Gigi:

I watched Ragnar reach the kitchen, and something inside me flipped. I just had this urge to to go after him.

So I did.

I sped after him, avoiding everyone. I even bumped into Mr. Bundy, almost knocking the wine glass out of his hand.

"Oh, it’s okay, I guess," he replied, possibly expecting me to apologize, when he should have been the one watching where I was going and clearing the way for me because I was the queen of the mansion.

But I ignored him for now.

As soon as I reached Ragnar, I placed my hand on his shoulder. He only had one foot inside the kitchen.

"I think it’s a woman problem. I think I understand. I think I should take care of her," I said to him.

He turned around, looked at me, and then glanced inside at Verity.

I saw her standing behind the counter, her hands planted on it. However, she didn’t look fine, just a little flushed.

"Guys, I’m okay. I’m completely fine," she said, straightening her back and running her hand over her dress, trying to smooth it.

"Are you sure?" I asked her from outside, and she gave me a thumbs-up.

"I think we should give her a moment," I said to Ragnar, who frowned at me.

"I think she is fixing her dress." I tried to explain to Ragnar that she wasn’t having a stomach ache.

Maybe something had gotten messed up with her gown, and she was just trying to fix it.

"Yeah, that is it. I’m kind of fixing my dress. If you guys could excuse me."

Verity finally spoke up for herself, and thankfully, Ragnar didn’t have to question why I didn’t want to help her.

"See?" I said to Ragnar.

Ragnar gave me a nod and walked away. I gave Verity a smile and followed after him.

Halfway back, the bitch who had completely ignored me decided she would suddenly remember I existed.

"Gigi."

Jenna’s soft, gentle voice caused my jaw to clench.

I didn’t slow down, so she kept coming after me.

"Gigi," she called again.

I ignored her, continuing after Ragnar toward our table, but Ragnar was the one who stopped, turned around, and looked over my shoulder.

"I think she’s calling for you," he said, causing me to mentally curse myself.

"Who?" I asked, pretending not to hear Jenna.

"Jenna." Ragnar said her name, pointing behind me at her.

I acted as though I had been so lost in thought that I hadn’t even noticed her.

I turned around and gave her a smile before excusing myself from Ragnar and walking over to Jenna.

"What is it, Jenna?" I asked her directly, folding my arms across my chest.

"I need to speak with you," Jenna said in a very low, dramatic voice.

"Okay, speak," I said.

She had already spoiled my mood. I didn’t know what else she wanted to spoil.

"I need your help, Gigi," she uttered, causing my spine to straighten once more.

Had my brother not warned her not to speak about it with anyone?

Why the fuck was she coming to me all the time.

Could that mean she was also going around asking others for help?

"What kind of trouble?" I questioned, my mood souring at the fact that she had come to speak with me.

"I wanted–" She paused, looking confused by the way I was responding to her. "Did I anger you somehow? You seem pretty distant. You don’t answer my calls. You don’t talk to me."

Now that she needed something from me, she was suddenly all nice.

She hadn’t been nice enough when she didn’t feed me the cake.

"Jenna, I’ll be very honest with you. The women I hang around with are very decent women. Not that I’m calling you indecent."

There it was, my time to shine.

Time to remind her why there was such a big difference between her and me.

Her lips immediately started to curl downward, and I knew why.

She was already dealing with this blackmailer, who was possibly making her feel terrible about herself.

So when I reminded her of it, she was definitely feeling it twice as much.

"But the way you do things, your actions... Like when I took you out to that masquerade party and you walked away with some stranger. The way you sneak in and sneak out. I just don’t know. I’m noticing everything, and Jenna, I’m not a woman of that caliber," I said, watching her eyes start to fill with tears.

"Please don’t overreact, but I don’t like whores."

The way I said it made her gasp and cover her mouth before she quickly lowered her hand, looked around, and tried to discreetly wipe away her tears.

She didn’t want anyone to hear the truth.

She couldn’t even defend herself.

"You told me there was a man in the woods or something. Remember? You were saying some stuff like that. Did he do something to you?" I asked her.

She just watched me.

I could tell she was holding back hiccups and whimpers, trying not to cry.

"Because if he did, then I don’t know, Jenna. You’re just— I’m sorry, but this is not how royals act. Our women, we don’t walk around spreading our legs. I’m really sorry. I cannot be with a woman like you. I’m a very decent woman," I said as I placed a hand on my chest, feeling so fulfilled for putting her in her place.

I’d been waiting to say all these things to her face.

"But I’m not a whore."

She couldn’t even say the words out loud. She couldn’t defend herself.

Such a pathetic excuse for a woman.

"You can say all you want, but I cannot respect someone who has no respect for herself. Now please, if you’ll excuse me," I said, rolling my eyes and walking past her.

I purposely even bumped my shoulder against hers.

Leaving her there while she couldn’t even cry or go hide somewhere to shed her tears felt so fulfilling.
