Falling for the Omega Idol

Chapter 280: NOT COMPLETELY AGAINST

AS Haneul waited for his mother to return, the door to his room opened. He looked up, startled at first. An older man in a white coat stepped inside. He carried a small tray with a few items on it. His hair had a sprinkling of white strands, and his face displayed prominent smile lines.

"Hello, Kang Haneul-ssi," the doctor said, offering a gentle smile. "I’m Doctor Kim. How are you feeling?"

Haneul’s guard went up at first at the sight of a stranger. But as he looked at the doctor’s face, fragments of yesterday came back to him. This doctor was the same doctor who had been in the room when Taeyang marked him. The thought that the doctor had witnessed such an intimate moment between him and Taeyang made his entire face burn with embarrassment.

Doctor Kim seemed to catch his reaction. A small, knowing chuckle escaped him. "No need to feel shy about it. These things happen."

Haneul cleared his throat, trying to will the blush off from his cheeks. "I’m feeling fine," he said, shifting slightly where he sat. He was currently propped up against the headboard, the sheets pooled around his waist.

The doctor observed him for a moment, his gaze clinical but kind. He seemed satisfied with what he saw. "Good. I’m just here to take a swab of, well, you know," he said, gesturing vaguely toward Haneul’s neck. "Just to check if your pheromone levels are back to normal."

Haneul winced internally, but he knew it was necessary. He gave a short nod. "Okay."

Doctor Kim set the tray down on the bedside table and picked up the swab. Haneul tensed when he felt the tip touch the bite mark. It was cold and quick, barely a second. Before he could fully register the sensation, the doctor had already pulled away and placed the swab back on the tray.

"I’ll return later with the results," Doctor Kim stated.

"Thank you, Doctor," Haneul replied quietly.

The doctor warmly smiled at him once more before exiting the room.

The door clicked shut and Haneul let out a soft sigh of relief. He felt fine now, but having a stranger in the room still made him uneasy. Even if that stranger was a kind looking doctor.

A few minutes after the doctor left, the door opened again. This time, it was his mother. She carried a large brown paper bag that looked heavy with food. She set it down on the table beside his bed. Even from where he sat, Haneul could already smell whatever was inside. The warm, savory scent made his stomach clench with hunger.

"I’m sorry I took so long," Eunji said, pulling the hospital tray table over the bed. "Did the doctor come by already?" she asked, setting out the food containers on top of it.

"Yes," Haneul said. "He took a swab of the... the bite. He said he’d come back later to let us know if my pheromone levels are back to normal."

He looked down at the food his mother had brought. There was a bowl of chicken rice porridge, a side of rolled omelet, and a bottle of water for a drink.

At the mention of the bite, Eunji paused while pulling out the toast she’d bought for herself. She looked over at Haneul and found him already eating. She was relieved to see him looking more like himself. But there was still something she needed to ask.

"Haneul-ah," she called carefully, "How do you feel about what happened? About the bite, I mean?"

Haneul paused, the spoon halfway to his mouth. He set it back down and turned to face his mother. She was watching him with an encouraging look, but he could see the worry lurking just beneath the surface.

He could have lied and told her it was nothing, just to put her at ease. But he didn’t want to do that. She was his mother. He wanted to be honest with her as much as he could.

"I’m embarrassed," he said softly. "Embarrassed that you had to see me like that. I’m angry at myself for letting things get that far. And I have no idea how I’m supposed to face Taeyang now without wanting the ground to swallow me whole."

Eunji blinked at his response, surprised. She hadn’t expected him to be so forthcoming about how he felt. Most kids his age would have ignored it or kept their feelings to themselves, especially in front of their parents. But she was glad he was being honest. That meant he trusted her enough to show her what he was really thinking.

"First of all, you have nothing to be embarrassed about. What happened was out of your control. And you shouldn’t be angry at yourself for any of it. If anyone deserves the blame, it’s not you. It’s that Alpha with his obvious mental issues," she said, her tone leaving no room for argument.

Haneul let out a small laugh at that. Mostly because he agreed. There was definitely something off about Jeon Hyunsik’s head.

"And about Jung Taeyang-ssi," Eunji continued, her gaze steady on her son. "Haneul-ah, tell me honestly. Is there something between you and that young man?"

Because if there wasn’t, her son wouldn’t have called out for Jung Taeyang when he was barely conscious. And Jung Taeyang wouldn’t have agreed so quickly to give him a temporary mark. Beyond that, the way the young Alpha had looked at Haneul when he first walked into this hospital room wasn’t the way you looked at a friend. There was something possessive in it. Something earnest. And something she wasn’t ready to put a name to.

Haneul felt his cheeks grow warm at the question. If he said there was nothing, it would be a flat out lie. His mother would see through it in a second. So he decided to be honest again.

"He... Taeyang confessed to me," Haneul said in a low voice. "He told me he likes me. And I’m not... I’m not completely against it."
