Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2580: Reaching for Cigarettes in the DrawerWill Caddel tidied Jasmine Yale’s clothes, then picked up her bag: "Let’s go, time for the meeting."
"Hmm!"
Jasmine Yale felt no waves in her heart, perhaps she’d grown accustomed to it. She lamented how someone on the verge of becoming a mother could act so unkindly, throwing tantrums, losing her temper, and speaking impulsively in front of her child. Didn’t she realize the child would be influenced by what they see and hear?
Exiting the teahouse, Will Caddel led her to the parking lot.
"Tomorrow I’ll take you to a different teahouse, the taste is good too, but it’s Chinese-style. You can’t choose."
"No problem, Chinese-style also offers many types of tea to consider, right?"
"That’s true."
Will Caddel drove personally, with Jasmine Yale sitting in the passenger seat.
Today’s sunlight was bright and vivid, streaming through the glass, refracting in a kaleidoscope of colors, vibrant like dancing sprites.
In the late summer season, the leaves were lush, and the air was filled with a refreshing scent.
Jasmine Yale had the window open, the air playing with her long hair, as her hand gently caressed her black locks.
Will Caddel didn’t ask anything, nor did he pay attention to Erin Janus’s nonsensical words. While driving, he would chat with Jasmine Yale about today’s schedule.
Sometimes, Jasmine Yale would open a folder and read the important items aloud to him.
Her voice was pleasant, and sometimes Will Caddel seemed to listen not for the content, but just for the sound of her voice, a slight smile at the corners of his lips.
"Today’s meeting is until one o’clock. If you’re hungry, remember to let me know," Will Caddel said.
"It should be fine. I ate quite a bit just now."
"How’s your appetite?"
"It’s good, I’m not picky and I can eat."
Will Caddel laughed, "A good appetite is a blessing. Never neglect yourself, no matter what."
"Hmm, I understand that principle. You too, CEO Caddel, no matter how busy work gets, don’t neglect yourself. And drink less alcohol, otherwise your stomach might feel uncomfortable."
"You’re right, I had a period where my stomach hurt, and I couldn’t sleep the whole night. Now I’m careful, and I generally don’t get drunk. By the way, the hangover tea you gave me works well; it has a calming effect."
"It’s brewed from a secret recipe, very effective."
Will Caddel smiled slightly, "Yes, very effective."
"CEO Caddel, did you sleep well last night?"
"Pretty well, I didn’t drink yesterday, and there wasn’t much work, so I went to sleep as soon as I got back."
"Oh, oh."
Jasmine Yale rested her head, gazing out the window.
Last night, when she woke up, she drank a bit of wine. They say a little red wine can aid sleep, but she nearly had insomnia the whole night.
Unable to sleep, she simply sat alone on the carpet, looking out at the nighttime city through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The city that never sleeps, still beautiful even at such late hours, was filled with a sense of modern fashion.
Her laptop was on her lap, with wine on her right and work notes on her left. When work tired her, she’d look outside; although she didn’t sleep the entire night, her heart remained especially calm.
Several times during the night, when she hit a bottleneck with work, she reached for the cigarettes in the drawer.
But in the end, she didn’t smoke.
Firstly, she was afraid of getting addicted, and secondly, she didn’t have a lighter.
Last night she took care of quite a bit of work, clearing out the backlog of projects.
Sometimes she was surprised to realize that what once seemed complex and perplexing was now resolved smoothly.
What used to give her a headache with numbers no longer did.
