Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress
Chapter 676: Escaping the River of TimeThe stage of an Archdevil required the Devil to slowly strengthen their Throne until it grew powerful enough to escape the River of Time’s clutches.
The final step, taking the Throne off the illusory waters, was the most difficult part, and it was also what had kept Liora stuck for so long.
Although a portion of her Throne had long since left the River of Time, most of it remained trapped within its waters.
As though they were tentacles wrapping around its body, they kept it a hold of it, as if trying to drag it back.
This was why Liora had been unable to advance into an Ancient Devil for so long despite satisfying every other condition.
But now, she no longer faced such a difficulty.
The moment the Dragon of Time form exerted its full power, affecting the River of Time for a split second, her claws struck out and sent the Throne flying out of it.
One moment, it remained firmly embedded within the illusory river.
The next, it had appeared outside its reach.
The effects were immediate.
Liora sensed a terrifying power be born inside her body, while her consciousness began to ascend to a higher level.
Even the River of Time seemed far more approachable. They became clearer, allowing her to glimpse other aspects of it.
Liora had no time to investigate this new ability further, however.
The moment her Throne left the river, her dragon form did the same.
Appearing beside the condensation of the concepts represented by her existence, she dragged the Throne onto its banks.
She faced little resistance throughout the process.
Within only a few moments, the Throne had appeared above the banks.
Then, with a loud bang, it crashed upon them.
Bang!
Liora heard a thunderous boom echo directly within her mind.
An unknown power was born inside of her, causing her entire nature to start to change.
An illusory river materialized around her Dragon of Time form, seemingly resonating with the true River of Time not far away.
Within the Cosmic Sea, the unknown object being condensed in the far future showed signs of speeding up its gestation.
Unfortunately, Liora had yet to notice this.
Her entire mind remained immersed in the process of advancement.
Unlike any of her previous advancements, whether in stages or substages, this one was completely different.
Liora did not feel her body being significantly altered.
Neither her bloodline, demonic energy, nor physical vessel transformed.
Instead, it was the power of her consciousness and her very nature that changed.
She seemed to be ascending into a creature of a higher dimension!
The effect of this was clear.
The River of Time beside her became even clearer.
By the end, Liora could observe its illusory waters in their entirety.
This was not the only change.
As she glanced at the banks of the River of Time, she noticed several new powers appear.
When she traced them back to their source, she discovered the same thing.
Thrones!
Countless Thrones!
Just like her own, they were "perched" on top of the banks of the River of Time, seemingly stretching through both the past and the future.
Illusory figures could be seen seated on top of them.
Their features were vague and indescribable, as though some force made it impossible to make out their true identities.
Just as Liora was focused on one of them, the vague figure seemed to have sensed something. Its eyes opened wide, and it turned toward her direction.
Its gaze pierced through time and space, landing upon Liora and her Throne.
Then, a surprised voice came out of its mouth.
"Huh? Has a new Ancient Devil been born?"
"It’s an unfamiliar aura..."
The voice was hoarse and indistinguishable.
From its words, it was clear that it belonged to another Ancient Devil, one who had broken through long before Liora.
Yet just as Liora was preparing for a battle, or at least a conversation, the Ancient Devil observing her withdrew its gaze.
"It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter.", it whispered.
"My Tribulation is coming soon. There’s no reason to exert any effort."
Its mutterings spread throughout the River of Time before finally fading away.
The River of Time turned back to normal.
No other figure was awakened.
Whether they had not noticed the disturbance or simply shared the same thoughts as the previous figure was unknown.
Either way, no one woke up.
Liora’s advancement went unexpectedly smoothly.
Her gaze swept through the surroundings. She didn’t let her eyes linger for long on any of the Thrones, unwilling to attract anyone’s attention.
After confirming there was no danger, Liora turned toward her Throne.
It was as magnificent and majestic as ever.
Its aura had grown even more ancient as a result of its ascension, as though its existence could trace back to the very creation of the Origin Sea.
If one didn’t know better, they would have believed it was the Throne of an ancient emperor.
Liora organized her thoughts.
Standing along the banks of the River of Time, she took a few steps forward, approaching it.
Moments later, she had appeared in front of her Throne.
Without anyone telling her what to do, she knew what she had to do.
She didn’t hesitate. The Dragon of Time form dispersed.
Although this slightly decreased her control over time, it ultimately did not matter.
Liora took the final step.
She observed her Throne one final time before finally sitting on it.
Bang!
Another explosion occurred within her mind, resembling that of the Big Bang.
Instantly, an uncountable amount of information flooded her mind.
At the same time, her consciousness seemed to have been elevated even further.
As her gaze landed on the River of Time, she noticed scenes emerging from the past.
She subconsciously stretched her hand.
A miniature figure materialized. With crimson hair and eyes, it looked exactly like herself.
With a snap of Liora’s fingers, the figure fell into the River of Time.
As a result, her field of vision rapidly shifted.
