Chapter 125: Chapter 125
What did that mean?
Lucy’s father had wanted to arrange a marriage between Lucy and Marshall?
And Lucy had actually rejected it?
In other words...
’Heh.’
Marshall could only conclude that either Jude Heartfilia thought far too highly of him, or Lucy had absolutely terrible judgment!
Perhaps she had awakened some kind of natural talent for throwing away opportunities that landed directly in her lap.
"Wait."
Marshall instantly appeared in front of Mira and Lucy, blocking their path before they could get far.
"I believe I’ve met this young lady before."
Mira’s imaginary danger antenna twitched.
She smiled sweetly.
"Marshall, you’re talking nonsense again. How come I never heard about you meeting another pretty older girl?"
"Even if we’ve never met, she looks strangely familiar."
Marshall leaned closer to the now bright-red Lucy and grinned.
"There’s nothing wrong with treating today as a long-awaited reunion."
"This young lady appears to recognize me too, so why don’t I serve as her guide?"
"N-No, that won’t be necessary!"
Lucy waved both hands frantically.
"There’s no need to be polite, Lucy."
Marshall continued smiling.
"Since Mira asked me to help, I must complete the task properly."
"How should I begin introducing the guild to you?"
Mira stared at him.
"..."
She vaguely remembered hearing a rumor some time ago that Marshall had started approaching girls on the street.
Supposedly, he had even tried to flirt with a blonde, blue-eyed bunny girl.
The rumor had annoyed Mira for days.
Her Marshall wasn’t some frivolous boy who ran around chatting up random women.
It had obviously been malicious slander spread by the guild’s older men!
But looking at him now...
Could the rumor have been true?
Was Marshall’s ideal type actually a cheerful, curvy blonde with blue eyes?
Danger!
This was a serious crisis!
"In that case, I’ll leave our new member in Marshall’s care~"
Mira’s smile became even sweeter.
"Lucy, make sure you don’t bully our Marshall."
"He’s only fourteen years old, after all~"
Lucy stared at the faint black mist seemingly rising behind Mira.
She suddenly remembered the bottle that had been crushed into dust earlier, and every hair on her body stood on end.
Could it be...?
"No, wait!"
Lucy abruptly stepped backward.
"I just remembered something! I need to visit another guild and find a mysterious scholar from the magical world!"
"We’ll meet again later!"
Marshall watched her attempt to flee and gained a profound understanding of what Mira’s tone had just implied.
Perhaps retreating would be the safest option.
Information about Marshall was surprisingly scarce outside Fairy Tail, despite his status as the guild’s youngest S-Class Mage.
That was because he had paid various newspapers to remove most reports involving him.
The fame enjoyed by the guild’s other members was partly the result of Marshall’s own discreet promotion as well.
He preferred letting others stand beneath the spotlight while he remained in the shadows and fired from safety.
More importantly, he still hadn’t reached the level of the Ten Wizard Saints.
There was no reason to become arrogant yet.
After training quietly for a few more years, he could finally stop pretending to be harmless and start telling people that he simply didn’t eat beef.
However, Lucy appeared to know far more about him than most outsiders.
[Oh no! What am I supposed to do?]
[This kid couldn’t possibly have fallen for me, could he?]
[Father is always saying his talent is unmatched and that his future is limitless.]
[If he really does like me, there’ll be no escaping that arranged marriage!]
[Damn it! I ran away from home specifically to avoid getting married!]
[Am I ultimately going to have no choice but to accept my fate?]
[Sigh... It’s all because my beauty is simply too difficult to contain.]
"..."
Marshall’s mouth twitched as he watched Lucy lose herself in narcissistic fantasies.
Was her thought process naturally this bizarre, or was she simply so foolish that ordinary logic no longer applied?
Where had she found that much confidence?
Marshall had barely looked at her properly.
That ridiculous attitude alone had already cost her a great many points.
Was Lucy supposed to be the comic relief?
Marshall took a deep breath.
His determination to make life difficult for her grew stronger.
He grabbed the hand of the still-daydreaming Lucy and floated toward the women’s dormitory.
Behind them, Mira maintained her closed-eyed, angelic smile.
She raised her terminal, photographed Marshall holding Lucy’s hand, and quietly posted the image to every Marshall fan group she had infiltrated.
Mira’s Alternate Account:
[Image] Marshall has been stolen by the newcomer! [Crying.JPG]
Juvia:
[WHAT?! Where did this thieving cat come from?! Is it that blonde newcomer from earlier? Damn it! Was Marshall her true target all along?! Juvia was nearly deceived! [Furious.JPG]]
Cana:
[Newcomers have become increasingly disrespectful lately. It seems someone needs a proper lesson. [Dark Expression.JPG]]
Levy:
[Damn that big tits blonde! She’s already trying to steal Fairy Tail’s greatest secret! I was actually beginning to like her too! [Overheating.JPG]]
Mira smiled contentedly.
She sincerely hoped their newest little sister would enjoy the warm welcome awaiting her.
Marshall, meanwhile, knew perfectly well how much trouble deliberately showing special attention to a newcomer would cause.
That was part of his sinister plan.
Even he had once suffered Fairy Tail’s traditional newcomer hazing!
Naturally, Lucy couldn’t be allowed to miss such an essential part of the experience.
She should be grateful she had joined Fairy Tail rather than Konoha.
While darkly considering the best ways to prank Lucy, Marshall maintained flawless manners on the surface.
He helped her complete every dormitory procedure.
Fairy Tail’s women’s dormitory had originally consisted of only one building, but a second had been constructed after the first ran out of space.
The original dormitory had once been privately owned. After Fairy Tail became wealthy, the guild purchased it outright and added it to its property.
That meant the guild could set the rent however it pleased.
After exchanging some polite small talk, the atmosphere between Marshall and Lucy gradually became less awkward.
"Miss Lucy, you seem to know a great deal about Fairy Tail."
Marshall glanced at her.
"What made you like our guild so much?"
"I’ve been a loyal fan for years!"
Lucy immediately brightened.
"I started collecting every newspaper article about Fairy Tail a long time ago! I know all about—"
"Is that so?"
"Yes!"
"The guild’s Mages are incredibly powerful, and their job-completion rate is amazing!"
She hesitated.
"Although some of the property-damage reports are a little..."
"Then who do you admire most?"
Lucy clasped her hands together, stars shining in her eyes.
"My greatest idol!"
"The bestselling author of this century!"
"The legendary Mr. Reedus, who created both the manga and novel versions of Naruto entirely by himself!"
"My dream is to become an adventure novelist, and Naruto is the greatest story I’ve ever read!"
"I’m a devoted fan of Slim-sensei—that is, Mr. Reedus!"
"I joined Fairy Tail because I wanted the chance to meet him!"
"..."
Marshall suddenly felt everything make sense.
This woman...
She really was an idiot.
