~~~~~ Amelia POV ~~~~~
I hurried into the corridor.
The hallway was already crowded with students walking in different directions.
Students’ laughter echoed around me while lockers slammed shut one after another.
Students walked past in groups talking among themselves.
I looked around anxiously, searching for Sylvia. "Where could she be?" I murmured under my breath.
A sudden shiver of fear ran through me. I really didn’t mean for what happened in there to happen.
I made my way into the cafeteria.
The warm aroma of freshly cooked food greeted me the moment I pushed open the cafeteria doors. Students crowded nearly every table, chatting over lunch while others waited in line with trays in their hands.
The cafeteria was too big to search table by table, so my eyes instinctively drifted toward the table where we’d sat before.
I immediately saw her.
She was sitting alone with her head lowered, absentmindedly tapping her fork against her plate without eating.
I let out a deep breath and started walking toward her.
When I reached the table, I stood there for a moment before Sylvia slowly raised her head to look at whoever was standing there.
The moment she saw it was me, she lowered her head again and started cutting the steak on her plate into tiny pieces without taking a bite.
I stared at her for a moment before pulling out the chair opposite her and sitting down.
She didn’t even bother sparing me a glance.
"Sylvia..." I called softly.
But she didn’t answer, let alone raise her head.
I leaned in a little closer. She immediately leaned back before finally looking at me.
"Be careful," she said calmly. "You might accidentally brush your lips against mine too." Then she looked back down at her plate.
My eyes widened as my heart sank.
For a moment, I was completely speechless as I watched her quietly put another piece of steak into her mouth.
"It’s not what it seems," I finally said after finding my voice.
I paused. "It was an accident."
Sylvia still didn’t say anything.
I let out a slow breath. "I’m sorry, Sylvia."
That was when she finally looked up at me.
"If I were the one who accidentally kissed someone else..." she said, meeting my gaze. Her fingers slowly tightened around the fork in her hand.
"What would you have done?"
I froze.
I couldn’t answer her.
I just stared at her. Then I slowly lowered my head.
True.
She had every right to be mad at me. I was really wrong.
If I had been the one to see her accidentally kiss someone else...
I would’ve reacted even worse than she did.
I probably would’ve dragged her away in front of everyone... and I definitely wouldn’t have stayed as calm as she was now.
But Sylvia didn’t do any of that.
She simply walked away to calm herself.
~~~~~ Third-person POV ~~~~~
Camila walked straight into the cafeteria and immediately searched around for Amelia.
She quickly spotted her sitting opposite Sylvia with her head lowered.
Her shoulders were slumped, and she hadn’t lifted her head once.
Camila frowned and tightened her grip on the strap of her school bag.
"What did that bitch do to Amelia again?" she muttered before walking toward them.
Daniela hurried after her, breathing a little heavily from running.
"Lia," Camila called as she reached their table.
Amelia slowly raised her head.
"Cam," she replied quietly.
Camila turned to Sylvia, looked her over for a second, then looked back at Amelia.
"What did she do to you again?"
Amelia shook her head. "She didn’t do anything, Cam."
Camila looked at Sylvia again before letting out a quiet breath.
"Fine."
Daniela gently tapped Camila’s shoulder before looking at Sylvia.
She noticed Sylvia hadn’t said a word since they arrived.
"Are you alright?" Daniela asked.
"I’m good," Sylvia replied quietly.
She finished the last piece of steak on her plate, pulled out a tissue, and wiped her mouth.
Then she picked up her bag from the chair beside her and stood up.
Just as she was about to leave—
"Don’t tell me you’re like this because I accidentally kissed Amelia?" Daniela asked.
Sylvia stopped walking. But she didn’t turn around. Her hand slowly tightened into a fist around the strap of her bag.
After a few seconds, she continued walking and left.
Camila looked at Daniela before flicking her forehead.
"Ouch." Daniela rubbed her forehead.
"Why did you even ask her that?" Camila frowned.
Daniela looked confused. "I was only asking..."
Amelia watched Sylvia walk away. It felt as though something sharp had pierced straight through Amelia’s chest.
Her heart ached.
It really hurt.
"Sylvia!" Amelia called.
Several students turned to look at her. But Sylvia never turned back.
"Why are you bothering about her, Amelia?" Camila pouted.
"Bother about me instead."
Amelia forced a small smile before turning to look toward the cafeteria exit.
"Hey," Daniela called with a smile. "What do you want to eat, Lia?"
"I’ve already lost my appetite," Amelia replied without turning around.
Camila folded her arms across her chest before tilting her head slightly.
"But I can’t let you starve, you know?"
Amelia picked up her bag, gently pulled her arm away from Camila, and walked out of the cafeteria.
Camila froze.
She stared down at the hand Amelia had just pulled away from for a few seconds.
Then she slowly clenched her fist and nodded to herself.
"I think my instinct was right."
Her eyes slowly lifted toward the cafeteria entrance where Amelia had disappeared.
"But I won’t let it happen, Amelia," she whispered to herself.
Her lips curved into a faint smile. "You can only be mine... and mine alone."
~~~~~ Amelia POV ~~~~~
I stepped out of the cafeteria and immediately looked around for Sylvia.
Students walked through the corridors, laughing and talking as they made their way back to class. The hallway buzzed with voices, but no matter where I looked, she wasn’t there.
A few moments later, the bell announcing the end of break echoed throughout the school.
I let out a quiet sigh and headed back to the classroom.
The first thing I did when I walked in was look toward Sylvia’s desk.
It was empty.
A dull ache settled in my chest. I really couldn’t stand being away from her.
Not even for a second.
I slowly walked to my desk and dropped into my chair. Resting my elbows on the desk, I lowered my head and stared at nothing.
A few minutes passed. Then something landed softly on my desk.
I looked up.
Sylvia.
My face brightened almost instantly. I smiled at her. But she didn’t smile back.
She placed a small paper bag on my desk without saying a word before quietly returning to her seat.
"Thank you, Sylvia," I whispered, just loud enough for her to hear. But she didn’t respond.
She leaned back in her chair, unlocked her phone, and began typing quickly, her attention never leaving the screen.
I watched her for a second before reaching for the paper bag.
I was curious to know what was inside the bag. I opened it.
Inside were snacks.
Chocolate.
Lollipops.
Every single one was something I liked.
A smile slowly tugged at my lips. She knew me so well. She remembered the smallest things about me.
But...
What did I know about her?
I couldn’t even name her favorite snack.
Wasn’t I pathetic?
The thought made my smile fade. I really was terrible at this.
My gaze drifted back to her. She still hadn’t looked at me once.
Just then, Camila walked into the classroom.
The moment she saw me, she waved and headed straight over.
Without asking, she picked up the paper bag from my desk and peeked inside.
Her eyebrows lifted. She glanced toward Sylvia, who still hadn’t looked up from her phone before looking back at me again.
"Wow." She said softly.
"Amelia... who bought all these for you?"
"I—"
She lifted a hand, cutting me off before I could answer. A mischievous smile spread across her face.
She reached into her school bag and pulled out a chocolate bar and held it up between us.
"I’ll trade this chocolate for this."
She gently waved the chocolate in front of me.
My eyes immediately lit up.
That chocolate...
It was from Thailand.
My favorite celebrity was always talking about how good it was. And I’d wanted to try it for ages.
I slowly tilted my head, staring at Camila. She had been acting strangely all day.
Really strangely.
"...You’re weird."
Camila blinked. "What’s weird?"
"You," I said quietly.
I folded my arms across my chest. "You’re acting weird."
I stared at her suspiciously. "Really weird."
Before she could reply, I reached over, took the paper bag from her hands, and hugged it protectively against my chest.
"I need this more."
Camila pouted dramatically. "Really?"
"Mmm. Really," I said, nodding.
She sighed. "So cruel."
I leaned forward across my desk, staring at her expression.
"Or..." I paused and looked at her even more suspiciously.
"Did you actually—"
