"Kelsey..." Venny said slowly.

"Hey, bro." Vastin immediately smiled when he saw Kelsey. "You actually came."

"Of course." Kelsey smiled as he walked farther into the room. He turned toward Mr. and Mrs. Ashford and bowed politely.

"Good afternoon, ma’am, sir."

Mrs. Ashford smiled warmly. "Good afternoon, dear."

She turned toward her husband. "Let’s go upstairs."

Mr. Ashford nodded and stood up. The two of them walked up the staircase and disappeared into the hallway.

"Hey, Aldorin." Kelsey greeted him as soon as their eyes met.

Aldorin nodded with a smile and waved at him.

"Hey, little sis." Kelsey turned toward Sylvia and waved.

"Hey, big bro." Sylvia smiled and waved back.

Kelsey sat down before turning his attention to Venny. "Come sit over here."

Venny rolled his eyes and looked away.

"Why do I always have to listen to him?" he muttered under his breath.

"I actually heard that." Kelsey said calmly.

Vastin let out a quiet laugh.

"Hey, bro. I thought you were busy at the company with those projects you told me about?" Vastin asked, frowning slightly.

Kelsey didn’t take his eyes off Venny. "I think I came because someone was missing me."

"Hey, big bro. I know the person you’re talking about isn’t Vastin." Cleric said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

Kelsey only shrugged, still watching Venny.

Sylvia looked between the two of them before clearing her throat. "I think this room is getting a little too romantically intense, and I’m not happy about it because my babe isn’t here."

She turned toward Venny with a teasing smile. "Looks like love finally came knocking on your door."

"Hey, cut the crap, little sis." Venny frowned, already knowing exactly what she was implying.

He snorted and crossed his arms. "I don’t want that kind of love. I’d rather live, survive, and die single."

"Let’s see about that." Kelsey said, his eyes still fixed on Venny.

Venny glanced at him but quickly looked away.

Sylvia smiled to herself and turned toward the door. She had barely taken a step when she stopped, turned back, and looked at Venny.

"I hope you have a happy relationship this time."

Her eyes shifted toward Kelsey before she smiled and walked away.

"Little sis, wai—"

Before Venny could finish, Kelsey reached out, grabbed his arm, and pulled him down beside him.

Sylvia walked out of the mansion, but before heading to her car, she stopped and glanced back at the large building behind her.

A small smile touched her lips.

"I’m sorry for not staying longer, but I have to go find someone." She whispered to herself.

She turned around and walked toward her car.

She took out her key fob and pressed the button.

Beep.

Beep.

The headlights flashed.

Sylvia walked to the driver’s side, pulled the door open, and slid into the seat.

She started the engine, and the quiet hum of the car filled the air.

She was just about to pull out when Cleric walked out of the mansion.

"I’ll open the gate for you." He said, raising the remote in his hand before pressing the button.

The gate slowly began to open.

Sylvia rolled down her window and waved at him.

Cleric smiled and waved back. "I’ll call you later."

Sylvia nodded. "Okay."

She rolled up her window, shifted the car into gear, and slowly drove out through the open gate.

The mansion slowly disappeared from Sylvia’s rearview mirror as she drove down the quiet street.

After a few hours, Sylvia finally drove into her mansion’s driveway.

The tires rolled smoothly over the paved driveway before she guided the car toward the parking lot. The familiar sight of the mansion came into view, its tall windows reflecting the fading afternoon light.

She parked the car and switched off the engine.

The sudden silence inside the vehicle made the faint ticking of the cooling engine noticeable.

Sylvia pushed the door open and stepped out. A warm breeze brushed against her face, carrying the faint scent of the flowers planted along the driveway.

She closed the car door and locked it before walking toward the mansion.

When she reached the front door, she pushed it open and stepped inside.

The familiar coolness of the air-conditioned mansion greeted her.

She took only a few steps before stopping.

Someone was sitting on the single sofa in the living room.

A girl.

She was casually scrolling through her phone, her attention fixed on the screen.

It wasn’t Amelia.

Sylvia’s eyebrows drew together. She hadn’t been expecting anyone.

She slowly walked farther into the living room, her eyes remaining on the unfamiliar girl.

The girl seemed to notice her presence and immediately looked up.

The moment their eyes met, the girl’s face brightened.

She stood up quickly, a wide smile spreading across her lips.

She was average in height, with long, straight red hair falling neatly over her shoulders. Her delicate features made her look soft and attractive, while the confident way she carried herself showed that she was comfortable with her appearance.

She was beautiful. There was no denying that.

Sylvia noticed it the moment she looked at her.

But it didn’t make her feel anything.

To Sylvia, she was just a stranger standing in her living room. Her appearance meant nothing at all to her.

The girl suddenly rushed toward her. Sylvia instinctively stepped to the side.

The girl missed her completely and stumbled forward, catching herself before she could fall.

She turned around in confusion.

Sylvia stared at her for a moment before looking away.

"Sorry." She said calmly.

Her gaze returned to the girl, slowly looking her over.

"I don’t like being touched by others. It irritates me a bit."

"What?"

The girl looked down at herself, checking her clothes and arms as though she might somehow find the thing that had irritated Sylvia.

Sylvia almost sighed. "Who are you?"

"I’m Janina." The girl answered with a small smile.

Sylvia frowned. She didn’t say anything, but the question was obvious in her expression.

Janina quickly understood.

"Ohhh." She gave a small laugh. "I’m your cousin."

"Cousin?"

Before Janina could explain further, footsteps sounded from the hallway.

Mrs. Chloe appeared. She immediately noticed the two of them standing in the middle of the living room.

She walked over and bowed respectfully.

"Second Miss, this is Miss Janina. She’s the master’s elder brother’s adopted daughter."

Sylvia nodded slowly. "Okay."

Janina smiled and extended her hand. "Nice to meet you."

Sylvia’s eyes dropped to the offered hand.

She stared at it for a second, and then she looked back at Janina.

Janina immediately remembered Sylvia’s earlier words, and her smile disappeared immediately.

She quickly pulled her hand back.

"Right. Sorry."

Mrs. Chloe watched the exchange quietly.

Something about it surprised her.

She knew Sylvia well enough to know that she wasn’t usually this distant.

Around Amelia, Sylvia was almost an entirely different person.

She smiled more and laughed more. She allowed Amelia to cling to her without complaint.

But with Janina, there was a clear distance between them.

Mrs. Chloe lowered her gaze, hiding the small smile that appeared on her face.

Sylvia didn’t seem interested in continuing the conversation. She simply shrugged and turned toward the staircase.

She climbed the stairs without looking back.

A few seconds later, she disappeared into the hallway.

Janina’s eyes followed her the entire time.

She didn’t even blink until Sylvia vanished from her sight.

A slow smile appeared on her lips. Then she turned toward Mrs. Chloe.

"Is she always like this?"

Mrs. Chloe looked at her. "Not really. Maybe it’s because she just met you."

Janina hummed softly. Her eyes drifted back toward the empty staircase.

"She looks cute."

Mrs. Chloe’s eyebrows lifted. "What did you say, Miss?"

Janina blinked. She immediately realized that she had said it out loud.

She quickly cleared her throat. "Nothing."

She straightened herself and turned to Mrs. Chloe. "You can go back."

Mrs. Chloe stared at her for a moment before she nodded.

"Yes, Miss."

She turned and walked away. After taking a few steps, she stopped.

Something about Janina’s expression bothered her.

Mrs. Chloe slowly glanced back.

Janina was still standing in the living room, staring at the staircase.

There was something strange in her smile.

What does she mean by that?

She frowned.

I actually don’t trust her.

Mrs. Chloe shook her head and continued walking.

Janina remained where she was. She pressed her lips together, her eyes still fixed on the staircase.

A small smile returned to her face.

"I already love her." She whispered to herself.

She lowered her gaze, almost as if she were sharing a secret with herself.

"I will make you fall for me, Sylvia."

She turned and walked back to the sofa before sitting down.

The moment she settled into the seat, her thoughts immediately returned to Amelia.

Janina had never liked her.

She hated the fact that Amelia was part of the Winston family, even after the biological daughter of the Winston family had returned.

Janina wanted everything the family had for herself—their wealth, their name, their power, and everything that came with it.

As long as Amelia remained in the family, she knew she could never have everything she wanted.

Her fingers tightened around her phone.

"And that bitch..." she whispered, her eyes narrowing.

"As long as I’m here, I’ll make sure she vanishes from this house."
