Chapter 199: Chapter 199: The Adrenaline Crash

Chapter 199: The Adrenaline Crash

The underground bunker was filled with the soft sounds of relief and quiet tears. Lady Logcheville was still holding her son. Seraphina Vance had her arms wrapped tightly around Reina.

For exactly two minutes, it was a perfect, peaceful reunion.

Then, the survival instincts finally faded.

CLANG!

Cole dropped his heavy metal hammer. The heavy weapon hit the polished concrete floor with a deafening ring.

The young blacksmith fell hard onto his hands and knees. He grabbed the front of his soot-stained shirt, gasping violently for air. His eyes were wide and unfocused.

He stared at the floor, but he was not seeing the bunker. He was seeing the molten slag, the screaming faces of the King Level Beast, and the terrifying heat of the Forge-King.

"I cannot breathe," Cole choked out, his chest heaving in a severe panic attack.

"We were dead. We died in the mountain."

"Cole!" Lucien called out, stepping forward to help his friend.

Lucien did not make it two steps.

The elegant swordsman froze in place. He dropped his silver rapier. He brought his shaking hands up to his face, pressing his palms against his eyes.

"My eyes," Lucien whispered, his voice laced with sudden, rising panic.

"Everything is white. I cannot see."

BZZZT!

Violent, blinding blue electricity erupted from Lucien’s skin. The lightning of his Level 100 threshold violently rejected his conscious control.

Lucien collapsed to the floor. His muscles locked up completely. He began to seize, his body thrashing against the concrete as stray lightning bolts scorched the ground around him.

"Medical team, deploy immediately!" Helion Goldmane roared, his booming voice echoing through the comms device on his collar.

Helion did not wait for the medics. The Lord Commander stepped directly into the violent radius of Lucien’s stray lightning.

Helion unleashed a dense wave of his golden Level 200 aura. He did not suppress the boy. He acted as a living grounding rod.

The wild blue lightning struck Helion’s golden armor and safely dissipated into the floor.

Seraphina Vance was already on her knees beside Cole.

Her hands glowed with a soothing, brilliant white light. She pressed her palms flat against Cole’s back.

[Seraphic Restoration]

"Listen to my voice, Cole," Seraphina ordered firmly, her tone leaving no room for panic.

"Match my breathing. Inhale for four seconds. Hold. Exhale."

Cole continued to hyperventilate, tears streaming down his soot-stained face. The emotional turbulence of the last two weeks was finally crushing him.

Aegon Logcheville tried to step forward to help his squadmates, but his knees violently buckled.

Lady Logcheville caught her son before he hit the floor. Aegon’s dark armor was radiating a blistering, unnatural heat. The Crimson-Fire Hound spirit inside his chest was misfiring, threatening to boil his blood.

"Mother, step back," Aegon rasped, his face pale and covered in sweat.

"The heat will burn you."

"I am not going anywhere, Aegon," Lady Logcheville said firmly.

She ignored the searing heat of the metal plates and held his heavy frame steady. She looked at Seraphina with deep, heartbreaking concern.

"What is happening to them? They were fine a moment ago."

"It is the adrenaline crash," Seraphina explained rapidly, keeping her glowing hands firmly on Cole’s back.

"The human body is designed to survive at all costs. While they were in the Dead Zone, their brains locked away the trauma, the fear, and the physical exhaustion just to keep them moving."

Seraphina looked at Reina, who was shivering violently and coughing up freezing mist.

"Now that they are inside the gates, their minds recognize they are safe," Seraphina continued sadly.

"The survival lock is breaking. The emotional turbulence is flooding their nervous systems all at once."

Helion knelt beside the seizing Lucien. He placed a heavy, glowing golden hand gently on the swordsman’s chest, stabilizing the violent electrical misfires.

"It is not just the emotions," Helion added, his golden eyes scanning the squad.

"Look at the density of their mana. They have suppressed Level 100 thresholds and newly acquired elemental spirits clashing inside completely exhausted bodies. They are holding back an ocean of magic behind a cracked dam."

Draven stood quietly near the Vanguard transport vehicle.

He realized he did not need to step in. The veterans understood the terrible cost of war. They knew exactly how to handle the fallout.

The heavy elevator doors dinged open.

A team of eight elite Vanguard medics rushed into the bunker. They were wearing heavy, insulated protective gear. They carried specialized stretchers lined with lead and runic dampeners.

"Lord Commander," the lead medic shouted, assessing the chaotic room.

"We brought the suppression gear."

"Be gentle with them," Helion ordered, stepping back to let the medics access Lucien.

"His nervous system is severely overloaded. The lightning blinded him temporarily, and the seizures are causing muscle tearing. Administer a heavy mana-relaxant and get him into a lead-lined stretcher."

The medics moved with incredible efficiency. They carefully secured Lucien.

Another team of medics gently lifted Cole. The blacksmith was no longer hyperventilating, thanks to Seraphina’s magic, but he was completely catatonic. He stared blankly at the ceiling, utterly drained of all energy.

Lady Logcheville stepped back, allowing the medics to secure Aegon. She watched them load her son onto a stretcher.

"They will recover," Seraphina said softly, placing a comforting hand on Lady Logcheville’s shoulder.

"I know," Lady Logcheville whispered, wiping her cheek quickly.

"But it never gets easier to witness. They are so young to be carrying this much weight."

"It is the reality of our world," Seraphina replied, her voice thick with shared sorrow.

"Missions like these cause severe physical and emotional turbulence. But they are surrounded by allies. They just need time and a safe place to adapt to their new power."

Nyx Vespera stood near the wall, leaning heavily against the concrete. Her dark eyes were half-closed. Her new Shadow-Panther spirit was actively leaking from her boots, turning the floor into a puddle of black liquid.

"I can walk," Nyx muttered stubbornly as a medic approached her with a stretcher.

She took one step and immediately collapsed.

Estella caught her. The Star Mage was pale and shaking, but she held her friend steady.

Astraxion, the evolved Void Dragon, crawled out of Estella’s jacket.

The mythical creature wrapped its warm, scaly body around Estella’s neck, emitting a deep, soothing purr to help calm her racing heart.

"Do not be stubborn, Nyx," Estella whispered tiredly. "Let them help us."

Nyx did not argue again. She let the medics load her onto the stretcher.

Helion turned toward the far end of the bunker. With a simple wave of his hand, the massive, foot-thick steel doors of the underground evolution vaults slowly groaned open.

"Move them inside," Helion commanded the medical team.

"Seal the chambers. Do not disturb them under any circumstances. They need to sleep, and their cores need room to safely expand."

The medics wheeled the stretchers into the heavily fortified steel rooms. Seraphina and Lady Logcheville followed closely behind, refusing to leave until they saw their children safely secured in the beds.

Draven watched the last stretcher disappear into the vaults.

The adrenaline was finally gone. The desperate fight for survival was officially over. Strike Team Zero was safe, surrounded by the strongest defenders in the city.

The heavy steel doors of the evolution vaults slowly slid shut.

BOOM.

The locking mechanisms engaged, sealing the squad inside to undergo the long, agonizing process of their Level 100 Awakenings.

Draven stood alone in the center of the quiet bunker. Helion Goldmane turned around and looked at the young man in the white mask.

The Lord Commander noted that Draven was the only one who had not collapsed.
