The room gradually quieted after the match ended, the victory screen still glowing across the monitors.
Felix stood from his chair and walked to the front of the room. "Good game." He said. And everyone turned toward him.
"You won, but the score isn’t what matters. What matters is how you played."
His gaze moved around the room. "Overall, you’re all better than I expected."
Smiles appeared immediately on our faces.
"Your aim isn’t the problem. Most of you have decent mechanics." Felix continued.
He looked toward Caleb. "Your game sense is good, and your utility placement is solid. But you rely too much on your setup. When things don’t go according to plan, you hesitate."
Caleb nodded thoughtfully.
Felix shifted his attention to Sasha. "You’re confident, and your aim is strong."
Sasha immediately sat up straighter.
"But you chase fights you don’t need to take."
Her shoulders dropped. Caleb chuckled softly beside her.
Then Felix looked at Danny. "You have good instincts."
Danny brightened instantly.
"But your decision-making needs work." Felix said, crossing his arms.
Her smile disappeared.
"You teleported yourself into danger more than once." He continued.
Danny groaned and sank lower in her chair.
"Camila, you’re reliable. You stay calm, pay attention to the map, and support your teammates without needing to be told." Felix said, looking toward her.
Camila simply nodded.
Then, finally, his gaze landed on me.
"Amelia."
I sat up immediately.
"You’re skilled. Good reactions, good movement, and enough confidence to create space for the team."
I rubbed the back of my neck awkwardly.
"But you’re reckless." He said immediately.
And my hand froze.
"You push ahead because you trust your aim too much. If you play against stronger opponents, that will likely get you punished."
I couldn’t even argue because he was right.
Felix leaned back against the desk. "The biggest problem isn’t your mechanics, though."
The room went quiet.
"It’s communication." He continued, tilting his head. "There were too many moments where someone had information and didn’t share it. A team isn’t five people playing the same game."
He tapped the desk lightly. "It’s five people sharing the same information."
The room fell silent. Even Sasha stopped eating.
Felix’s expression softened slightly. "The good news is communication is much easier to fix than bad aim."
Relieved sighs escaped from everyone.
"You already have what it takes to become a strong team. Right now, you’re just five good players." His gaze swept across the room, folding his arms. "My job is turning you into a team."
The room felt a little different after he said that.
He picked up his phone. "Tomorrow we start communication drills."
Danny groaned. Sasha dropped her forehead onto the desk. Caleb looked genuinely excited.
I laughed quietly and leaned back in my chair. Beside me, Camila reached for her water bottle.
Sylvia sat leaning back, listening quietly, even though I was pretty sure she didn’t understand half of the gaming terms he was talking about.
"So, that’s all for today." Felix said, a small smile playing on his lips, shifting the mood.
Caleb tapped his keyboard and turned toward him. "That’s why you’re Ghost. You already know everything just from sitting there watching us."
He gave a thumbs up. "Really impressive."
We all laughed. Sasha’s phone buzzed on the desk. She grabbed it and stepped out.
I glanced at Sylvia, who was yawning. I knew she hadn’t had lunch yet. I stood and walked to the small fridge at the corner of the room, pulling together two plates of instant noodles.
"Hey, Amelia, add mine." Caleb said, rubbing his stomach.
I nodded and grabbed another plate, boiling water with the electric kettle Camila kept stocked in the corner.
Camila had made things easier for everyone since last year’s all-nighter, the tournament prep that ended in a loss none of us liked talking about.
She always made sure there was food, snacks, juice, and fruit tucked in the fridge that was in the gaming room. Sasha was a known foodie, which was exactly why the kettle and instant noodles existed here in the first place.
A few minutes later, the smell of hot noodles filled the room. Steam rose from the bowls as I carried them back.
I walkedover to Sylvia, who was now fully sprawled against the chair.
"Take this and eat." I said, holding the plate out to her.
She looked down at it, then up at me.
"If you don’t want it, I might as well give—"
She snatched it before I could even finish the what I was about to say.
"Thank you, Minnie." She said, smiling.
I nodded, handed Caleb his plate, and walked back to my seat, setting the last one in front of Camila, who was still scrolling through her phone.
"Cam." I said.
She looked up from her phone.
"Eat. You haven’t had anything all day."
She smiled and nodded. "Thank you." She said, already digging in.
"Aren’t you eating too, Minnie?" Sylvia asked, frowning.
Before I could answer, Danny spun toward her. "Don’t worry, she doesn’t like noodles. Not even the kind with egg in it."
I glanced at Sylvia, who was giving me a surprised look.
Sasha walked back in. "I have to head home." She said, already crossing to her computer to shut it down.
"Hey, Sasha, I’ll come with you, so you can drop me off. I don’t know when my driver’s getting here." Danny said, switching hers off too.
Ding!
Ding!
Ding!
The doorbell rang.
"Are you expecting someone?" I asked, turning to Camila.
"Mmm." She said. "Daniela’s here to drive me home."
She was already on her feet, shutting down her computer. I powered mine off too and grabbed my phone.
Camila hurried out of the room. Felix stood and followed after her.
Sylvia had already finished eating. Caleb shut his computer down and stood up, still eating off his plate as he wandered out behind everyone else.
"Are you done?" I asked Sylvia.
She nodded and stood up. I took her empty plate and dropped it in the trash bin.
"Let’s go." I said, already turning to leave.
Sylvia followed quietly as we made our way back to the living room.
"Lia!" Daniela called, running over and pulling me into a tight hug.
I smiled, patting her head lightly. She pulled back just enough to press a quick kiss to my cheek, and my eyes went wide.
I looked at her. She was smiling, completely unbothered on what she did.
"Hmm. If you weren’t someone’s cousin, you’d probably be in trouble." Sasha said, laughing softly as she slung her bag over her shoulder.
Camila sighed, shaking her head.
Sylvia had already gone quiet, eyes flicking between me and Daniela before she turned toward the door.
I turned to look at her properly and noticed her anger, my own smile fading instantly.
I waved goodbye to the others and hurried to catch up with her.
~~~~~ Third-Person POV ~~~~
Sylvia walked out of the apartment without looking back. Her steps were quick as she headed for where Amelia’s car was parked.
She’d be riding home with Amelia since Mr. Clifford had already left for the day, and she hadn’t bothered texting him to come back.
The evening air was cool against her skin, but it did nothing to calm the irritation twisting inside her chest.
She didn’t understand why she was angry.
She only knew she didn’t like seeing Daniela wrapped around Amelia like that. Especially not the kiss.
The memory replayed in her head over and over again.
Amelia hurried out of the apartment building a few moments later. The interior light glowed softly through the window.
"Lia!" Daniela called from behind.
Amelia turned and waved.
"Are you okay?" She asked, as reached Sylvia.
Sylvia ignored her, already pulling out her phone, scrolling without looking up.
"I’m talking to you, Sylvia."
She still said nothing. She didn’t lift her head even once.
The silence hurt more than Amelia expected. Sylvia had never ignored her like this before, not really, not even on their worst days.
She unlocked the car. Sylvia pulled open the passenger door and slid in without a word.
Amelia watched her for a moment before getting in herself, glancing over once more. Sylvia still wouldn’t look at her.
She started the engine, gave Sylvia one last glance, and pulled out of the lot.
Several times Amelia tried to start a conversation, but Sylvia ignored her each time.
When they reached home, Amelia parked and cut the engine.
Before Amelia could even unbuckle her seatbelt, Sylvia opened the passenger door, ready to walk away, but Amelia caught her wrist just in time.
"Please stop ignoring me." Amelia said, voice quiet, almost pleading.
Sylvia froze.
That single sentence instantly melted part of her anger. She finally turn, glaring at Amelia as she sank back into her seat, body fully toward her now.
"What did I do?" Amelia asked, leaning closer.
She was close enough now to catch the faint trace of Sylvia’s cologne, close enough to feel the warmth radiating off her skin.
Sylvia swallowed, still looking at Amelia.
"Talk to me, Sylvia." Amelia said, tilting her head, attempting a small smile.
Their faces were closer now. Sylvia could see every detail of Amelia’s face.
The soft curve of Amelia’s lips, the faint blush on her cheeks and also the concern in her eyes.
Her heart started beating faster, but Amelia didn’t seem to notice any of that.
Sylvia’s eyes dropped from Amelia’s gaze down to her lips for half a second.
"Sylvia?" Amelia called tilting her head to the other side
Before she could think herself out of it, she leaned in and kissed her.
Amelia’s eyes flew wide open, her whole face turned bright red in an instant.
Sylvia pulled back, a small, satisfied smile tugging at her mouth. "I’m not angry anymore." She said.
Then she opened the car door and climbed out, leaving Amelia completely frozen behind the steering wheel.
Amelia stared at the spot where Sylvia had been sitting. She blinked as her fingers slowly lifted to her lips. Her heart was beating so loudly she could hear it.
What...
What just happened?
She turned to watched Sylvia disappear through the front door.
