Evil Clown Evolution [A VRMMORPG Adventure]
Ch 16 - The Contract Already ExistsToma sat on the sofa in the living room, leaning back with a tired sigh.
His mind was a complete mess. Everything had happened so suddenly. A mysterious girl had somehow appeared in his bed. Naked, of all things.
How had she even gotten into his room? He was sure he had locked the front door before going to sleep, and there was no way anyone could have entered without waking him up.
The girl was now sitting quietly beside him, dressed in a set of clothes Lina had lent her a few minutes earlier. Across from them, Lina sat silently, glancing between the two of them as though she had countless things she wanted to ask. Yet she hadn't said a single word until now.
"Okay, Toma."
Lina finally broke the silence.
Toma kept his eyes fixed on the floor instead of looking at either of them.
"I'm going to speak first, okay?" she said gently. "Please don't interrupt me."
She took a quiet breath.
"I'm not trying to interfere with your life or anything. Honestly, I don't mind. In fact, if you've really found someone you love and want to spend the rest of your life with, then I'm happy for you."
"I'm only saying this as someone who cares about you," she continued. "So don't think I'm against you, okay?"
She then turned toward the girl sitting beside Toma.
"You said your name is Zetia?"
"Yes." The girl nodded calmly.
"I'm sorry if I interrupted your morning or anything. I honestly had no idea there was a woman in Toma's room. I wasn't trying to peek or anything."
She gave an awkward smile.
"I... didn't really see much, anyway."
After clearing her throat, she asked gently,
"Is your home somewhere near here?"
The girl slowly shook her head. "I can't go home right now. I need somewhere to stay."
Lina nodded without hesitation. "That's okay. You can stay here if you'd like. I don't mind."
"Toma has already taken my..."
Before she could finish, Toma quickly covered her mouth with his hand.
The girl looked at him in surprise and tried to pull his hand away.
"Stop it. What are you doing?"
"Don't say weird things!" Toma said frantically.
"I'm not saying anything weird." Zetia frowned at him. "You really did take the most precious thing in my life."
Lina let out another long sigh.
"Alright, alright."
She slowly stood up. "That's enough. You two should settle this between yourselves, okay? I have to head out."
She turned to Zetia.
"You're welcome to stay here. I really don't mind."
"I'll be back later. I just hope you two don't do anything too reckless while I'm gone."
She paused for a moment before smiling awkwardly.
"And... you don't have to explain everything to me in detail if you don't want to."
Finally, she turned toward Toma.
"Toma."
Her expression became unexpectedly serious.
"You have to take responsibility. I refuse to believe the Toma I know is the kind of man who runs away from his responsibilities."
A moment later, the sound of the front door closing echoed through the house. Silence filled the living room once again.
Now only Toma and the mysterious girl whose origins were still completely unknown remained inside the house.
Toma let out another sigh. After a moment, he got to his feet and looked over at the girl.
"You're coming with me," he said.
The girl slowly stood as well and turned to face him, but she stayed quiet for a second.
"You can't throw me away. I don't have anywhere to live."

"No. Yeah," he said.
By then, he was already dressed. Without the clown mask, his hair looked completely black that day.
A little while later, the two of them stepped out of the house. The girl looked stiff and awkward as she tried to put on Lina's shoes, clearly unfamiliar with wearing them.
"Give me a moment. These usually put themselves on my feet."
He simply watched in silence until she finally managed it. She looked up at him, then smiled once.
Toma locked the front door before walking toward the roadside. They waited there for a few moments until a taxi pulled up. He opened the back door and motioned for the girl to get inside.
She hesitated, lowering her head as she carefully climbed into the seat, looking uncertain.
Toma closed the door, walked around, and got in from the other side. The taxi pulled away almost immediately. The girl quietly looked around before turning her gaze toward the window, taking in everything outside without saying a single word.
The ride continued for quite a while. The silence inside the taxi stretched on without a single conversation. Every now and then, Toma glanced at the girl. She kept staring out the window, watching everything pass by.
Occasionally, her eyes would widen in surprise whenever something outside caught her attention.
Toma didn't respond to any of it. Several hours later, the taxi finally came to a stop. He stepped out first, then reached back to help the girl climb out as well.
The two of them stood in front of a towering building. The girl slowly lifted her head to look up at it before turning back to Toma.
"Where are we going?" she asked.
Toma pointed toward the massive building standing before them.
"Eternal Company. The company behind The Eternal Legacy. This is only one of its branches, but I want to confirm something."
"Eternal Company?" she repeated quietly.
The two of them walked into the building together. Once inside, Toma asked the girl to wait in the lobby before heading over to the customer service counter, where he joined the line.
After waiting for several minutes, it was finally his turn to speak with the young woman behind the desk.
"No, we don't keep any information about the character models we use for NPCs in the game. They're all generated through AI simulation," the employee explained.
"And no, our company doesn't have any program that sends companions to players or hires cosplayers to portray in-game characters."
"No, we've never offered any service like that."
"I'm sorry, but that's all the information I can give you."
A short while later, Toma returned to the lobby, where the girl was still sitting quietly in the same seat.
It was obvious that quite a few people walking past, and even some who were sitting nearby, couldn't help glancing in her direction.
"Let's go back," he said.
The girl nodded and stood up. Together, they walked out of the building and returned to the roadside.
They stood there in silence once again, waiting without saying a word.
Toma turned to look at the girl again. She was already looking back at him, but her expression had changed.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"I want to eat," she said.
Only then did Toma realize that he hadn't eaten either, not since the unbelievable events that had unfolded that morning.
Without another word, he took her to the nearest restaurant. After they were seated, he handed her the menu. She only stared at it in confusion, so he ended up explaining the different dishes they served.
The girl simply nodded no matter what he suggested.
A few minutes later, their food arrived. Toma started eating, and the girl carefully copied everything he did. Before long, her expression changed again. Every so often she would glance at him with a small smile while eating.
"So," he said.
The girl paused and looked at him.
"Hm?"
"Who exactly are you?"
She took a slow breath.
"I've already told you over and over. You took my veil."
"Okay." Toma cut her off before she could continue.
"That shouldn't be something anyone knows except me. Maybe the game developers do. That's why I'm still convinced they sent you here to keep me company or whatever this is. I assumed you're the person they used as the face model for the character in the game."
The girl tilted her head but didn't answer.
"Okay," he continued. "If you want to keep playing this role, you can stay at my place if that's what you want. But I need an explanation. Some kind of contract, agreement, a reason, anything. I can't just let a complete stranger live in my house without knowing what's really going on."
He fell silent for a moment, waiting for a response. The girl simply looked at him, as if she didn't fully understand what he meant. Every now and then, she repeated a single word, trying to make sense of it.
"A contract? Yes. We are already bound by one.”
Toma frowned. "What are you talking about?"
"When you stole my veil."
"Okay!" Toma said, deciding not to press the matter any further.
After a while, they finished their meal. Surprisingly, the girl had eaten far more than someone her size normally would. Three full servings.
Now that they were done, Toma figured he could try talking to her again, slowly, and maybe start making sense of whatever this situation was.
Even so, he refused to accept any explanation that defied common sense. He wouldn't allow himself to believe something so absurd.
Just as he was lost in those thoughts, someone suddenly stepped in front of him.
He looked up. Two men in black suits.
"Damn."
Toma quickly glanced behind him. More men had already blocked the way back.
"Toma, you bastard. You're not getting away this time."
That idiot really wasn't giving up!
