Exiled Prince: I'm the Unexpected Extra in the Novel
Chapter 231: Morning runChapter 231: Morning run
I stared blankly at Celine’s face for several seconds.
"No," I said flatly.
Then I began closing the door.
Celine quickly shoved her foot between the door and the frame.
"Wait!"
"I don’t want to ."
"You haven’t even heard what I want yet."
"You want to go for a morning run. My answer is no."
"We don’t have classes today!"
"That isn’t a reason to wake up at six in the morning."
"You were already awake."
"How do you know that?"
Celine’s gaze dropped to the book in my hand.
"Because you’re holding a book."
There was probably no point hiding it behind my back now.
A few steps away, Lunox yawned while leaning against the wall.
"I told her this was a bad idea."
Celine turned toward her.
"You said, ’Cassian might kill us when he opens the door.’"
"It means the same thing."
"Why did you come?" I asked.
Lunox’s sleepy gaze shifted toward Celine.
"She threatened to break down my door."
"Don’t exaggerate," Celine said. "I only said I would melt it with magic if she didn’t open it."
"That’s the same as breaking it."
That made sense.
I turned back to Celine.
"By the way, what are you doing in the boys’ dormitory at six in the morning?"
Celine proudly placed a hand against her chest.
"I’m a princess. I’m not going to let a few insignificant dormitory rules stop me."
"Your fiancé might not like that."
A hard kick suddenly struck my leg.
The blow couldn’t possibly hurt me, but it was enough to show that Celine was genuinely angry. Her teeth were clenched, and she glared at me with open hatred.
"That bastard is not my fiancé!" she snapped. "And he never will be!"
The anger on her face was then replaced by an extremely serious and determined expression.
"When I become the ruler of this empire, no one will be able to tell me what to do."
I could have told her that I intended to destroy this empire in the future, so she probably shouldn’t become too attached to her dreams of ruling it.
However, starting another argument at six in the morning didn’t seem like a good idea.
Celine continued speaking as if she hadn’t just kicked me.
"We can’t sit in our rooms all day. We’ll get some fresh air and train. It’ll be more fun if the three of us run together."
"There is nothing enjoyable about running in the morning."
"You won’t know until you try."
"I’ve run before."
"Running while chasing someone or being chased doesn’t count."
In truth, I rarely needed to run at all.
I could fly or travel through the shadows.
Still, I had already realized that Celine wasn’t going to leave my door easily.
"What will you do if I refuse to go?" I asked.
"I’ll keep knocking on your door."
"For how long?"
"Until noon."
That was clearly a threat.
Lunox gave me a weary look.
"We both know she’ll do it."
Unfortunately, she was right.
I opened the door a little wider.
"Wait five minutes."
A victorious smile appeared on Celine’s face.
"Great!"
I shut the door in her face.
I changed into a plain black tracksuit. After loosely tying my hair behind my head, I left the room.
Celine looked me up and down.
"So you do own normal clothes."
"Were you expecting me to wear pajamas?"
"I thought you might wear a long black robe or something covered in skulls."
"I don’t own anything covered in skulls."
Lunox studied me thoughtfully.
"It would suit you."
Ignoring both of them, I headed toward the stairs.
Dawn was only beginning to break when we left the dormitory. The sky was changing from dark blue to pale gray, and the Academy’s snow-covered rooftops slowly emerged from the darkness.
The campus was almost completely empty.
Only a few workers were clearing the paths, while several disciplined students headed toward the training grounds.
Celine raised her arms above her head and stretched.
"First, we’ll run five laps around the Academy’s outer walls."
Lunox turned toward her.
"Do you know how long one lap is?"
"How long could it possibly be?"
"About four kilometers."
Celine’s raised arms slowly lowered.
"Four?"
"Yes."
"Five laps might be a little too much."
"This was your idea," I said.
Celine cleared her throat.
"We’ll run one lap first. Then we’ll see how we feel."
We started running.
For the first few minutes, Celine moved unnecessarily fast. She rushed ahead as if we were in a race and occasionally looked back to urge us to move faster.
"Put some effort into it! At this pace, we won’t finish before noon!"
Lunox and I didn’t speed up.
We both knew Celine wouldn’t be able to maintain that pace for long.
As I expected, her steps began to slow after approximately five minutes. After ten minutes, her breathing became uneven. By the fifteenth minute, she had stopped at the side of the path and was panting with her hands on her knees.
Lunox and I continued for a few more steps before stopping and turning toward her.
Celine raised her head with difficulty.
"You..." She tried to take a deep breath. "Why aren’t either of you tired?"
"I train with my sword every day," Lunox said.
Celine looked at me next.
"And you?"
"A mad doctor modified my body so I would never get tired."
The exhaustion on Celine’s face briefly disappeared.
"Was that supposed to be a joke?"
"No."
Her face turned slightly pale.
"Sometimes I regret talking to you."
"Are we going to keep running?" I asked.
"Let’s rest for a minute."
"We haven’t even reached the halfway point of the first lap."
"We are not running five laps!"
Lunox took a small flask from her back and drank some water.
"You’re weak."
Celine turned toward her angrily.
"I’m a princess! It’s normal that my physical endurance isn’t as high as yours."
"You can use mana while running."
"That would be cheating."
"It’s better than losing."
"This isn’t a race!"
"Then why did you keep looking back and smiling when you were ahead?"
Celine couldn’t answer.
She turned her face away and tried to steady her breathing.
At that moment, a small green light appeared near my shoulder.
The light flickered several times in the air before taking on a human form. Nivelle appeared with transparent wings, a small and delicate body, and completely disheveled hair.
The little fairy could barely remain steady in the air. Faint shadows had formed beneath her eyes from exhaustion, and her wings moved unevenly.
"Big Brother..." she said weakly.
"Nivelle?"
Celine and Lunox stared at her in surprise.
Nivelle flew directly onto my shoulder and grabbed my hair to keep her balance.
"I can’t take it anymore."
"What happened?"
"Auralis woke up."
"That’s normal."
"No, she didn’t wake up normally!" Nivelle struck my shoulder with her tiny fist. "When she couldn’t find you in the room, she started crying. Then she set the bed on fire, knocked over the wardrobe, and refused to eat breakfast!"
"Did she damage the walls?"
"Not yet."
"Then there’s no problem."
"How is there no problem?!"
Nivelle began pulling my hair with both hands.
"Big Brother, come and deal with your daughter right now!"
The exhaustion on Celine’s face vanished instantly.
She slowly turned her head toward me.
"Your daughter?"
"Yes," I answered calmly.
Her eyes grew wider.
"You have a daughter?!"
"Yes."
"Since when?"
"For six months. But she’s already the cutest child in the world."
Celine’s mouth fell open.
Lunox looked me up and down before speaking in an extremely serious voice.
"You moved fast."
"It isn’t what you’re thinking. She hatched from an egg."
Celine’s shock only grew.
"SHE HATCHED FROM AN EGG?!"
Nivelle lowered her head into her hands with a tired expression.
"Please ask your questions later. This man, who knows nothing about raising a child, needs to go and calm down his daughter."
Celine looked at Nivelle for a moment, then back at me.
"Cassian... What kind of life have you been living?"
I thought about it for a moment.
There was no short answer to that question.
"Complicated" I said.
