Extra's Strategy: Cultivate Protagonists, Become Invincible
Chapter 284: Senior BodyguardsSince learning that his meridians were degenerating day by day, Han Xuhan had started researching alternatives to Mystic Path Cultivation.
His first solution had been cultivating the martial path. But that, too, turned out to be half a lost cause because of his bizarre physique.
So, with both of those orthodox paths of cultivation barred, his only way ahead lay with Monasticism. But this road was notoriously difficult to tread. Even after months of research, his gains weren’t much.
What he did learn was that for one to walk the path of Monastic Cultivation, a methodical, intentional approach would not necessarily produce any result. But getting the basics right was a must.
A monastic cultivator had to have a powerful, stable spiritual self. Without a well -developed spirituality, one could not hope to perceive the subtle opportunities around them that could form the steps to climb the Monastic Path.
If one didn’t naturally possess such a boon, they could only try to adapt and cultivate themselves towards that goal first.
For a low-level cultivator like Han Xuhan, his strongest spiritual self was naturally his soul. And coincidentally, his soul was in a messy condition due to the transmigration and body possession.
There were two souls fused inside his body, one his own and the other a native of this world. The former was the dominant personality, and the latter was a barely present inner self that sometimes affected his sentiments and decisions.
Hence, his first task would ideally be to clean up the mess, fixing his soul with every possible means. In this respect, a suggestion from Xiao Wu a while back had struck his thoughts.
The original owner of his body, a youth who had grown up in an orphanage, had a firm wish to return to his hometown and contribute to the orphanage in any way he could. According to Xiao Wu, the realization of this wish could settle the spiritual disturbance between the two fused souls.
Han Xuhan had also discussed this matter with Elder Kong Ye. The man had actually praised Xiao Wu’s suggestion.
"Monasticism doesn’t have a standard approach. But most of those who cultivate this road do what they can to reduce their karmic ties to the bare minimum.
Not owing anyone a thing is always a good thing for your spiritual development. In fact, most sects recommend doing this before you enter your tribulation phase at the peak of the Physique Transformation realm.
Otherwise, the chances of developing heart demons and spiritual weaknesses increase greatly once you ascend to the Soul Reformation realm!"
To Han Xuhan, Kong Ye’s advice was concise.
"Look through the memories of both of your souls. Don’t ignore anything that can be used to stimulate your inner selves due to emotional attachments or strong desires.
By settling these issues, not only will the fusion between your souls be perfected, but some extra benefits can also be guaranteed. After all, having two souls means having twice the spirituality compared to an ordinary cultivator!"
Kong Ye’s advice had emboldened Han Xuhan. If it turned out to be true, then his potential as a Monastic Cultivator wasn’t low!
And more importantly, this path couldn’t be barred by bizarre physiques or a lack of affinities! It was a path of pure comprehension and enlightening insights!
Unfortunately, most of the youth’s memories had become vague after the fusion, making things difficult to recall. Despite racking through his fused memories, Han Xuhan couldn’t find any other wish of that kid that could count as unfinished business or significant karmic ties.
So, since then, he had decided to visit the original body-owner’s hometown. Even if it didn’t yield a result, no such stones could be left unturned.
But this would mean Han Xuhan had to leave the sect. In this world of cultivation, the sect was his biggest protective shield. Out there, exposed to the unknown dangers lying in wait, a weak and ill-fated cultivator like him would be lucky to survive such a journey.
The only time he had ventured out of the sect, he had escaped death by sheer luck and a whole lot of scheming. A simple task given by the Sect had turned out to be a deadly trap...
This was why he had kept waiting for an opportunity. And right now, he had one.
"Senior Brother Lin! Wait for me!"
Hearing his shout, the older youth and his group paused in the distant mountain road leading out of the Crimson Snow Sect’s territory.
Han Xuhan ran over with a large bag on his back, a little out of breath.
"Junior Brother Xuhan! What’s going on?" Senior Brother Lin asked curiously.
"I have some work to do outside the sect. I need to visit the Bullhorn Mountain Range. Can I go with you?"
Senior Brother Lin looked at him suspiciously. "How did you know we’re going that way, Xuhan? Our final task from the Sect is a secret."
Han Xuhan produced a token from his pocket. "Naturally, I know it because the person who issued your task told me. I even got permission from him to leave with you!"
Seeing his honest smile and the Sect Master’s seal on the token, Senior Brother Lin’s cautious look disappeared. He slung an arm around Han Xuhan’s shoulders and led him into their small group.
The older generation disciples there all knew Han Xuhan. They had worked in the Archives Pavilion alongside Disciple Lin, and Han Xuhan had befriended them one by one using all kinds of excuses during his extensive research in the Archives.
Back then, none of them had imagined that this friendly, harmless-looking junior, who was always troubled by his lack of talent and his problematic physique, was actually capable of defeating someone in their generation!
Having witnessed that incredible duel between Han Xuhan and Chen Yan, their feelings towards him had gotten a bit... complicated; jealousy, admiration, and intrigue, a mix of many sentiments.
The looks he received from these senior brothers and sisters naturally didn’t escape Han Xuhan’s sharp perception. But it only delighted him.
Perfect! The more attention he got from them, the less his chances of being harmed by an outside force. This group of senior disciples was just good enough to act as his bodyguards.
He had to be the center of this group’s focus, at least until he reached Green Curtain City and tracked down his orphanage.
