Not far away, Serena stood hidden among the gathering crowd.

Her usually gentle smile had long since frozen.

She stared at Damien as though she were looking at an entirely different person.

Impossible...

How was this possible?

The breathtakingly handsome man before her was actually the filthy black bear beastman from yesterday?

Her fingers unconsciously tightened around the basket she was carrying.

Yesterday, his tangled hair had completely hidden his features. Dirt had covered every inch of exposed skin, and the awful smell surrounding him had driven everyone away before they even bothered taking a second glance.

She hadn’t looked carefully.

No...

She hadn’t wanted to.

Now she regretted it.

If she had realized he looked like this after cleaning himself...

She would never have treated him so indifferently yesterday.

A trace of jealousy flashed through her eyes.

What a waste.

If she had shown him kindness first, perhaps he would have remembered her instead of following Kaelira everywhere.

Still...

Serena quickly calmed herself.

His appearance wasn’t entirely bad news.

In fact...

The more handsome Damien was...

...the better.

A faint smile slowly curved her lips.

The five beast husbands would surely misunderstand.

Who would believe Kaelira had innocently accepted such an attractive childhood fiancé into the tribe?

Sooner or later they would conclude she was fickle and insatiable.

One handsome beastman after another.

Even if Kaelira denied it, suspicion would eventually take root.

And once distrust appeared...

Relationships would naturally crumble.

When the time came...

She would comfort the five abandoned beast husbands one by one.

As for Damien...

Such an exceptionally handsome beastman naturally deserved someone far more beautiful than Sora.

Her eyes gleamed thoughtfully.

Unfortunately...

That person happened to be standing right here.

Completely unaware of Serena’s schemes, Sora had already reached the limit of her patience.

Sweat clung to her neck after her morning jog and yoga practice.

The sticky feeling made her increasingly uncomfortable.

If these curious villagers kept surrounding her with endless questions, she’d smell terrible before breakfast even started.

She rubbed her forehead.

"I need to wash first."

Turning toward Damien, she pointed toward the outdoor dining area they had used the previous evening.

"Wait for me where we had dinner yesterday."

"I’ll be back shortly."

Damien obediently nodded.

"Okay."

Without another word, he walked exactly where she had instructed.

Watching his retreating figure, Sora finally breathed a sigh of relief before hurrying back toward her small wooden cabin to collect clean clothes.

The outdoor dining area had gradually become one of the most attractive places in the tribe.

Unlike the rough stone circles most families used for meals, Sora had carefully arranged everything.

A large round wooden table stood in the center.

Several sturdy chairs surrounded it.

Clay stoves, shelves, and neatly stacked pottery filled one side.

The enormous water jar they had made yesterday stood proudly beside the kitchen.

On the table rested a small ceramic vase.

Inside bloomed several freshly picked purple wildflowers.

The simple decoration instantly softened the rustic surroundings, making the place feel surprisingly warm.

Damien looked around curiously.

"So this is where Kaelira eats every day..."

A smile unconsciously spread across his face.

He chose a chair without hesitation and quietly waited.

Not long afterward...

Ryan, Xavier, Ace, Lucas, and Lukan arrived together.

The moment they saw Damien comfortably sitting at the table...

All five paused.

Lucas blinked.

"You’re here already?"

Damien smiled brightly.

"Kaelira told me to wait."

"..."

Lucas suddenly felt rather complicated.

This newcomer certainly adapted quickly.

He hadn’t helped with anything yet...

Yet he had somehow secured breakfast.

Lucas secretly complained inside.

Females really did like people who knew how to sweet-talk.

Of course...

He only dared think such things.

After yesterday’s experience, he no longer dared complain aloud.

Especially since he hadn’t even started today’s work.

He lacked confidence.

Meanwhile, inside the kitchen...

Sora was already busy preparing breakfast.

She had risen early enough to knead fresh cornmeal dough.

After letting it rest, she wrapped fragrant fillings inside each bun.

The stuffing consisted of freshly gathered shepherd’s purse mixed with finely chopped meat seasoned with salt, wild onion, and rendered animal fat.

Once steamed inside the clay pot...

The buns became fluffy and soft.

Steam escaped as she lifted the lid.

The warm fragrance immediately drifted across the courtyard.

Even before breakfast was served...

Several stomachs growled almost simultaneously.

Ace laughed awkwardly.

"I swear your food smells better every single day."

Sora smiled.

"Then eat more."

She quickly divided the buns into wooden bowls before carrying them outside.

Everyone instinctively reached for their portions.

Damien picked one up first.

The bun was warm against his fingers.

Curious, he tore it open.

The steaming filling released an irresistible aroma.

His eyes widened.

He cautiously took a bite.

The fluffy cornmeal wrapper blended perfectly with the juicy meat and fresh vegetables.

The natural sweetness of the corn balanced the savory filling beautifully.

For several seconds...

Damien simply froze.

Then his entire face lit up.

"This is delicious!"

"I’ve never eaten anything this good before!"

His voice was so sincere that everyone looked over.

Ryan smiled faintly.

Xavier simply continued eating.

Lucas chuckled knowingly.

Ace leaned back lazily.

"That was exactly my reaction the first time."

Lukan nodded.

"You’ll get used to it."

Damien looked shocked.

"You mean Kaelira cooks like this every day?"

Ace laughed.

"More or less."

Damien immediately grabbed another bun.

"Kaelira..."

"You’re incredible."

Sora smiled helplessly.

"It’s only breakfast."

"If you like it, eat more."

He nodded enthusiastically.

"I definitely will."

The others exchanged amused looks.

His exaggerated reactions reminded them of themselves during those first few meals.

Back then...

They too had stared at Sora in disbelief after tasting her cooking.

Eventually, however...

Extraordinary had gradually become ordinary.

Not because the food had become less delicious.

Simply because they had become accustomed to her astonishing cooking skills.

As Damien happily devoured his second bun, Ace suddenly frowned.

Something occurred to him.

He looked toward Damien.

"I have a question."

Damien swallowed.

"What is it?"

"I thought Kaelira learned cooking from her adoptive mother."

"You grew up with them, didn’t you?"

"So..."

Ace tilted his head.

"How have you never tasted these buns before?"

The question landed like a stone dropped into still water.

Sora nearly choked.

Her heart skipped a beat.

Oh no.

She had forgotten.

Every remarkable thing she had introduced to the tribe had always been explained the same way.

"My adoptive mother taught me."

Now Damien—the only person who actually knew that mysterious foster mother—was sitting right beside her.

If he denied everything...

Every excuse she had ever made would instantly collapse.

She secretly held her breath.

Damien blinked.

"This..."

Before he could continue—

Sora interrupted smoothly.

"I only invented these recently."

Everyone looked toward her.

She maintained a perfectly calm smile.

"My adoptive mother never made this kind of bun."

Ace looked surprised.

"You invented it yourself?"

Sora nodded naturally.

"Yes."

"I’ve been experimenting lately."

"I just happened to succeed."

Ace stared at the bun in his hand with newfound admiration.

"I always assumed every delicious dish came from your adoptive mother."

"I didn’t realize you could create recipes yourself."

Sora raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean by that?"

"A lot of what I cook now is my own invention."

Ace immediately realized he’d spoken carelessly.

He laughed awkwardly.

"No, no."

"That’s not what I meant."

"I meant you’re amazing."

"You can actually invent dishes this delicious."

"If anyone else experimented..."

"They’d probably poison themselves."

Everyone burst into laughter.

Even Ryan’s lips curved slightly.

The awkward atmosphere instantly disappeared.

Damien quietly watched Sora from across the table before smiling warmly.

"I agree."

"The first time I tasted Kaelira’s cooking, I thought it was wonderful."

He looked directly at everyone.

"She’s improved far beyond what I remember."

Sora finally released the breath she had been holding.

That had been close.

Far too close.

Thankfully Damien hadn’t contradicted her.

Otherwise...

She would have spent the rest of the morning desperately trying to explain where all her mysterious knowledge had come from.

For the first time since Damien had appeared...

She felt that perhaps this overly honest childhood fiancé wasn’t quite as troublesome as she’d originally feared.
