Falling For The True Heiress

Chapter 79: You Can Only Be Mine...

Sylvia got to her feet and walked over to me.

"Let’s go," she said, smiling.

I nodded.

We waved goodbye to Mom and Dad before making our way toward the door. Sylvia reached for the doorknob and pulled it open. We stepped into the hallway, and she quietly closed the door behind us.

The corridor was calm. The soft hum of the air conditioner mixed with the distant beeping of heart monitors, while the clean scent of antiseptic lingered in the air.

The soft footsteps of nurses echoed in the distance as a trolley rolled past somewhere down the hall.

Sylvia leaned closer until our shoulders almost brushed.

"Babe," she called softly.

"Mmm?" I looked down at her.

She lifted both arms toward me with the cutest little pout.

"I need a hug."

I smiled to myself.

Instead of giving her one, I reached over and gently flicked her forehead.

"Ow."

She immediately covered her forehead and leaned away, pouting even harder.

"Babe."

I couldn’t help laughing. "You’re so dramatic."

"I am not."

She rubbed her forehead one more time before looking at me again.

"I just wanted a hug."

"I know."

"And you flicked me instead."

"I did."

She sighed dramatically, making me laugh even harder.

I shook my head, still smiling as we continued walking.

"Drama queen."

She puffed out her cheeks but didn’t argue.

I took another step before suddenly stopping.

The old woman.

I had completely forgotten about her.

I turned to Sylvia. "Let’s go check on someone."

She looked at me for a second before nodding.

"Okay."

We turned into another hallway.

Room 120 wasn’t far from Dad’s room. As we approached the door, memories of our first meeting with the old woman flashed through my mind, and I couldn’t help smiling.

When we finally stopped outside the room, I lifted my hand and knocked.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

"Come in," a familiar voice called from inside.

I slowly pushed the door open and peeked my head into the room.

"My daughter... is that you?"

A smile immediately spread across my face.

"Nana."

I stepped inside, and Sylvia followed quietly behind me.

"Good evening, Ma," Sylvia greeted with a polite smile.

The old woman’s eyes moved from me to Sylvia, and her smile instantly widened.

"Oh?"

"So you’ve brought someone with you today."

I smiled and glanced at Sylvia.

"That’s my—"

The words got stuck in my throat.

Sister?

Would Sylvia be upset if I introduced her like that?

Girlfriend?

What would Nana think?

I was still arguing with myself when the old woman laughed softly.

"Oh, I see." The smile on her face grew even warmer.

"So that’s how it is."

She looked at Sylvia and waved her over.

"Come here, dear."

I blinked. "Nana..."

I laughed, rubbing the back of my neck.

"You figured it out that fast?"

She only smiled. "I may be old, but my eyes still work just fine."

Sylvia couldn’t help laughing as she walked over to the bed.

"Nana," I said, suddenly remembering something. "Weren’t you discharged already?"

"I was," she said quietly. "Yesterday."

My brows furrowed. "Then... why are you still here?"

She looked at me with gentle eyes. "I wanted to see you before I left."

I stared at her. "You stayed because of me?"

She nodded without hesitation.

"What if I hadn’t come today?" I asked, genuinely surprised.

"I would’ve waited."

Her answer came so naturally that it made my chest tighten.

I laughed softly, shaking my head. "You really would’ve done that?"

"I would’ve." She smiled. "Some people only come into your life for a moment, but they leave a mark that lasts much longer."

She reached over and gently patted my hand. "You were kind to an old woman you didn’t even know."

"How could I leave without seeing you one more time?"

My heart warmed. I smiled back at her.

"Well..."

I spread my hands with a small laugh. "I’m here now."

"Dominic didn’t come by today."

The moment the words left my mouth, the old woman’s eyes lit up with amusement.

"Oh?" A teasing smile tugged at the corners of her lips. "Already missing him?"

"Nana."

I let out a helpless laugh and quickly shook my head.

"That’s not what I meant."

Without thinking, my eyes drifted toward Sylvia. She was already looking at me.

I swallowed.

She wasn’t saying anything, but I could feel her gaze fixed on me. I blinked a few times, silently hoping she’d understand that the old woman had gotten the wrong idea.

The old woman laughed to herself. "You young people are always trying to hide things from us old folks."

I sighed dramatically. "Nana, I was only wondering why no one was here with you. That’s all."

She looked at me for a second before waving her hand dismissively.

"Fine, fine. If you say so."

She was still smiling, clearly enjoying my embarrassment. The smile on her face told me she didn’t believe a single word I had just said.

I looked back at Sylvia. She was still staring at me.

I rubbed the back of my neck.

Yeah...

I was definitely getting punished later.

I cleared my throat and forced a smile.

"Nana, we should get going."

"So soon?"

She reached for the phone on the bedside table. "Then at least leave me your phone number."

I instinctively looked at Sylvia, silently asking for permission.

She caught my glance...

...and deliberately looked away.

I almost laughed.

That definitely wasn’t a good sign. Still, I couldn’t refuse Nana.

I walked over to the bed, took the phone from her hand, and quickly typed in my number.

Then I called my own phone. A second later, it vibrated in my pocket. I ended the call and handed the phone back to her.

"There." I handed the phone back to her with a smile.

"You can save it now."

She smiled as she looked down at the screen. "I’ll save it right away."

I smiled back.

"Okay."

She looked up at me again, her eyes warm and gentle.

"Now I can call my daughter whenever I miss her."

My heart softened.

"Anytime, Nana."

"Alright. Bye, Nana," I said, giving her one last wave.

She looked up from her phone and smiled warmly before waving back.

"Bye, my daughter."

"Bye, ma," Sylvia said with a small smile.

The old woman’s eyes crinkled with affection.

"Bye, my second daughter. Drive safely."

"We will," I replied.

With one last smile, I turned toward the door.

Sylvia reached it first, pulled it open, and stepped outside. I followed behind her, quietly closing the door.

The hallway was peaceful, lit by soft ceiling lights that reflected off the polished floor.

I was about to say something when Sylvia suddenly walked ahead without waiting for me.

"Babe?"

She didn’t answer. Instead, she kept walking fast.

I frowned and hurried after her.

"Hey..."

She walked over to the corner toward the staircase without even looking back.

I blinked.

Was she... upset?

A smile tugged at my lips. She was definitely upset.

I quickened my pace. "Sylvia!"

She was already halfway down the stairs.

I laughed under my breath and hurried after her, my footsteps echoing through the stairwell.

"Slow down!"

She ignored me completely.

By the time I reached the last stairs, she had already made it to the ground floor.

"Seriously..."

I couldn’t help laughing as I jogged after her.

The automatic doors slid open with a soft whoosh the moment she reached the exit, and she disappeared outside.

A few seconds later, I pushed through the doors myself.

The cool evening breeze hit my face immediately, carrying the faint scent of rain and freshly watered flowers.

I spotted Sylvia leaning against my car with her arms folded across her chest.

She looked perfectly calm. As if she hadn’t just made me chase her through half the hospital.

I finally reached her, slightly out of breath.

"Haa..."

I looked up at her. "Babe..."

I placed a hand against my chest, trying to steady my breathing.

"What was that?"

She pushed herself away from the car and looked at me quietly. Then she let out a slow breath of her own.

Without saying a word, she reached for my wrist.

"Babe?"

She gently tugged me with her.

We walked around to the back of the car, where the dim light from the parking lot barely reached.

The shadows wrapped around us, hiding us from the people walking in and out of the hospital.

I looked at her, confused. "Babe..."

She slowly turned to face me.

"What’s wrong?"

"You really have no idea what you do to me, do you?"

I blinked. "What?"

She let out a quiet breath and stepped closer until only a few inches separated us.

"Seeing someone matchmaking my girlfriend with someone else..."

She reached up and gently tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

"...I don’t like it."

I couldn’t help smiling. "Were you jealous?"

She didn’t answer. Instead, she cupped my face with one hand and leaned in, her lips softly meeting mine before deepening the kiss. The warmth of her touch sent a shiver down my spine.

My eyes fluttered shut as I melted into her, instinctively reaching for her waist.

The kiss deepened for a moment before she slowly pulled away, our foreheads resting together.

"You can only be mine," she whispered, her voice low, filled with tenderness and possession.

My heart skipped a beat.

She smiled faintly before her lips trailed slowly to the corner of my mouth to my jaw, leaving featherlight kisses along my skin until they reached the side of my neck.

She slowed down there for a moment before pressing a lingering kiss there. Her teeth slowly grazed the sensitive skin down there, sending chills through my body.

The sensation was a blend of pleasure and surprise.

A quiet gasp escaped my lips.

"Ahhhh, mmmphh," I breathed, feeling the world melt away.

"Babe," I murmured, lost in the moment.

She smiled against my skin.

"Now everyone will know you’re mine."
