Extra's Sign In System: The Hero's an Idiot!
Chapter 188: The Stone Gate DefenseThe sheer weight of the monster horde was suffocating.
The unified army of Elves and Dwarves had fought bravely in the grand plaza. They executed Draven’s precise commands with lethal efficiency.
But the King Level Beast possessed an underground army numbering in the tens of thousands. There were simply too many bodies.
The frontline was slowly forced backward down the mountain roads.
They retreated to the lower fortifications. The massive Stone Gates of Thaldrasil loomed behind them. The gates were carved from solid mountain bedrock.
It was the ultimate defensive bottleneck. If the monsters breached this archway, they would flood directly into the civilian sectors of the city.
The retreat stopped here.
Bram Stonehelm stood squarely in the center of the massive archway. The Vanguard giant planted his heavy iron boots into the cracked cobblestones. He gripped his massive tower shield with both hands.
"Hold the line!" Bram roared at the top of his lungs.
A tidal wave of corrupted goblin-mutants and zombified mountain beasts crashed into the Dwarven shield wall.
CRASH!
The kinetic impact was deafening. Dozens of Dwarven infantrymen groaned loudly under the immense pressure. Shields buckled. Spears snapped.
Bram did not move a single inch.
His skin had fully transformed. The pale flesh of his arms and neck hardened into thick, dark gray titan-stone.
He was utilizing the pure physical blessing of his Giant Legacy. His body was a literal pillar of rock anchoring the entire defense.
To his left, Aegon Logcheville became a blur of crimson violence.
Aegon spun his custom-forged spear in wide, devastating arcs. He cleaved through the dense shadow armor of the zombified beasts.
Every thrust of his weapon delivered a blistering payload of Blood Fire. The flames incinerated the rotting flesh instantly.
To his right, Reina Frost maintained a chilling, lethal rhythm.
She swung her heavy double-sided axe with terrifying grace. She did not aim for the thickest armor. She targeted the joints and tendons of the mutated monsters.
A single graze from her blade froze the dark matter solid. A second strike shattered the frozen limbs into glittering dust.
"They just keep coming," Reina grunted. She kicked a frozen goblin into a dozen pieces. "The numbers are ridiculous."
"Are you getting tired, Frost?" Aegon yelled over the chaos. He flashed a reckless, bloodthirsty grin.
"I am just getting bored, Logcheville," Reina shot back smoothly.
Suddenly, the screeching sea of monsters parted.
The smaller goblins and shadow hounds scrambled wildly out of the way. They threw themselves against the stone walls to clear a wide path down the center of the bloody road.
Heavy, earth-shattering footsteps echoed through the bottleneck.
THUD.
THUD.
Aegon stopped grinning. Reina tightened her grip on her heavy axe.
Four massive, terrifying beasts marched slowly into the clearing. They were the King Level Beast’s elite siege-breakers.
They resembled giant, muscular rhinoceroses. But they were sickeningly corrupted. Their bodies were covered in jagged plates of dense dark matter.
Most horrifying of all, they did not have heads. Their thick, muscular necks ended abruptly in massive, blunt battering rams forged purely from highly condensed shadow magic.
They were biological siege engines designed specifically to shatter defensive walls.
"Those are new," Aegon muttered. He wiped a streak of monster blood from his cheek.
The four headless rhinos scraped their heavy hooves against the stone. They lowered their shadowy battering rams. They charged simultaneously directly at the center of the gate.
"Dwarves, fall back!" Bram bellowed, pushing the ordinary soldiers away from the impact zone. "They will crush your iron!"
Bram stepped entirely out of the formation. He stood alone in the center of the road.
He knew standard blocking techniques would fail against that level of concentrated kinetic force. A normal man would have his arms snapped like dry twigs.
But Bram was not a normal man. He remembered the excruciating trials of the Iron Peak. He remembered the Titan marrow burning in his veins.
He dropped his massive tower shield.
He raised his bare, stone-covered arms directly in front of his chest.
[Titan’s Anvil]
The first elite rhino crashed directly into Bram.
KRAKOOM!
A terrifying shockwave of displaced air ripped through the archway. The stone ground beneath Bram’s boots instantly shattered into a deep crater.
Bram did not fly backward. He caught the blunt, shadowy battering ram with his bare forearms.
The immense kinetic impact of the charge did not break his bones. The new skill activated flawlessly. The crushing physical force rippled through his titan-stone skin.
The energy was violently absorbed by his marrow. Instead of tearing his muscle tissue, the absorbed kinetic impact actively fueled his cellular regeneration.
Every tiny micro-tear in his muscles knitted back together instantly. He grew stronger from the strike. He was a living, breathing anvil.
Bram let out a guttural, booming roar. He grabbed the shadowy battering ram with his massive hands. He twisted his torso and violently suplexed the multi-ton rhino directly into the stone wall.
CRUNCH!
The beast’s dark armor shattered entirely under the extreme physical trauma.
"Three left!" Bram yelled, his voice vibrating with raw titan energy.
Aegon watched the remaining three rhinos adjust their footing. The surrounding horde of smaller monsters began to swarm forward to support the elites.
"We cannot fight them one by one," Aegon noted. His breathing was heavy. The constant, brutal melee was finally taking a toll on his human stamina.
Aegon closed his eyes for a fraction of a second. He stopped resisting the physical pain. He welcomed the exhaustion. He embraced the agonizing burn in his lungs.
[The Asura’s Devouring Crucible]
The hidden constitution flared to life. The physical combat stress did not weaken him. It acted as raw, explosive fuel.
The crimson flames wrapping around his body instantly shifted into a deep, terrifying, blinding red. The heat radiating from his skin warped the air itself.
"Reina!" Aegon shouted, pointing his spear at the swarming horde and the charging rhinos.
"We need to clear the board! Give me a vortex!"
Reina understood immediately. A cold, fierce smirk touched her lips.
"Do not melt my ice before it lands, idiot," Reina warned.
Reina leaped high into the air. She channeled every ounce of her glacial mana into her heavy axe. She spun violently, unleashing a massive, localized blizzard directly into the center of the bottleneck.
Thousands of razor-sharp shards of ice erupted from her blade. They swirled into a towering, violent, freezing tornado.
The intense vortex trapped the three charging rhinos and hundreds of smaller monsters inside a blinding storm of absolute zero temperatures.
The monsters shrieked as the deep freeze locked their joints and made their dark armor incredibly brittle.
Aegon did not wait. He sprinted directly toward the swirling blizzard.
He jumped into the very center of the freezing vortex. He slammed his blazing spear into the frozen cobblestones. He unleashed the fully overloaded power of his crucible.
FWOOSH!
The crimson fire violently collided with the freezing blizzard.
Aegon did not melt the ice. He merged with it. The raw, blistering heat caught the swirling wind currents. The freezing tornado instantly ignited.
A blazing ice-tornado was born.
It was a terrifying paradox of extreme elements. The razor-sharp shards of ice continued to shred the monsters while the blistering Blood Fire incinerated their wounds.
The most devastating effect was the rapid thermal shock.
The elite rhinos were frozen solid one second, then blasted with thousand-degree heat the next.
The highly condensed dark matter armor simply could not handle the violent fluctuation in temperature.
SHATTER!
The heavy armor on the elite siege-breakers violently exploded. The rhinos were ripped apart by the blistering winds, their bodies disintegrating into harmless gray ash.
The swirling vortex of fire and ice expanded, completely wiping out the entire vanguard of the monster horde in a single, devastating elemental display.
The tornado slowly faded away.
Aegon stood in the center of the scorched, frozen road. He leaned heavily on his spear, panting wildly. Reina landed softly on a patch of clean ice beside him.
The massive road leading to the Stone Gates was completely empty.
The Elven and Dwarven soldiers staring from the defensive lines were completely silent. Then, a single Dwarven infantryman slammed his axe against his shield.
A massive, deafening roar of victory erupted from the unified army. The ground defense had held. The elites were dead.
Bram rolled his shoulders. His gray skin slowly returned to its normal, pale human tone. He walked over to his two teammates, a proud smile forming beneath his heavy red beard.
"Good work," Bram rumbled deeply.
Aegon offered a tired, genuine grin. Reina simply nodded, wiping a bead of sweat from her forehead.
Far above them, Draven watched the successful defense from the high balcony. The tactical bottleneck was secure.
However, the battlefield suddenly grew incredibly dark.
The bright morning sun was completely blotted out. The shadows in the plaza deepened unnaturally.
Bram looked down at the cobblestones. He realized the darkness was not coming from a cloud. It was a massive, moving shadow.
The three Vanguard fighters slowly looked up toward the sky.
The victory cheers from the Dwarven infantry died instantly in their throats.
The sky above Thaldrasil was entirely black. Thousands of massive, leathery wings blotted out the sun.
Aerial horrors, giant shadow-drakes, and flying centipedes circled the Verdant Canopy like a swarm of angry locusts.
The ground war was merely the distraction. The true threat was descending from the clouds.
