Chapter 1233: Chapter 1233 Poster

In an effort to take her mind off Ross, June buried herself in work, throwing herself into every task with relentless focus.

She did extra shifts, stayed late in the control room, and reviewed reports long after everyone else had gone left to rest.

Unfortunately, avoiding Ross was nearly impossible.

He wasn’t just another member of the base—he was its most valuable asset, perhaps even the most important individual in the entire U.S. military, solely because of his terrifyingly useful ability.

What made it even stranger was that he wasn’t even an enlisted soldier.

He operated outside the usual chain of command, untouchable, irreplaceable, and always present.

Ross was just a very helpful volunteer.

June saw him almost every day, and each encounter made things worse.

His casual confidence, the way he spoke to officers without a hint of deference, and the ease with which he carried himself all gnawed at her composure.

She hated herself for it, but she was attracted to him—dangerously so.

It wasn’t the harmless kind of crush she could laugh off.

It was the kind that tightened her chest, disrupted her sleep, and made her hyper-aware of his presence whenever he entered a room.

Every passing day only made it harder to ignore.

A full month passed like this.

During that time, Ross seemed perfectly content, spending his free moments with Jenny and Bella, enjoying their company without a care in the world.

Yet beneath his relaxed demeanor, he felt the clock ticking.

He had already invested enough time circling June, watching her reactions, testing her boundaries, and reading her silences.

To him, a month was more than enough.

It was time, he decided, to finally make his move and get into June’s pants.

And of course, it was easy for Ross to pull something like that off—after all, he had once been an award-winning actor.

Before his life had taken such a dramatic turn, he had experienced performing under pressure, to endure pain, and to maintain composure no matter how dire the situation became.

Now, that same resilience was being tested on the battlefield.

During one of his missions, he had been saving people left and right across different parts of the world, jumping from one disaster zone to another without rest.

By the time he finally returned to the base, he arrived in a smoking, battered mess, his clothes scorched, his body bruised, and the air around him still shimmering faintly from the residue of his teleportation.

“Ross! What happened?!” the base support personnel rushed toward him the moment he appeared.

He didn’t respond.

His body collapsed forward, and several people barely managed to catch him before he hit the floor.

He was completely unresponsive.

Emergency staff swarmed him immediately, calling out vitals, hooking him up to monitors, and starting resuscitation procedures.

The medical bay descended into controlled chaos as doctors and nurses worked relentlessly, refusing to give up.

Minutes stretched into an hour as they fought to stabilize him, administering medication, running scans, and checking every possible indicator.

“Vitals are stable.”

“Heart rate’s normal.”

“Oxygen levels are good.”

Yet despite everything looking fine on the monitors, Ross still did not wake.

“Why isn’t he waking up?! Do something!” Jenny cried, her voice breaking as she stood at the edge of the bed, tears streaming down her face.

Her hands trembled as she clutched the railing, helpless and terrified.

“Please… help him,” Bella pleaded softly, standing nearby with wide, fearful eyes.

She looked as though she might collapse at any moment, her fingers gripping the edge of her jacket as if that alone could keep her upright.

With both of them there, the room became even more chaotic.

The medical staff struggled to keep order as emotions ran high, voices overlapped, and the tension in the air grew unbearable.

Outside the medical bay, word spread quickly, and personnel gathered, whispering anxiously.

The base had faced many crises before—but this one felt different.

This time, their most important man wasn’t fighting the enemy.

He was fighting to wake up.

More than that, June was there too, frozen in place, staring at Ross’s unconscious form in disbelief.

The sight of him lying so still, surrounded by machines and wires, felt unreal—like a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from.

“This is my fault!” she thought bitterly, the words echoing in her mind as she blamed herself for the accident.

She had been running Ross ragged, using him like a living engine, pushing him from one mission to the next without pause.

Even when he had said—more than once—that he was exhausted, she had still sent him out again, trusting his ability more than his limits.

The guilt crushed her chest.

June wanted to cry. She wanted to scream. She wanted to fall to her knees and beg him to wake up.

But she didn’t.

As the base commander, she forced herself to keep a rigid poker face, her posture straight, her expression unreadable.

To everyone else, she looked calm, composed, unshaken.

Inside, however, she was breaking apart piece by piece, her heart slowly splintering under the weight of responsibility and regret.

She remained at his bedside long after others left, silently watching the rise and fall of his chest, clinging to every tiny sign of life.

Each passing hour felt like a punishment she had fully earned.

One week later, Ross finally woke up.

It happened suddenly.

His fingers twitched, his eyes fluttered, and then he slowly opened them, blinking in confusion at the unfamiliar ceiling above him.

Before the doctors could even react, Bella and Jenny were already there, rushing to his side and throwing themselves into his arms.

“Ross!” they cried at the same time, laughing and sobbing as they hugged him tightly, afraid to let go.

“Hey… hey, I’m okay,” he said hoarsely, clearly startled but relieved by their reactions.

The room quickly filled with voices, emotions, and overlapping questions. Doctors tried to assess him, nurses checked his vitals, and Bella and Jenny refused to move even an inch away from him.
