"Have you looked enough?" Lin Haoren teased after putting on his shirt, noticing Su Xiaoran was still staring at him.
Su Xiaoran’s previous boldness quickly disappeared, and her cheeks burned with redness.
She suddenly felt bashful, realizing how bold she had been. Panic set in, and her heart raced as though a little deer were leaping inside her chest.
The mood became somewhat ambiguous.
Although Lin Haoren had covered up, Su Xiaoran could still recall his defined chest and abdomen muscles in her mind.
She couldn’t help but want to touch them.
However, she quickly shook the perverted thoughts out of her head and focused on the dining table. Her eyes lit up at the sight of neatly packed lunch boxes and thermal containers.
She immediately scooted over to dig in.
"Ahh, I knew it! Brother Lin’s cooking is the best!" Su Xiaoran generously praised, her eyes shining like stars.
Tonight’s food was exceptionally delicious.
Uwu, she missed out!
"Was dinner with your Senior not good, Ran Ran?" Lin Haoren asked curiously, seeing how she was devouring the food.
"Dinner was very good. The Western restaurant Sister Mu took me to was very high-end. The food was great, but too expensive. I didn’t dare eat too much," Su Xiaoran said, head lowered.
"You paid for dinner?"
"No, Sister Mu paid. I just feel guilty eating such expensive food. I’m not used to it."
’But you’re not guilty about eating my food?’ Lin Haoren wanted to say, but simply shrugged.
"Since you didn’t eat enough, eat more. However, don’t overeat, or you’ll upset your stomach," Lin Haoren casually warned, while sitting on the sofa with the laptop rested on his lap, typing away on his new novel.
Although Su Xiaoran was attentive to her food, the rapid clicking of keys gradually pulled her attention to Lin Haoren’s laptop. Seeing his fingers fly across the keyboard in blurs, she gasped with amazement.
"What are you writing, Brother Lin?"
"A new novel."
With his focus immersed in his story, he could only give Su Xiaoran short, cold replies. He did not notice the quick passage of time.
Su Xiaoran had finished her second dinner, washed the lunch boxes and thermal containers, then made her way over to his side, staring at the laptop screen with curious wonder. The speed at which words filled the screen was both shocking and impressive.
Surprisingly, her reading couldn’t keep up with his writing speed. Thus, she quickly gave up trying to understand what the story was about. Since he was busy, she didn’t bother him too much either.
Her eyes scanned the room, looking for something to do.
She quickly locked onto Oreo, and her eyes lit up. She hurriedly went over to pick him up, bringing him back to the sofa to play with.
Ah, unhand me, Human!
Oreo protested, but showed little resistance. He was quickly defeated by the comfortable, under-the-chin scratches and head strokes.
Thus, it lay obediently in Su Xiaoran’s lap.
This... isn’t so bad.
Just like that, one silently worked on his laptop while the other played with the cat, both sharing the sofa and each other’s company.
When Lin Haoren hit 24,000 words, Su Xiaoran’s sudden groan broke his focus. He glanced over to see her clutching her stomach with discomfort.
"What’s the matter, Ran Ran?"
"Ugh, I think I might have overeaten a little bit, Brother Lin," Su Xiaoran answered with a somewhat pale look, making a silly "oopsie" expression.
Lin Haoren raised an eyebrow and glanced over at the empty dining table. He had left enough food for a full dinner.
Did Su Xiaoran finish the whole thing?
You call that overeating a little bit?
Lin Haoren stared at her speechlessly, thinking, ’Didn’t I warn you not to overeat?’ He didn’t know whether to be amused or annoyed.
However, he also felt slightly pleased that she finished his food.
This made him somewhat conflicted about his feelings.
"Get up. Let’s go for a walk to help with digestion," Lin Haoren suggested, carefully putting his laptop away and getting up.
His actions suggested he would accompany her walk.
"Ugh, I don’t think I can, Brother Lin. I feel like I’ll throw up if I move..."
Su Xiaoran looked like she wanted to cry when she thought about throwing up.
All the good food would be wasted if she did.
She looked rather pitiful, but she put herself in this kind of situation.
Lin Haoren wanted to laugh, but his upbringing taught him not to find joy in others’ misfortune, lest he bring bad luck on himself.
Still, the corners of his lips curved upwards.
"Then sit straight and don’t move. I’ll bring you a glass of warm water."
"Thank you, Brother Lin."
Soon, Lin Haoren came back with a glass of warm water and handed it over, "Don’t drink too much. Just take small sips here and there."
"Mm." Su Xiaoran accepted obediently.
A few minutes later, her complexion slightly improved, then she coyly complained, "Brother Lin, I became like this because of your food. How will you compensate me?"
"You’re blaming me?" Lin Haoren asked, taken aback.
Su Xiaoran blushed with embarrassment, but still mustered the courage to acknowledge shamelessly.
Lin Haoren was tickled by this, then smiled playfully.
"Alright, how do you want me to compensate you?"
"Hmm... Let me think... How about you cook for me a few more times, Brother Lin? How about that? Not too difficult, right?"
Hearing her true intentions, Lin Haoren wanted to laugh out loud. Then, he playfully knocked her on the head in admonishment.
"You haven’t learned your lesson, huh? Fine, if you dare to court death, then I dare to bury you," Lin Haoren laughed.
Su Xiaoran poked out her tongue and said justifyingly, "It won’t happen again. I’m only like this because I had dinner twice."
"Oh? Then, it wasn’t really my fault? I guess I don’t actually need to compensate you. Aren’t you just trying to take advantage of me?" Lin Haoren teased.
"No!" Su Xiaoran panicked upon hearing that Lin Haoren might drop the compensation agreement. Then, she stuttered, "H-how about... I let you take advantage of me, too? That’s fair, right?"
The moment those words left her mouth, her face flushed with embarrassment.
Weren’t those words too ambiguous and suggestive?
