my brother is perfectly calm."
Julian Lancaster stared at her coldly. Indeed, he didn’t need coffee to calm down.
"Think whatever you want." Jane Lancaster had no intention of wasting her breath. "You’ve already looked into the whole series of events and drawn your own conclusion, haven’t you?"
She paused, then let out a self-deprecating laugh. "It seems I’m not welcome here. In that case, I’ll be leaving."
Just as she was about to turn, a loud crash came from inside the hospital room.
"Alvin!" "Second Brother!"
The expressions on Julian and Adrian Lancaster’s faces changed as they hurriedly threw open the door and rushed inside.
Alvin Lancaster had somehow fallen from the hospital bed, knocking over the bedside table and sending its contents scattering across the floor.
Alvin Lancaster’s head throbbed with an explosive pain, as if it were being split in two.
He drifted in and out of lucidity. Seeing the figure outside the room, he was so overwhelmed with emotion that he wanted to both laugh and cry.
"Jay! Jay!" he called out, his voice trembling. He wanted his sister to stay, not to leave.
Nowhere in this world felt safe, but his sister was his greatest security.
’That’s right. He had his sister; he didn’t need to be afraid. As long as his sister was here, he could break free from those shadows and avoid being dragged into an endless darkness.’
"Jay..." He struggled to reach out his hand.
Noticing how agitated he became at the sight of Jane Lancaster, Adrian immediately turned and yelled at the person in the doorway, "Get the hell out of here!"
Jane Lancaster paused for a moment, then turned and left.
The light in Alvin Lancaster’s eyes faded.
—
Jean Hughes listened to Secretary Dawson’s report with a look of pure astonishment.
Secretary Dawson was trying his utmost to persuade Jean Hughes that he absolutely must not fall for Jane Lancaster.
How could a woman like that be worthy of the young master’s affection? She was malicious and completely lawless. Who would want someone like that as their wife?
But after all his earnest dissuasion, he found that the young master had only become more determined.
’Why on earth?!’
The blood was buzzing in Jean Hughes’s veins. Just the thought of Jane Lancaster holding Secretary Dawson hostage sent a thrill of excitement through him.
’He had to marry her and bring her home as quickly as possible.’
