Chapter 137: Chapter 137

In the end, Lucy swallowed her embarrassment and agreed to Marshall’s ridiculous condition.

It was only three days as his maid. She’d already done it once, so what was the big deal?

And so, under everyone’s expectant gaze, Marshall tore open space and made his grand entrance.

"My, my~ How did all of you manage to get trapped by such a tiny little spell?"

He smiled sweetly.

"You really are hopeless, aren’t you~?"

Natsu and Gray immediately shouted back.

"Cut the crap! Just teleport us out!"

Marshall shook his head in disappointment.

"Your skill sets are far too limited. That goes for Erza too."

"I can think of at least ten ways to solve this problem, and directly dismantling the spell wouldn’t even take me very long."

"All right, all right! We know you’re amazing!"

Gray waved impatiently.

"Just use the fastest method! We still have an enemy to chase!"

"The fastest method?"

Marshall looked toward the raging barrier.

"Wind Wall relies on continuously circulating currents to maintain the barrier. If you want the spell to collapse..."

He raised one hand.

"You just need to stop the wind."

Lucy blinked.

"Stop the wind? How are you supposed to—uh..."

"World Severance."

At Marshall’s command, a pale pink spatial wall appeared through the center of the station.

It stretched nearly a hundred meters, cleanly dividing the area in two.

The circulating winds slammed into the spatial barrier and could no longer complete their cycle.

Deprived of the current sustaining them, the violent tornadoes rapidly weakened.

Within a few dozen seconds, Wind Wall completely dissipated.

Natsu, Gray, and Erza stared at the result.

"As expected of Marshall."

All three of them said it at once.

Natsu suddenly lifted his head and sniffed the air.

"Ohhh! I can still smell that bastard!"

"He hasn’t gotten far!"

He turned toward Happy.

"Happy! Let’s go after him!"

"Aye, sir!"

Happy grabbed Natsu and launched into the air.

With Aera pushed to its limit, the two could actually move at a respectable speed—certainly faster than someone relying solely on ordinary Wind Magic for flight.

Erza was about to retrieve her magic vehicle when she paused and looked at Marshall.

"Since you’re already here, Marshall, why don’t you capture Erigor?"

"I’m worried Natsu won’t catch him in time."

Marshall shook his head repeatedly.

"He’s Natsu’s opponent."

"If I steal his fight, he’ll probably complain afterward. I don’t want to deal with that."

"We can’t allow Erigor to interfere with Master’s conference."

"It’ll be fine~"

Marshall waved dismissively.

"Master and the other Guild Masters don’t need us worrying about them."

Erza sighed.

"Honestly..."

Then she thought for a moment.

"What if I serve as your maid for one day too?"

"DEAL!"

Lucy stared speechlessly at him.

"??????????"

She whipped her head around.

Marshall was already gone as a beam of light streaked across the horizon.

Lucy’s eye twitched violently.

’Excuse me?!’

’I agreed to be your maid for THREE DAYS and you dragged your feet like you were doing us a favor!’

’Erza offers ONE DAY and suddenly you’re flying off like your life depends on it?!’

’What is that supposed to mean?!’

’Are you looking down on me?!’

Gray watched the fading trail of light and slowly shook his head.

"I’ve always suspected Marshall might secretly be Gildarts’s illegitimate son."

"Erza, if you keep indulging him like this, you’re going to spoil that kid rotten."

"I don’t even want to imagine what he’ll be like when he grows up."

Erza merely smiled.

"Marshall is a very sensible child."

"He just... lacks affection sometimes."

Lucy looked at her uncertainly.

"R-Really?"

...

Far ahead, Erigor was flying toward Clover Town using Wind Magic.

His strength wasn’t actually bad.

He possessed roughly ten thousand units of magic power and had reached around Level Four proficiency in Wind Magic.

By ordinary guild standards, that was enough to place him somewhere near S-Class territory.

Inside Fairy Tail, however, those numbers weren’t particularly impressive.

In a straight fight, he might not even be able to beat Natsu.

Worse, Erigor didn’t know Gravity Magic.

He was forcing himself through the air using Wind Magic alone, which consumed considerable energy and wasn’t particularly fast.

Erigor, naturally, believed his plan was flawless.

He was already imagining himself arriving at the Guild Masters’ conference, playing Lullaby, killing every legitimate Guild Master gathered there, and ushering in a new era where the dark guilds would rise again.

Marshall had little interest in delusional clowns with no understanding of their own limits.

Unfortunately...

Erza had offered him a reward he couldn’t refuse.

A brilliant flash suddenly appeared in the air ahead of Erigor.

Hundreds of meters away, a point of light was approaching at tremendous speed.

"What is—"

BANG!

Erigor never even had time to react.

The light reached him instantly.

A tremendous force slammed into his abdomen, and before he could raise a defense, a foot sent him hurtling toward the ground.

He crashed into the earth hard enough to leave a crater.

Marshall floated overhead, his body wrapped in a faint cloak of light.

In one hand, he held an unusual flute shaped like a three-eyed skull.

He turned it over thoughtfully.

The magical aura radiating from the object was extraordinarily dense.

It had tremendous research value.

Then Marshall glanced toward the crater below, a figure was already struggling to stand.

"Oh?"

He chuckled.

"You can still stand?"

"I may have underestimated you a little."

Erigor clutched his abdomen, his face twisted in pain.

"W-Who the hell are you?!"

"At your level?"

Marshall glanced at him casually.

"You’re not qualified to make me introduce myself~"

Then he simply stopped paying attention to him and resumed examining Lullaby.

Erigor’s expression turned ugly.

Two of his ribs felt broken.

’Where did this monster come from?’

’Since when did Fiore have someone this powerful?!’

...

Marshall eventually shrugged.

"Well, Natsu can handle the rest."

"My job here is already finished."

Then he concealed himself with magic and settled comfortably in the sky to watch the fight.

Natsu arrived shortly afterward, and before long he and Erigor were trading blows.

Although Erigor possessed slightly more magic power under normal circumstances, their physical abilities were on completely different levels.

Erigor swung his scythe with all his strength and struck Natsu directly, yet barely managed to cut his skin.

When it came purely to physical durability, Natsu was actually a little tougher than Marshall.

Marshall didn’t possess the same draconic physical enhancement that came naturally with Natsu’s Dragon Slayer body.

After several exchanges, Erigor finally realized that his attacks simply weren’t doing meaningful damage.

His expression twisted.

’What the hell are these monsters?!’

"H-Hahaha!"

Erigor forced out a laugh.

"I admit it—you’ve truly angered me!"

"It seems I have no choice but to use my full power!"

"Storm Mail!"

Wind erupted around his body and condensed into armor resembling a miniature Wind Wall.

High-speed currents circulated around him, creating a spell that served both offense and defense.

Marshall nodded from his invisible perch.

’Not a bad idea.’

Natsu charged forward, only for his flames to scatter before they could properly reach Erigor.

"What the hell is this magic?!"

"My fire keeps going out whenever I get close!"

"How does that even work?!"

Marshall yawned.

"His wind is too strong and it’s blowing your flames out."

"That’s literally all there is to it."

He cupped his hands around his mouth.

"Natsu, can you actually handle this?"

"Want me to take over?"

"BASTARD!"

Natsu immediately exploded.

"DON’T LOOK DOWN ON ME!!!"

His anger surged—and so did his magic power.

In an instant, Natsu’s output shot past Erigor’s.

No matter how many times Marshall witnessed it, he still thought Natsu’s ability to temporarily amplify his magic through intense emotion was ridiculously unfair.

It was practically the constitution of a shōnen protagonist.

Marshall himself rarely experienced emotional swings that extreme, so he couldn’t casually ignite his fighting spirit and multiply his strength whenever someone annoyed him.

Now thoroughly fired up, Natsu’s magic power surged toward twenty thousand.

Erigor immediately lost any ability to fight back.

After overwhelming him at close range, Natsu finished the battle by smashing his head directly into Erigor and knocking him unconscious.

And that was that.

Fight over.

Problem solved.

Marshall smiled happily from above.

He was already looking forward to seeing Erza and Lucy in maid outfits.
