Extra's Path: The Eternal Frost Monarch

Noah continued staring at the enormous crimson portal. More monsters poured out without pause.

One after another, their grotesque white bodies emerged from the swirling red surface before scattering into the surrounding forest.

Noah’s expression grew increasingly grim.

"What should I do...?"

He rubbed his forehead in frustration.

"Dammit. This is way beyond me."

He had no idea what the platform was, why it had suddenly activated, or why the same creatures from the labyrinth were now emerging from it.

’Once again, I have to deal with something completely unknown.’

Noah clicked his tongue.

’Damn it! I’m seriously jealous of those transmigrators who remember every single event from the future.’

He possessed no knowledge about the game. And right now, complaining wouldn’t solve anything.

Noah took a deep breath.

"Fine."

His eyes narrowed at the platform below.

"Let’s get closer first. Maybe there’s some way to deactivate it."

The massive ice sword beneath his feet slowly tilted forward. Noah concentrated.

Whoosh!

It began moving toward the clearing.

He deliberately kept his speed low. Flying faster would only make controlling the sword more difficult, and the last thing he wanted was to lose his balance and fall directly into that strange crimson energy.

Soon, he passed above the portal itself.

Noah looked down.

"...That’s disturbing."

The portal stretched horizontally across most of the circular platform like a massive pool of swirling crimson energy.

From above, he could clearly see creatures forcing themselves through its surface. Hands appeared first. Then heads. Then entire bodies crawled free.

SCREEECH!!

Some immediately charged into the forest, while others wandered around the platform as though searching for prey.

Noah’s gaze moved toward the edges.

’There.’

One section of the forest beside the clearing was relatively empty. Most of the monsters seemed interested in spreading outward rather than remaining close to the portal.

"Good enough."

Noah guided his sword toward it. The ice blade gradually descended between the trees.

Thud!

The sword touched the muddy ground. Noah immediately jumped off. The moment his boots landed on the soil, he released his control.

Crack!

The enormous sword shattered into hundreds of tiny ice fragments before dissolving into cold mist.

Noah straightened himself. From here, the situation looked even worse.

SCREECH!

ROAR!!

Monster cries echoed continuously through the forest. The crimson glow from the portal illuminated the trees, mixing strangely with the blue flashes of Akari’s storm above.

Noah cautiously moved forward. He didn’t draw his sword yet.

Instead, his mana circulated continuously through his body, ready to respond the instant something attacked him.

Rustle!

Noah’s head snapped toward his right. One of the pale creatures burst through the bushes.

Its red eyes immediately locked onto him.

"Of course."

The creature lunged. Noah didn’t even stop walking. He casually raised his right hand.

Crack!

An ice sword formed beside him.

With a flick of his fingers.

Whoosh!

The sword shot forward like an arrow.

SHRK!

It pierced directly through the monster’s skull. The creature’s body was thrown backward before crashing onto the ground.

Thud!

It was dead.

Noah glanced at it only briefly. These individual creatures weren’t the problem anymore. Not after how much stronger he had become.

His eyes returned to the enormous crimson portal.

"The problem..."

His expression became serious.

"...is that thing."

No matter how many monsters he killed, more would simply replace them. So Noah continued toward the platform. He needed to find the source.

And somehow he needed to shut it down.

The strange crimson energy continued leaking from the portal.

Wherever it touched, destruction followed.

Grass withered and dissolved. Tree bark blackened before slowly crumbling away. Even the soil seemed to lose its vitality, turning dark and lifeless beneath the spreading energy.

Noah cautiously moved closer.

His attention shifted toward the stone pillars surrounding the circular platform. The crystal orbs resting atop them were still glowing bright red.

’What if I destroy those?’

It was the most obvious solution. Perhaps the crystals were supplying energy to the portal—or acting as anchors keeping it open.

"Only one way to find out."

Noah extended his hand.

Crack!

A long spear of condensed ice formed beside him. He aimed directly at the nearest crystal.

"Go."

WHOOSH!

The spear shot forward like an arrow, leaving a clean blue trail behind it.

THUD!!

It struck the crystal dead center. The ice spear shattered instantly.

Noah’s eyes widened.

"What?"

He stared at the crystal. There wasn’t even a scratch.

"...Is it really that hard?"

His expression darkened. ’What am I supposed to do?’

SCREEECH!!

Noah turned. Another horde of monsters was rushing toward him. Twenty of them or perhaps more.

Normally, Noah would’ve prepared himself for battle.

But right now he was irritated. His frost-blue eyes suddenly began glowing. His expression became blank. The frustration disappeared. Then the fear. Then the hesitation.

One emotion after another faded until only an unnatural coldness remained.

[Monarch’s Decree]

An invisible pressure descended upon the clearing. The charging creatures suddenly stopped. Their bodies trembled. Several instinctively lowered themselves. They were weaker than Noah.

And before the authority carried within his bloodline, their instincts screamed only one thing.

Noah raised one hand. The earth beneath the monsters froze.

CRACK!

Dozens of thin, needle-like ice spikes erupted upward.

SHRK! SHRK! SHRK!

They tore through flesh. The entire group was impaled almost simultaneously, their bodies lifted from the ground upon a forest of bloody ice needles.

Noah didn’t even look at them again. A sword appeared in his hand.

"If attacking from a distance doesn’t work..."

He stared at the nearest crystal.

"I’ll do it directly."

He stepped forward. Immediately, the pressure coming from the portal intensified.

Noah stopped.

’Can I even approach that thing without being harmed?’

The crimson energy was clearly dangerous. He wasn’t stupid enough to test it with his bare skin. Cold mana surged from his core.

Crack! Crack!

Ice spread upward from his boots, across his legs, from his waist, chest and arms. Within seconds, Noah had covered almost his entire body in a thin layer of protective ice.
