Falling For The True Heiress
Chapter 64: Thank You For Believing In My Stories...The applause from the trailer rolled through the convention center for what felt like forever.
I clapped along with everyone else, unable to stop smiling.
That trailer...
It was even better than I had imagined.
As the applause gradually faded, one by one, everyone around me settled back into their seats, though the excitement lingering in the hall hadn’t faded at all.
The master of ceremonies walked back to the center of the stage, a warm smile playing on his lips as he waited for the room to quiet down.
"Ladies and gentlemen..."
His voice echoed clearly throughout the convention center.
"For years, a single pen name has captured the hearts of millions of readers around the world."
The giant LED screen behind him lit up with a single word written in elegant silver letters.
SHADEDNIGHT
The audience erupted into applause once more.
I found myself clapping along with everyone else.
The MC smiled, waiting patiently before continuing.
"Her stories have made us laugh, cry, hope, and dream. They’ve sparked conversations, broken reading records, and united readers across continents."
He paused. "And yet..."
"The woman behind those extraordinary stories remained a mystery."
The screen changed. One headline appeared after another.
Who Is Shadednight?
The World’s Most Mysterious Bestselling Author.
No Interviews. No Public Appearances. No Photographs.
Soft laughter spread through the audience.
The MC chuckled.
"For years, countless readers searched for her."
"Journalists tried to interview her."
"Publishers respected her wish to remain anonymous."
"But today..."
He paused, letting the words sink in.
"...history is being made."
Without realizing it, I found myself sitting up straighter.
"I know many of you caught a brief glimpse
of someone arriving earlier this afternoon."
The image of the young woman surrounded by security instantly flashed through my mind.
"But surrounded by security, with cameras flashing from every direction, very few truly saw her."
I immediately remembered that familiar figure, but this time I’d finally get to see her clearly.
"So allow me..."
The MC stepped away from the podium.
"...to introduce her properly."
The lights dimmed once again.
The giant LED screen faded to black as a single spotlight illuminated the entrance at the side of the stage.
A soft orchestral melody drifted through the hall.
No one spoke.
I found myself staring at the entrance without blinking.
The anticipation was almost unbearable. Not just for me, but for everyone in the hall.
"Ladies and gentlemen..."
The MC’s voice broke the silence.
"It is my greatest honor and privilege..."
"...to present, for the very first time..."
He paused.
The music swelled.
"...the brilliant mind behind the global phenomenon Falling For The True Heiress..."
He paused again.
The spotlight grew brighter.
"...the author the world has known simply as..."
For a split second...
The entire hall seemed to stop breathing.
"Shadednight."
The convention center exploded with deafening applause.
Cheers erupted around me. People shot to their feet, waving copies of Falling For The True Heiress high above their heads.
"Shadednight!"
"Shadednight!"
"Shadednight!"
The chant spread through the hall until thousands of voices echoed together.
Camera flashes burst from every direction.
But I barely noticed.
My eyes never left the entrance.
Then...
The doors slowly opened.
A graceful figure stepped into the spotlight.
She stood there in a champagne off-shoulder satin gown that embraced her slender figure before flowing effortlessly to the floor.
The fitted bodice hugged her slim waist before cascading into a graceful floor-length skirt. The smooth satin shimmered beneath the lights with every step she took.
Her long hair, styled in soft half-up, half-down curls, rested elegantly over her shoulders.
She walked with a quiet confidence that held the entire hall spellbound.
My heart stopped.
No...
That couldn’t be...
I blinked. Then I rubbed my eyes, convinced I had to be imagining things.
When I looked again...
She was still there. Standing beneath the spotlight.
Sylvia.
My mind went completely blank.
It was really Sylvia.
It was really my...
Girlfriend.
"Lia."
Camila nudged my arm gently.
"Isn’t that Sylvia?" she whispered, her eyes widening. "Wait... don’t tell me Sylvia is the mysterious Shadednight."
I didn’t answer.
I couldn’t.
My eyes remained fixed on the woman standing beneath the spotlight.
Sylvia.
My Sylvia.
The author everyone in this room had been waiting years to see.
For a moment, my mind completely stopped working.
How could it be her?
How could the quiet, gentle woman I knew be the person who had created stories loved by millions of people around the world?
I was confused.
I was shocked.
But more than anything...
I felt proud.
Then my thoughts drifted back to all the little things I had noticed about Sylvia but never questioned.
The way she would suddenly become lost in her thoughts.
The way she could spend hours focused on something and forget everything around her.
The way her fingers were always moving across her phone, typing whenever inspiration seemed to strike.
I had always assumed she was replying to messages or handling something personal.
But now...
I finally understood.
That was probably how she created the stories that had touched so many hearts.
A small smile tugged at my lips.
I couldn’t believe my girlfriend had been carrying such a huge secret all this time.
Mom and Dad were going to be so happy when they found out their daughter was the mysterious author the whole world admired.
Camila was still staring at Sylvia on the stage before turning back to me.
"Lia..."
She shook her head in disbelief. "Your little sister is really a big shot."
I laughed softly, unable to take my eyes off Sylvia.
"I’m only just finding out myself."
Camila smiled before turning her attention back to the stage.
But I couldn’t look away.
Because the woman standing there wasn’t just Shadednight.
She was Sylvia.
The person I loved.
And somehow, discovering this new side of her only made me want to know her even more.
My eyes followed her every movement, as though I were seeing her for the very first time.
Sylvia stood there for a moment, composed yet radiant.
Then she took her first step toward the center of the stage.
The applause erupted again, even louder than before.
Camera flashes exploded from every direction, illuminating the hall like streaks of lightning.
Photographers hurried closer to the edge of the media platform, fingers pressing their shutters almost nonstop.
The giant LED screens projected her image throughout the convention center.
A collective gasp rippled through the audience.
"So beautiful..."
"She’s even younger than I imagined."
"I can’t believe that’s really Shadednight."
"She’s absolutely stunning."
Several invited authors exchanged surprised glances.
One publisher smiled in admiration.
"I understand now," he murmured. "No wonder she wanted to remain anonymous."
Sylvia walked gracefully across the stage, her every step calm and unhurried despite the thousands of eyes fixed on her.
When she reached the center, she paused.
She looked across the sea of faces before her.
Readers.
Writers.
Publishers.
Business leaders.
Celebrities.
Media representatives.
People who had traveled from different parts of the world simply to witness this moment.
A warm smile slowly spread across her face.
She placed one hand over her heart before giving the audience a gentle bow.
The simple gesture drew another wave of applause and cheers.
Many fans stood on tiptoe, trying to catch a better look.
Others raised their phones higher, recording every second of the historic moment.
The MC stepped forward with a smile.
"Ladies and gentlemen..."
He turned toward her.
"Please join me in welcoming the extraordinary author behind Falling For The True Heiress..."
He extended a hand toward her.
"...Shadednight."
The applause rose once more as she stepped up to the microphone, the entire convention center falling into eager anticipation, waiting to hear her speak for the very first time.
The MC stepped back, leaving the stage to her.
For the first time that day, the convention center fell completely silent.
Thousands of eyes watched her.
The cameras remained focused on her face.
The woman who had always hidden behind a name was finally standing before them.
Sylvia rested one hand lightly on the microphone.
For a moment, she simply looked at the sea of faces before her.
Thousands of people.
Thousands of readers.
Thousands of strangers who somehow knew her stories...
Without ever knowing her.
A small, almost nervous smile curved her lips.
"Hello, everyone."
Her gentle voice echoed through the convention center.
A wave of cheers swept through the audience before gradually fading again.
"My name is Sylvia Winston."
She paused, taking a slow breath.
"Though... I suppose most of you know me by a different name."
Soft laughter rippled through the hall.
Even Sylvia laughed quietly before continuing.
"Today, I’m standing here not only as Shadednight..."
"But as someone who has been incredibly fortunate."
Her gaze swept across the audience.
"Fortunate enough to have millions of readers choose my stories, Chapter after Chapter."
"Thank you for spending your time with my characters."
"For laughing with them..."
"For crying with them..."
"And for believing in them, even when they had stopped believing in themselves."
Her smile softened.
"For that..."
"Thank you."
The audience answered with warm applause.
Sylvia waited until it settled before speaking again.
"When I started writing, I never imagined I’d one day be standing on a stage like this."
"Back then, writing was simply my escape."
"It was the one place where I could be completely honest."
"A quiet place where every emotion I couldn’t say out loud found its way onto the page."
She glanced at the enormous book cover glowing behind her.
"Then, somewhere along the way..."
"Those stories stopped belonging only to me."
"They became yours too."
Her eyes sparkled beneath the stage lights.
"Falling For The True Heiress began as a simple idea."
"A story about identity."
"About family."
"About love."
"And about finding where you truly belong."
She smiled warmly.
"I never imagined that story would find a home in the hearts of so many people around the world."
"Stories have a beautiful way of bringing strangers together."
"Looking at all of you today..."
"I think this story found exactly where it was meant to belong."
"So, from the bottom of my heart..."
"Thank you."
She paused, her smile growing a little brighter.
"Thank you for believing in my stories..."
"Long before you ever knew the person who wrote them."
