THUD!
A deafening impact echoed throughout the circular hall. The stone floor trembled violently.
Both Noah and Damien instinctively tightened their grips on their swords as they stared at the hidden passage.
Something was coming from there. Another heavy step followed.
THUD!
A massive silhouette slowly emerged from the darkness.
"...What the..."
Noah’s voice trailed off.
For the first time since entering the labyrinth. He genuinely didn’t know what he was looking at.
The creature was enormous. Nearly ten meters tall.
Its entire body was covered in smooth, pitch-black skin that reflected almost no light, making it appear as though it had been sculpted from living darkness itself.
The dark blue dim light from lantern only made it look more dangerous.
Its proportions were disturbingly unnatural. Its arms hung so low that its elongated fingers nearly scraped against the ground.
Its legs were equally long, giving it an unnervingly thin yet towering frame. Its head was completely bald.
There were no ears.
No nose no visible mouth. At least until it slowly lifted its face.
In the center of its head a single enormous crimson eye stared silently into the room.
It blinked once. The scarlet iris glowed faintly in the darkness.
The creature showed no expression.
There was no anger nor excitement. It simply stood there silent and motionless. Like something that had just awakened from an unimaginably long slumber.
Its very existence filled the chamber with an oppressive atmosphere. Even the air itself seemed heavier.
THUD!
The giant took another step. The entire hall shook. Dust rained from the ceiling as tiny cracks spread across the stone floor beneath its foot.
Noah felt his heartbeat quicken.
’It’s powerful...’
That much was obvious. But that wasn’t what disturbed him. Something about this creature felt fundamentally different.
Every monster they had encountered so far possessed mana. Even the strongest among them radiated an identifiable presence.
This thing didn’t. Its existence felt strange.
Wrong.
As though it didn’t belong in this world. A cold chill crawled down Noah’s spine. The giant slowly turned its head. Its lone crimson eye settled upon Damien. For a brief moment there was silence.
Then its face split open. A gigantic mouth stretched across the lower half of its head, revealing countless jagged black teeth.
ROOOOOAAAAARRRRRRR!!
The roar exploded throughout the chamber. A visible shockwave erupted from its mouth.
BOOOOOOM!!
The violent air pressure swept across the hall like a hurricane.
Noah and Damien instinctively crossed their arms before their faces. Their feet slid several meters across the stone floor despite their efforts to remain standing.
The creature raised one enormous arm. Its gigantic palm descended toward Damien like a collapsing mountain.
"...Shit!!"
Golden mana erupted around Damien. His body flashed with brilliant light as he threw himself sideways.
The next instant.
BOOOOOOM!!!
The creature’s palm smashed into the exact spot where Damien had been standing only a heartbeat earlier. The entire hall shook violently.
Stone exploded into the air. A massive crater formed beneath the impact.
Without hesitation Noah counterattacked.
He dashed around the giant’s flank. Mana surged into his blade.
With one swift upward slash.
He used Ice Creation.
Crack!
Gigantic crystal-blue ice spikes burst violently from the ground. One after another. They surrounded the creature from every direction.
Each spike towered several meters high, forming a frozen prison around its massive body. The temperature throughout the hall plummeted instantly.
Cold frost rapidly climbed onto the giant’s legs. For a brief second the monster actually stopped moving.
Noah’s eyes lit up.
Then the giant casually shook one leg.
Crack
Fine fractures spread across every ice spike.
BOOM!!
The entire frozen prison shattered into thousands of glittering fragments.
"...What?"
Noah’s expression stiffened.
Meanwhile Damien had already begun casting another spell. Four brilliant golden magic circles materialized around the giant.
Golden chains forged from concentrated hot light shot outward simultaneously.
Clang!
Two wrapped tightly around its legs. The remaining two restrained both enormous arms. The divine chains glowed intensely as holy flames attempted to burn the creature’s dark skin.
Yet nothing happened. The flames couldn’t even leave scorch marks. The giant merely looked down at the restraints.
ROOOAAARRR!!
With overwhelming brute force it flexed its arms.
SNAP!
One chain broke. Then another.
Within seconds all four light restraints shattered like brittle glass. At the same time Noah raised both hands toward the sky. Nearly forty weapons of crystal ice rapidly materialized above the battlefield.
Swords.
Spears.
Lances.
This took slight toll on Noah’s brain. A small headache started. Each one shimmered beautifully beneath the blue glow of condensed mana.
"...Go!"
With a single command. Every weapon shot downward simultaneously.
Whoooosh!!
The barrage descended like a rain of frozen stars. The creature didn’t even attempt to dodge. The weapons struck its body one after another.
Clang!
Clang!
Clang!
The sound wasn’t flesh being pierced. It was metal striking an indestructible wall. Not a single weapon penetrated its skin. Most shattered on impact. The few that remained intact managed only to leave shallow scratches across its black flesh.
Nothing more.
"...Damn it!"
Noah’s eyes widened. Its durability far exceeded anything he had anticipated. The giant immediately charged toward him.
Despite its colossal size, it moved with terrifying speed.
Noah reacted instantly. He threw himself sideways.
BOOOOOOM!!!
The giant’s fist crashed into the ground where Noah had been standing only an instant earlier. The stone floor exploded beneath the impact.
Chunks of rock flew through the air. The shockwave alone sent Noah tumbling several meters across the chamber before he regained his footing.
Dust filled the hall. For the first time since entering the labyrinth... Both Noah and Damien realized the same thing.
This wasn’t an ordinary floor boss. It was a monster unlike anything they had faced before.
ROOOOOOAAAAARRRRRRR!!!
The giant’s roar became even more ferocious. The sound shook the entire chamber, causing dust and fragments of stone to rain from the ceiling.
Its single crimson eye burned with murderous intent.
Then it attacked.
BOOM!!
This time it was more aggressive.
BOOM!!
Its colossal fist slammed into the floor. The impact shattered the stone tiles and sent a violent shockwave racing across the hall.
Noah and Damien sprang away in opposite directions just before the blow landed. Neither of them had time to counterattack.
They could only evade. The creature gave them no breathing room. They didn’t get much chance to attack or conjure any magic spell.
BOOM!!
Its other fist crashed down immediately afterward. The floor exploded once again. Stone fragments shot through the air like deadly shrapnel.
Noah narrowly twisted his body, avoiding the fist by mere centimeters. The wind pressure alone threw him several meters across the ground.
"...Damn!"
Before he could regain his footing. The monster was already in front of him.
"What?!"
Its speed had increased dramatically. Despite its enormous size, it moved with terrifying agility.
It swung one massive arm horizontally.
Noah instinctively raised layers of ice walls between them.
CRASH!!
The walls shattered instantly.
The attack continued without losing momentum.
Noah crossed his sword in front of his body.
BOOM!!
The impact struck like a speeding boulder. His entire body was launched through the air.
Crack!
A sharp pain exploded through his chest.
Several ribs fractured at once.
"Urgh...!"
Blood spilled from Noah’s mouth as he crashed across the stone floor, tumbling repeatedly before finally coming to a stop against one of the massive pillars.
His vision blurred. Every breath sent unbearable pain through his chest.
Meanwhile Damien wasn’t faring any better.
Golden mana erupted around him as he continuously unleashed radiant sword strikes, trying to keep the monster occupied.
[Heavenly Sacred Radiance]
"Haaah!"
His blade flashed repeatedly. Brilliant arcs of light slammed into the creature’s body.
Yet they barely left more than shallow cuts. The giant didn’t even slow down.
It simply raised one enormous hand.
Damien’s eyes widened. It was too fast.
He couldn’t dodge in time.
BOOOOOOM!!
The gigantic backhand struck him squarely across the chest.
"...Gah!"
The world spun. Damien was sent flying like a broken doll. His body crashed through stone pillar before colliding violently against the far wall.
BOOM!!
The impact echoed throughout the chamber. He slid downward. Landing heavily upon the ancient stone slab engraved with the dragon.
For several seconds, he couldn’t move. Blood slowly seeped through his torn clothes, staining both his armor and the weathered stone beneath him.
His breathing became ragged.
"...Cough..."
A mouthful of blood spilled onto the dragon carving.
The giant slowly turned toward him. Its heavy footsteps echoed through the silent hall.
THUD
THUD
THUD
Each step felt like a hammer striking the ground.
Damien struggled to stand. His arms trembled. His body refused to obey him.
The creature reached him within moments.
Its enormous hand descended.
Before Damien could react. The giant wrapped its massive fingers around his body.
"...Damn...!"
He struggled desperately. Golden mana erupted from him. He slashed repeatedly at the creature’s fingers.
Clang!
Clang!
The attacks accomplished almost nothing. Its grip didn’t loosen even slightly.
Slowly almost leisurely the monster lifted Damien into the air. Its gigantic mouth gradually opened. Rows of jagged black teeth glistened in the blue lantern light. It intended to swallow him whole.
"No! Dammit!" Damien struggled but his body was too weak.
