~~~~ Third-Person POV ~~~~
"This girl is really something else," Camila scoffed. "How will she put up with us like this?"
"Watch your tone, Mila," Daniela said, frowning.
"Ooh! She hasn’t even accepted you yet, but—"
"Don’t waste the tutor’s time," Daniela said, getting into the car.
Camila stared at Daniela. Her cousin was really lovesick, and the only cure was Doctor Amelia Winston herself.
She let out a soft laugh, got into the car too, and drove off.
They arrived at a small local café tucked along a quiet street. Camila paused at the entrance and looked around. She wasn’t used to places like this. Her entire life had been expensive restaurants, air-conditioned eateries, and the one café where Daniel worked.
"This place is weird. I’ve never been somewhere like this before," Daniela said, glancing around.
"True," Camila agreed, nodding.
A young boy came flying down the path on a bicycle, looking back to wave at someone, and nearly collided straight into her.
A hand grabbed her by the waist and pulled her sideways.
"I’m really sorry, miss!" The boy called, already bowing as he pedaled away.
Camila steadied herself and turned to see who had saved her.
The man who had grabbed her was tall, with sea-blue eyes and silky brown hair that fell just enough to brush the edge of his brows. He had curved pink lips and the kind of effortlessly handsome face that made people look twice without meaning to. Camila had to admit he was ridiculously handsome.
"Are you okay?" He asked, with a worried expression.
"Yeah," Camila said, snapping out of her daze. "Thank you so much for saving me."
"My pleasure," he said, smiling. "I’ll get going then."
Camila nodded and waved to him. He smiled and walked away.
Daniela had been standing beside her the entire time, glancing between Camila and the stranger with a smile.
"Is this flirting? Young people these days really have no shame left." She said, shaking her head.
Camila turned to her, still staring at the spot where he had disappeared. "That guy is really handsome." She said, smiling to herself.
"Do you like him?" Daniela asked bluntly.
"No. He’s handsome, sure, but my Daniel is still the most handsome guy in the entire world." Camila said and wrapped her arms around herself with a dreamy expression.
"Hey, lovebird. Let’s get started on what we actually came here for." Daniela scoffed and walked into the café.
When Camila finally snapped out of it, she looked around and realized Daniela had disappeared. She peered through the glass door and spotted her already sitting at a table inside.
"You rascal!" She muttered, hurrying in.
She walked over and sat down in the seat across from Daniela and pulled her favorite chocolate bar from her bag.
"Call the tutor already. I don’t want my Lia worrying too much," Daniela said. A small smile spread across her face as she imagined Amelia smiling at her.
Camila waved a hand in front of Daniela’s face, but she didn’t even blink. Camila leaned in and whispered.
"Get a grip, you little rascal."
Daniela snapped back to reality and smiled at Camila.
Camila pulled out her phone, found Amelia’s message, copied the tutor’s number, and dialed.
It rang twice before it was picked up.
"Hello, sir. Do you still remember we’re meeting today?" Camila said, furrowing her eyebrows as she stared at Daniela.
"Yes, I do. I’m already at the location." The voice on the other end replied.
"Which side are you? I’m already at the café too," Camila said, looking around the room for anyone on a call.
"Wave your hand and I’ll come find you," the voice said.
Camila raised her hand, still looking around.
The chocolate bar she’d been holding slipped and fell. She bent down to pick it up.
Daniela’s eyes widened the moment she spotted the tutor walking toward their table.
Just as Camila straightened back up, she realized someone was already standing right in front of her. She looked up immediately and froze.
"Hey, the handsome guy from outside!" She blurted, then quickly covered her mouth.
"Are you the person I just called?" She asked, completely caught off guard.
"Umm, yes." He said, rubbing the back of his neck.
Camila smiled and gestured for him to sit. He nodded and took the seat. Daniela just sat there watching them with a wide smile.
"Why are you smiling, you rascal?" Camila said, frowning.
"Mila, stop calling me ’rascal.’ I’m Daniela." She tilted her head.
"Or call me Ela. No, wait — don’t call me that. Let Lia be the only one who calls me that." She said, smiling helplessly to herself.
"Whatever," Camila said, shaking her head, then turned to the tutor she absolutely hadn’t expected to see again. "I’m really sorry, my friend was supposed to meet you, but she had an emergency."
"It’s fine." He said softly, a small smile appearing on his face.
Daniela looked around. Since no one had come to take their order, she figured she’d have to go get it herself.
She stood up immediately. "I’ll go get the coffee. What would you like, tutor?"
He looked at her and smiled. "I’ll have a latte with brown sugar."
Daniela nodded and turned to leave.
"Wait," he said, looking at Camila. "Won’t you order too?"
"It’s fine; she already knows my order." Camila said, smiling at him.
He nodded and smiled. "Okay, thanks." He said, glancing back at Daniela.
Daniela shook her head as she walked off.
"She just said she didn’t like him, yet there she is smiling shamelessly." Daniela murmured, looking back at Camila, and walked up to the counter.
"I need one Macchiato, one latte with brown sugar, and one Affogato."
"Affogato?" The girl at the counter said, looking up.
Daniela nodded.
"Sorry, we don’t have that," the girl said.
"What about Cappuccino?" Daniela asked.
"Yes, we have that," the girl said, writing it down. "Which table, please?" She asked, looking up.
Daniela pointed at their table. The girl nodded. "I’ll bring it over soon."
Daniela turned and walked back. Camila looked up immediately from her phone the moment she returned.
"My coffee?" Camila asked, reaching out her hand.
"It’ll be served soon," Daniela said, and Camila nodded.
"I’m Daniela," Daniela said, extending her hand toward the tutor. "And she’s—"
"We already introduced ourselves," he interrupted her with a small smile.
"I see," Daniela said with a smirk.
"I’m Felix," he said, shaking Daniela’s hand.
"Your principal invited me to help your school prepare for the upcoming competition." He said, looking at Camila. And Camila nodded.
"He mentioned he felt bad about how hard your teammates trained last year, only to end up losing," Felix continued. He leaned back in his chair.
"Have you heard of Ghost?"
"Yeah," Camila said immediately. "Who hasn’t heard of Ghost? But why do you ask?"
Felix shrugged.
Camila looked at him slowly, her hand rising to cover her mouth. "Don’t tell me... you’re Ghost?" She said, staring at him.
Felix smiled and nodded. "I’m Ghost."
"WHAT!"
Camila’s scream made everyone in the café turn to look. She quickly stood, bowing slowly at the other customers with an apologetic smile before turning back to Felix.
"You’re really Ghost," she said, eyes wide open. "I can’t believe I’m actually meeting my role model in person."
She started laughing and looked at Felix. "I think someone is going to be even more embarrassed than I am right now."
"Who?" Daniela asked, looking at her.
"Amelia, of course," Camila said, laughing harder. "Because she once said that if she ever met Ghost in real life, she would hug him and kiss him for good luck."
Daniela choked immediately. "She said WHAT?"
Felix shook his head, smiling quietly to himself.
The girl from the counter arrived soon after with their drinks.
"Ma’am," she said, looking at Daniela.
Daniela pointed out which coffee belonged to whom,, and the girl served them and left.
"But why did you retire?" Camila said, sipping her coffee.
Felix stopped mid-sip.
Camila noticed the immediate shift in his expression and set her cup down. "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to pry." She said, waving her hands apologetically.
Felix smiled, took one more sip, and set his cup down gently. "It’s fine."
Camila smiled softly. "When are we starting?" She asked, tracing the rim of her mug.
"Whenever your teammates are ready," Felix said. "I’m always available. But where are we staying?" He asked, crossing his arms.
"At my apartment. I have a small apartment with enough gaming computers for everyone," Camila said, smiling.
Felix nodded. "You really love games, don’t you?"
"I really do. Because I had the biggest motivator," Camila said, looking up at him.
"Ghost. He was my biggest motivator. He made me fall madly in love with esports. But then he retired and left us all behind." She said, a small bittersweet smile playing on her face.
Felix nodded quietly, a sad expression crossing his face.
"I’m really happy to finally meet you, Ghost," Camila said. Tears rolled down quietly from the corners of her eyes. She wiped them away with her thumb and smiled.
"Let’s not change the mood."
Daniela leaned back in her chair, listening quietly. She had always known how much Ghost meant to both Camila and Amelia. She remembered exactly how devastated they had been when news of his retirement broke.
Camila had locked herself in her room for a whole week, crying. Amelia had gone on a hunger strike. And now here they were, sitting across from him in a small local café like it was the most ordinary thing in the world.
"Fate is sometimes really cruel. But eventually it brings you back to the people you were always meant to meet."
"Okay then. I’ll contact you once my teammates agree on a time." Camila said, picking up her bag.
She stood and walked toward the door, then stopped mid-step without turning around.
"Can I add you on WeChat?" She asked quietly.
"Mmm," Felix said, nodding.
And she left.
Daniela shook her head, stood up, waved at Felix, and followed her out.
Felix stayed behind, staring down at the coffee still in his hands. The smile he had been holding all afternoon slowly faded.
For years he had assumed everyone had already forgotten him. Today he found out he was completely wrong. Tears rolled quietly down his face.
Outside, Camila had stopped walking. She stood there looking back at Felix through the glass door, her own tears rolling down again.
She remembered exactly how broken she had been when he retired. Her father had locked up her apartment for three months, trying to help her move on. But she never fully did. She had just learned to carry it differently.
She had promised herself back then to become more like Ghost. To keep going no matter what.
She wiped her tears, took a breath, and walked back to the car.
Daniela walked up quietly beside her and patted her shoulder.
"It’s fine, Mila. Give me the keys. I’ll drive," Daniela said softly.
Camila nodded and handed them over without a word.
Daniela smiled gently as she watched her cousin. She got in, started the engine, and drove off.
