Falling For My Alpha Stepsister (GL)
Chapter 136: April And Mary Run Away QuietlyApril
I have no idea how long I sat inside that quiet chapel. My head was completely covered with a thin scarf, and all I did was stare continuously at the wooden cross hanging above the altar.
Mother Superior and the four other nuns sat together in the second row of the polished wooden pews.
They had been sitting there in total silence for what felt like forever, their eyes tightly closed in deep concentration. I couldn’t help but wonder if they were all just meditating in the room. But no, it was clearly their strict form of prayer.
Seriously are they not here to celebrate a wedding anniversary...
I slowly and quietly moved from one pew to another, making my way down the row while hoping to get in direct touch with Mary without alerting the rest of the group.
Thankfully, she happened to be sitting right at the very edge of the bench.
I was now directly behind the row of praying nuns.
I really don’t know if what I did next was entirely right, but I reached out my hand and tapped Mary gently on her shoulder. At first, she didn’t answer or move at all, but when I continued tapping her shoulder repeatedly, she gently turned her head back to me with her eyes wide open in surprise.
I quickly typed out a short message on my phone screen, holding it up to show her that I was actually here to get her out.
She read the text on my phone screen, then cautiously looked over at the other nuns, who were all still deeply focused on their silent prayers.
"Where is Benny right now?" she asked softly. Her voice wasn’t audible at all, but I could easily read her lips from where I sat.
"I don’t know," I moved my mouth without making a single sound.
We both took a quick glance back at the nuns, noticing all of them still had their eyes firmly closed. I thought this was the absolute perfect opportunity for us to run away before they were completely done with their long silent prayers.
So Mary silently slipped out from her seat on the bench, and we both quickly left the chapel without making a sound.
A few minutes later, we were safely back inside the private cabin room meant for Angel and me. Angel was still not back from wherever she had wandered off to on the ship.
I pulled out my suitcase and gave Mary some casual clothes to put on.
While she was inside the bathroom changing out of her habit, I quickly arranged my suitcase and packed Angel’s suitcase beside the bed. Since there was really no need for us to spend days on this ship anymore, it was definitely best that we returned straight to the mansion.
Then there was a sudden, sharp knock at the cabin door.
I went over to open it and saw Charlie standing in the hallway holding both Terror and Percy in her arms. She handed me the two cats, casually saying I should babysit Percy for a while because she and her fiancée had an important business meeting to attend on the upper deck.
I didn’t bother asking her why she was conducting serious business inside a cruise ship meant purely for celebration.
It really wasn’t my problem to ask her about that.
I quietly carried the two lovebirds into the room and asked her if she knew about Angel’s current whereabouts. She simply said she hadn’t seen her anywhere since Angel originally left Coco with her at the restaurant table.
Then she turned around and left down the hall.
When Mary stepped out of the bathroom, it was the very first time I actually got to see her real hair.
It was long and dark brunette, styled with a cute baby Korean cut right across the front of her forehead.
"Wow... You look so beautiful," I exclaimed softly, taking a step back to admire her new look.
"Thank you," she said, giving me a soft smile. "Since I became a nun at the sanctuary, I hardly ever wore my hair out in the open like this. I feel so free right now... and my body doesn’t feel heavy anymore."
She dropped her previous nun attire onto the edge of the mattress, alongside the cross necklace.
"I honestly hated it there," she confessed, running her fingers through her hair. "The orphan children were always lovely and nice to be around, but being a full-time nun is definitely not for me. I’m just so glad Benny came and found me again."
"That is really nice," I nodded, feeling a small wave of guilt. "At first, I judged you heavily and was super jealous of you, but now I realize that you really shouldn’t judge people without knowing their full story first. I’m truly sorry for how I thought of you."
I honestly wasn’t happy at all when I first caught the two of them kissing at the orphanage that day.
I had a huge crush on Benny back then, and I was pretty disappointed with what I saw.
I had even been calling Mary an unholy nun repeatedly inside my own head. Little did I know back then that she never actually wanted to be a nun in the first place, and that she was basically forced into it.
A moment later, Angel finally entered the cabin room. She seemed a little grumpy as she stepped through the door, but I completely failed to notice her bad mood at first.
"Angel, we are leaving this place right now," I said quickly to the girl, who had just walked over and bounced straight onto the bed. "I can’t stay here to celebrate with our parents, especially when I think they are actively expecting a baby together."
"Hooray, I am so incredibly happy for them..." Angel said in a completely fake, sarcastic tone, resting her head against the pillows.
Then her sharp eyes suddenly landed on Mary standing near the bathroom.
"And who on earth is this beauty...?"
Oh goodness gracious.
"Hello, Young Master," Mary introduced herself politely with a small bow. "It’s me, Maria Sanchez... or you can just call me Mary."
Angel opened her mouth wide in total shock.
Her whole brain seemed completely disconnected for a second.
She stood straight up from the bed and walked right over to stand closer to my side.
"Can I say what I’m thinking out loud?" she requested, turning her eyes to me.
Angel might be completely loyal to me as a girlfriend now, but that natural flirtatious attitude was still very much alive inside her. It was a good thing she actually had the sense to ask for my permission first.
"Fine, go ahead..." I smiled slightly, making a conscious effort not to roll my eyes. "Just please don’t make it overly awkward for her."
Angel turned back and looked Mary up and down without any hesitation.
"Damn, now I completely see why that Beta girl is so obsessed with you. From your big titties to your sharp hourglass curve, all the way to your big ass and that wide pelvis, you are one exceptionally fine Omega. Thank you so much for not choosing to serve the Lord forever. But why on earth is it that cross-gender Beta you chose out of everyone...?"
"Angel, please just stop talking right now..." I muttered under my breath, and she immediately shut her mouth tight.
"Hey, look, the white demon cat and my baby girl are sitting over here..." Angel said cheerfully the exact moment she noticed the two cats cuddling together on the couch.
She quickly walked past us to go over and meet them.
"She really talks a whole lot... I actually like her," Mary muttered softly, watching Angel shower the cats with attention.
Right at that moment, my phone beeped loudly with an incoming text notification.
It was a quick message from Benny. She and CJ had somehow managed to locate a small getaway boat near the lower deck and were currently waiting for us by the water.
"Okay, Angel, it is officially time for us to leave this ship to our parents."
"I’m not leaving just yet," Angel replied, without looking up from petting Coco.
"What did you just say?"
"I said I’m not leaving right now," Angel repeated, her tone turning a bit serious as she turned her head toward me. "You all can go ahead and leave first. I’ll meet up with you there soon."
"Why are you not coming with me right now?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at her in confusion.
"I really need to go talk to the Master about some district affairs first," Angel explained, standing up from the couch. "Right after that meeting is done, I’ll meet you right at the gangway. Just go wait for me by the exit."
I honestly don’t know why our original plans suddenly changed like this.
But why on earth did I suddenly have such a terrible, heavy feeling in my gut about her staying behind?
