Fairy Tail : I am Ankhseram
Chapter 509 - 509: While the Snipe and Clam Fight"Ankh!"
The others excitedly gathered around him.
After a brief hesitation, the members of Diabolos also approached.
Compared with a war that was already clearly lost, dealing with the Fire Dragon God and Fire and Flame had become the far more urgent problem.
Laxus looked Ankh over and noticed that he barely seemed exhausted.
"You didn't run into any enemies?"
"I did. Erza and Kagura took two of them off my hands, so I went to capture Guiltina's commander and force their army to surrender. Then I ran into someone from Fire and Flame."
The members of Fire and Flame immediately thought of their missing companion.
Their original plan had been simple: each member would split up, find a powerful mage on the battlefield, defeat them, and use the victory to spread the glory of the Fire Dragon God.
If Raj had run into a man capable of punching Ignia out of the sky…
He was probably dead.
Boom—!
Just as everyone began to relax slightly, the already fragile ice beneath them exploded apart.
An enormous figure burst from the sea.
Ignia — Dragon Form.
Obvious fury burned within Ignia's vertical pupils.
"Foolish human! You're dead!"
His murderous gaze locked onto Ankh, the man who had punched him into the ocean.
Then Ignia suddenly froze.
"So that's it…"
"You're the human who nearly killed Acnologia!"
Ignia abruptly burst into wild laughter.
The fiery clouds around him gathered until they completely enveloped his gigantic draconic body.
Then that boiling mass of flame descended from the sky and landed above the steaming sea.
A tall figure emerged from within it.
He had fiery red hair streaked with pure black, along with black flame-like markings across his cheeks.
His upper body was bare, revealing a black sun tattoo on the left side of his torso, while sinister black patterns extended all the way down his left arm.
In human form, Ignia looked like a young man who radiated overwhelming pressure simply by standing there.
Ignia — Human Form.
"He turned into a human?"
Erza looked at him curiously.
The dragons they had encountered in the past had generally seemed far more comfortable in their true draconic bodies.
Scorching heat constantly rolled from Ignia as he looked down at the group standing across the wreckage of several warships.
His attention lingered especially on Ankh.
"So Acnologia nearly died to a human," Ignia said with a faint laugh. "Looks like he hasn't improved much in the last four hundred years."
Ankh raised an eyebrow.
"I heard you were the one Acnologia beat so badly that you fled Ishgar with your tail between your legs."
The Diabolos members immediately gave Ignia strange looks.
As a Dragon Eater guild that considered the Five Dragon Gods its ultimate targets, Diabolos had naturally researched their origins.
Four hundred years ago, during Ishgar's Dragon King Festival, Acnologia had slaughtered dragons almost single-handedly.
The Five Dragon Gods had been among the strongest dragons driven out of Ishgar during that era.
Supposedly, according to information their guild master had obtained from a certain old man, four centuries of growth had raised the Five Dragon Gods to a level equal to—or perhaps even beyond—Acnologia.
But that had ultimately been someone else's claim.
Kirin's experience moments earlier had already demonstrated the reality.
The Dragon Eaters who had once confidently dreamed of devouring the Five Dragon Gods had joined forces against Ignia and discovered they could barely withstand a single claw.
Ignia showed no embarrassment at having his past exposed.
Instead, he clenched his fist and grinned savagely.
"Four hundred years have passed."
"I now possess power greater than Acnologia's."
"The power of a god!"
"I will be the one who kills Acnologia!"
The moment those words left his mouth, Ankh's eyes sharpened.
Orange-red flames suddenly filled his entire vision.
Ignia's fist came crashing forward, wrapped in an enormous inferno.
Ankh drew the Dragon God's Arsenal.
Its blade transformed into a deep crimson fire attribute and slammed directly against Ignia's fist.
The instant they collided—the entire ocean seemed to reach its boiling point.
The world turned red.
An enormous battlefield of flame spread across the sea, burning everything around it.
The ocean boiled violently as unimaginable quantities of seawater were instantly vaporized.
The resulting blast of heat hurled every spectator away.
"HOT! HOT! IT'S BURNING!"
Haku screamed while flailing in the sea.
Misaki quickly grabbed her and pulled her out, then stared back at the terrifying battlefield with horror in her eyes.
Flames burned directly across the surface of the ocean.
The seawater bubbled like a boiling hot spring, and the closer it was to the center of the battle, the more violently it churned.
At the very heart of the crimson sea, so much water had been evaporated that the seafloor itself had been exposed, creating an enormous battlefield that refused to refill.
Within it, the others could only faintly make out two figures repeatedly colliding.
"So this is the power of the Fire Dragon God…"
Kirin's expression turned bitter.
He could not help remembering the soul of the Lightning Dragon King sealed inside the coffin on his back.
The Lightning Dragon King had eventually been killed by Diabolos's guild master.
But by then, Elexion had already been badly diminished by the trauma of Acnologia's attack, far weaker than his title suggested.
Even so, he had nearly killed the guild master.
Ignia, who bore the title of a god, was unquestionably stronger.
"Can your companion really defeat Ignia?"
Misaki could feel the ambient heat painfully burning against her skin.
For the first time, she found herself genuinely worried about Ankh, who was fighting inside that inferno.
If he lost, they would be the ones forced to face the Fire Dragon God next.
Laxus opened his mouth.
Before he could answer, Erza spoke with absolute certainty.
"No one can defeat Ankh."
"Not the Black Dragon, and not the Fire Dragon God."
Laxus closed his mouth again.
Then he gave Erza a strange look.
Come to think of it…
Hadn't it been quite a while since she last called Ankh "Brother"?
As everyone reluctantly continued retreating from the battlefield, the Communication Lacrima in Laxus's hand suddenly lit up.
It was Fairy Tail's communication channel.
Laxus's heart tightened.
He immediately answered.
"Old man, what happened?"
"The western continent launched a surprise attack!"
Makarov's voice was urgent, with loud chaos audible in the background.
The leaders of the guild alliance had deliberately remained out of the northern war so they could maintain security within Ishgar.
As it turned out, that precaution had been exactly right.
"The Alvarez Empire suddenly deployed forces inside Ishgar! They've already occupied several kingdoms!"
Anger flashed through Laxus's eyes.
His grip tightened so hard around the Lacrima that he nearly shattered it.
Technically, the Alvarez Empire had still been considered an ally.
Yet while Ishgar was fighting Guiltina, they had stabbed them in the back.
"Bastards!"
Laxus cursed and immediately prepared to contact the Magic Council officers still on the battlefield.
Then, from the Diabolos side, Kirin suddenly shouted almost the exact same thing.
"What?! The western continent invaded Guiltina too?! They've already occupied the border cities and our military staging grounds?"
His expression changed.
"Then that means…"
The atmosphere around Diabolos instantly turned deathly silent.
Erza frowned and voiced the conclusion none of them wanted to admit.
"Your retreat route has been cut off."
Laxus sighed.
Then he silently cursed the ruler of Alvarez several more times.
While two sides fought each other bloody…
The fisherman had quietly walked away with the catch.
