The construction site was filled with ruins, and fireflies danced in the sky, beautiful and stirring.
This was originally a secluded open field, but it became enchanting because of the fireflies, full of vitality.
Occasionally, the sound of machines could be heard on the site, but only the sound of the wind remained in Sylvan Cheney’s ears, sometimes, fireflies would brush past his ears.
He wandered around the open field at will.
Sometimes, those fireflies would follow him.
The night wind was very cold, but Sylvan Cheney’s heart was warmed by these little creatures, with a slight upward curve on his lips.
He walked aimlessly.
If a pebble blocked his path, he would kick it aside.
The moonlit night was extremely beautiful.
He sat on a stone, watching the bright moon and clouds in the sky, watching the dancing fireflies, his solitary silhouette fell on the stone and ground, lonely and serene.
He sat for a long time, maintaining the same posture.
Time was precious to him, but at the moment, he didn’t feel it was precious.
He took out a pack of cigarettes from his suit pocket, drew one out, and lit it.
Smoke lingered around his face, and his sharply defined features were hidden in the fog.
He smoked one cigarette, then another, then a third...
There weren’t many cigarettes in the box to begin with, and it wasn’t long before he finished them. Sylvan rattled the empty box, smiled wryly, raised his hand, and tossed it into the distance.
He sat on a large stone, with no idea when he would return.
The view was wide open, the open field connected to the sky, looking far away, seeing no end...
"President." The project manager walked over, bent over, cautiously said, "We’re almost done for the day, if it rains tomorrow, there won’t be a way to work, we’ll need to rest for a day."
"Is it going to rain tomorrow?" Sylvan Cheney turned his head.
"The weather forecast says there might be rain, but it’s uncertain."
"Oh, alright."
"President, would you like to inspect around? I’ll accompany you." The project manager didn’t know why Sylvan Cheney was here; he had never come to the site at night before, usually only during the day.
But since Sylvan Cheney was here, he had to accompany him.
"Alright." Sylvan Cheney stood up.
They walked side by side through the construction site, the project manager introduced the construction progress, procedures, starting points, issues, and approval details.
Sylvan Cheney listened attentively, occasionally offering a few pointers.
They walked along, listening to the "buzz" of the machines.
Suddenly, a wooden board fell unsteadily from high above with the bricks!
"President, watch out!" The project manager reacted quickly, grabbing Sylvan Cheney’s hand and pushing him away!
Sylvan Cheney frowned.
Even so, his wrist was still cut by the sharp wooden board, bleeding profusely.
"President, the construction site is quite dangerous, especially at night, you can’t see anything clearly. Let’s leave first and come back tomorrow." The project manager hurriedly went to look for bandages.
The construction site was not lacking in medical supplies.
Sylvan Cheney lowered his head, covering the wound.
The blood continued to flow, staining his sleeve red.
"Fortunately, it was just a wooden board." The project manager sighed in relief, "President, I’m sorry, it’s my fault for not supervising properly. It’s too dark here at night, you can’t see anything."
"Just a simple treatment, I’ll go to the hospital."
"Okay, okay, shall I drive you?"
