"OPPA, is that perverted bas— I mean, is that stupid Alpha really going to jail?" Haeun asked. She was staring at Haneul so intently it was like she was trying to step right through the screen and appear beside him.

Haneul let out a small chuckle. He was on a video call with his father and sister, the three of them in a group call. He’d missed them more than he realized. It had been so long since he’d seen their faces that when the call connected and they appeared on the screen, he’d almost teared up. He held it back, though. If he started crying, his father and sister would only worry more than they already were.

"According to the PD, there’s a good chance he will," he said simply.

Haeun let out an angry huff. "He better be, after what he did to you."

When their father had told her what happened to Haneul, she’d almost insisted they leave for Jeju right away to see him. She couldn’t believe someone had forced her brother into heat. Then the shock had curdled into anger when she learned an Alpha contestant was behind it. And that anger had turned into something colder when she found out it was Jeon Hyunsik.

She’d known there was something off about that bastard. The show hadn’t made it obvious, but she could see it in the way he looked at her brother. And she’d been right. But she hadn’t expected him to actually go as far as forcing Haneul into heat. She didn’t know if he was just stupid or if he really thought he’d get away with it. Maybe it was a mix of both. Either way, Jeon Hyunsik was still a stupid, perverted bastard.

Haneul wasn’t entirely sure Jeon Hyunsik would actually end up in prison for what he’d done. The PD had mentioned there were other victims, so maybe the weight of everything stacked against him would be enough. He certainly hoped so. But he had a feeling it wouldn’t be that simple. Especially since Jeon Hyunsik seemed to come from a family with influence. Things like that didn’t just get resolved overnight.

But he decided not to share that with his father and sister. They were already worried enough as it was. He would rather not add to it, especially when all he wanted right now was just to talk to them.

"Are you really feeling alright now, Haneul-ah?" his father asked, his eyes full of worry as he studied him through the screen.

"Yes, Dad, I’m fine now," Haneul said, giving his father a reassuring smile. "Don’t worry about me."

"How could I not worry?" Hyunwoo said.

He had barely slept, worried sick about his son. He’d talked to Eunji last night, and she’d told him Haneul had agreed to a temporary mark so he could stay in the competition. The thought of some Alpha putting a mark on his son made his blood boil and his stomach twist at the same time. He trusted Haneul’s judgment, but that didn’t make it any easier. He’d spent the whole night going back and forth between anger and worry, and sleep had been impossible.

Even though Eunji had assured him the Alpha who gave Haneul the mark was a decent kid, he couldn’t help but feel protective. It was instinct. A father’s instinct. No matter how much she tried to reassure him, the thought of another Alpha marking his son gnawed at him.

But seeing Haneul on the screen now, he felt some of the weight lift off his chest. He’d expected to see his son looking pale and drained, but Haneul looked pretty normal. There was color in his cheeks, and he was sitting up on his own. Still, the worry lingered. It would probably take a while before it fully went away.

"I’m fine, Dad," Haneul said, holding his father’s gaze through the screen. He tried his best to look sincere, to make his father believe him. "I promise."

Hyunwoo wanted to say more, but Haneul was trying so hard to reassure him that he could only sigh quietly. "Just promise me you’ll be careful, Haneul-ah. That’s all we, you family, want."

"I will," Haneul said, guilt creeping into his voice. "I’m sorry for making you worry."

"You don’t have to apologize," Hyunwoo said quickly. "None of this was your fault."

"Dad’s right," Haeun added. "It’s all that perverted bas— I mean, that Alpha’s fault."

A small smile tugged at Haneul’s lips. "Thank you."

"Speaking of Alphas," Haeun said, her eyes taking on a knowing gleam, "The one who bit you, it’s Jung Taeyang, isn’t it?"

When she’d asked last night who had given her brother the temporary mark, her father had been evasive. Her mother had also refused to give her a straight answer. So she’d had to figure it out on her own. For Haneul to agree to be marked, even temporarily, the Alpha had to be someone he trusted. Someone he felt safe with. And when she thought about it, there was only one person who fit that description. Jung Taeyang.

If Robin had been an Alpha, Haeun would have picked him without hesitation. But since he wasn’t, the next closest option was Jung Taeyang. Her brother only had two Alphas he was genuinely close to: Jung Taeyang and Lee Haru. There were other Alphas he’d become teammates with, but none of them were as close to him as those two. And Haneul treated Lee Haru like a younger brother. There was no way he would have asked Haru to mark him. But Jung Taeyang was different.

Haeun couldn’t quite explain it, but she could just tell that Haneul treated Jung Taeyang differently. Call it a sister’s instinct. And now, seeing the blush spreading across her brother’s cheeks, she knew she’d been right.

"Y-yes, it’s Taeyang," Haneul confirmed, his voice barely above a mumble. There was no point in denying it. His mother would tell them everything when she got back to Seoul anyway.

Haeun’s eyes lit up. "How did you feel when it happened? Was it weird? Did it hurt? Like, what did it actually feel like when he bit you?" She leaned closer to the screen, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Did you feel anything like... you know... sparkles or something?"
