"Noah..."
Damien’s voice was unusually tense.
"...Do you remember the monster we fought in the dungeon? The one that suddenly started speaking?"
Noah never took his eyes off the giant. He gave a slow nod.
"...I remember."
His grip tightened around his sword.
"But that creature was different. It was being controlled by someone."
He narrowed his frost-blue eyes.
"This one isn’t. It isn’t under anyone’s control... And yet it can speak."
Damien swallowed. A chill ran down his spine.
The creature before them was unlike anything they had ever encountered.
It possessed intelligence. Fragments of memories.
And emotions. That alone made it far more terrifying than an ordinary monster.
Damien slowly rose to his feet despite the pain coursing through his battered body.
Golden mana began gathering around him.
"...I’m using the full power of my Solar Core. If we’re going to survive...We have to go all out."
Noah nodded without hesitation. "Yeah."
A thin layer of crystal-blue frost spread across the edge of his sword. Cold air rippled outward.
This battle would decide whether they lived or died.
The giant suddenly lifted its head.
ROOOOOAAARRR!!
The monstrous roar shook the entire fortress.
Then it charged. The enormous body moved with terrifying speed.
Stone shattered beneath every step.
Noah reacted first. He slammed his foot onto the ground.
He used Ice Creation
CRACK!!
A gigantic pillar of razor-sharp ice erupted from beneath the monster’s foot. The spike shot upward like a spear.
SHRK!
The point pierced into the sole of the giant’s foot. Dark blood sprayed across the frozen crystal.
"...GRAAAAHHH!!"
The monster let out a furious roar.
However the wound was nowhere near deep enough. With overwhelming strength, it simply forced its foot downward.
CRACK!!
The massive ice pillar fractured.
BOOM!!
It shattered into countless pieces.
Without stopping another gigantic ice pillar erupted directly in front of the giant.
The creature answered with pure brute force. It slammed both enormous fists downward.
BOOM!!
BOOM!!
BOOM!!
The pillar exploded apart.
Thousands of ice fragments were blasted high into the air before beginning to rain down throughout the chamber like a deadly hailstorm.
Amid the falling ice two streaks of light shot forward.
One was blue.
Other was golden.
Noah moved like flowing frost.
Damien became a blazing ray of sunlight.
They weaved effortlessly through the deadly rain of ice while charging straight toward the giant.
Golden and blue mana erupted simultaneously.
Noah swung his sword.
[Still Surface Cut]
A nearly invisible crescent of frozen mana silently sliced through the air.
At the same time Damien unleashed a barrage of radiant sword slashes.
Golden arcs crossed the battlefield one after another.
The giant crossed its arms instinctively. Even though it couldn’t see it could sense it.The attacks struck almost simultaneously.
Small cuts appeared across its body. Not deep but enough to force it backward.
Noah immediately continued his assault.
A massive greatsword of solid ice rapidly materialized beside the monster. Rather than throwing it. He leaped onto its broad, flat blade.
The enormous weapon floated through the air beneath his control.
It was the first time Noah had attempted such a technique during combat. Maintaining his balance proved far more difficult than expected.
The sword wobbled beneath his feet.
Still he pushed forward.
As the floating blade carried him beside the giant’s shoulder.
Noah jumped. He landed directly upon the creature’s massive shoulder.
With every ounce of strength remaining in his battered body. He swung his sword toward its neck.
CLANG!
The blade barely cut through the skin. Only a shallow wound appeared.
"What?!"
The giant roared in fury. Its enormous hand immediately reached toward its shoulder.
Noah didn’t hesitate. He kicked off the creature’s body.
Landing upon the stone floor, he rolled several times before regaining his footing.
Meanwhile Damien slipped beneath the gap between the monster’s legs.
Thanks to the destruction of its only eye. The giant had completely lost its vision.
Now it swung its arms wildly in every direction, relying solely on instinct and sound.
That blindness created the opening they desperately needed.
Noah’s frost-blue eyes glowed brilliantly as he went in front of monster. He stood meters away from it.
Beautiful trails of icy light followed every movement he made.
He raised one hand. All around the battlefield. The countless shards of shattered ice suddenly stopped falling.
For a single moment. It was as if time itself had frozen.
Then the fragments trembled.
One after another, every shard rose into the air. Hundreds of glittering crystals floated around Noah.
Responding to his will. They rapidly converged before him.
The countless pieces merged together.
They compressed. They condensed. And then refined.
Gradually an enormous lance of crystal ice took shape. It was nearly eight meters in length.
It was far denser than any weapon Noah had created before.
Its tip gleamed with frightening sharpness.
Then the lance began to spin. Slowly at first then faster.
Faster. Until it became nothing more than a blue blur. The rotation generated a violent vortex.
Winds howled around the weapon.
Remaining ice fragments were swept into the spiraling current, circling the lance like a frozen storm.
The amount of mana Noah poured into it was absurd. His veins bulged beneath his skin. Blood trickled from the corners of his eyes.
"...Cough!"
He spat another mouthful of blood.
Yet he refused to stop.
On the opposite side Damien had already reached the monster’s back.
He bent his knees. Golden mana exploded beneath his feet.
BOOM!!
He launched himself high into the air. Landing perfectly atop the giant’s shoulder.
The monster continued swinging blindly, unable to locate either of them.
Damien slowly raised his sword. His golden eyes shone with blinding brilliance.
The light surrounding him grew hotter.
Brighter.
More intense.
Then a miniature sun began to form from within him.
A sphere of condensed solar mana.
Radiating divine heat. It expanded rapidly.
The temperature throughout the hall soared.
Even the surrounding stone started glowing from the intense heat.
The blazing sun grew larger still. Until it completely engulfed the giant’s upper body.
GRAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!
For the second time. The creature truly screamed in agony. But it was more painful than the last scream, when it’s eye was injured.
Its black skin began burning. Smoke poured from its body. Dark flesh charred beneath the divine flames.
The entire chamber became as bright as daylight. Watching the blazing sun from across the battlefield.
Noah smiled faintly despite the blood covering his face.
"Good job...Damien."
He poured the last of his remaining mana into the spinning lance. The frozen weapon screamed through the air as the surrounding vortex intensified.
Finally the miniature sun faded.
Its energy exhausted.
Damien immediately jumped from the monster’s shoulder before the remaining flames consumed him as well.
He landed heavily upon the ground.
Panting and completely drained.
The giant still stood. Half of its upper body had been burned black.
Smoke continued rising from the charred flesh. Its breathing became heavy.
It was labored, weak and yet it remained standing.
The monster opened its mouth.
One final roar escaped.
ROOOOOOOOOAAARRRRRRRRR!!
Noah’s eyes sharpened.
"...Now."
He thrust his hand forward. The enormous ice lance vanished.
No. It accelerated so quickly that it became invisible. A blue flash crossed the battlefield.
SHRRRRRK!!
The spinning lance pierced directly through the giant’s chest.
Its rotation drilled effortlessly through burned flesh, muscle, and bone before bursting out from its back.
A massive hole remained where its heart should have been.
The lance continued flying.
BOOOOOOM!!
It slammed into the far wall of the chamber, exploding with enough force to shake the entire ruin.
The giant remained motionless.
Still standing. For several long seconds. Neither Noah nor Damien breathed.
Then its colossal body slowly leaned backward.
THUD!!
The giant crashed onto the stone floor. The impact shook the entire hall. Dark blood poured endlessly from the gaping hole in its chest.
Silence finally descended upon the ancient ruin. After a battle that had pushed both of them to their absolute limits.
The creature who looked like the guardian of the final floor had fallen.
